Understanding Your F-150’s Output Speed Sensor. The Automatic Transmission Output Speed Sensor is an integral component of your F-150’s transmission functionality. This sensor mounts towards the rear, driver’s side of the transmission case before the tail shaft and measures the output speed of the transmission’s internals so the PCM can configure the transmission’s shifting schedule, ensuring crisp and precise gear changes at the appropriate RPMs.
