Hey guys, it's Sara with americantrucks.com. And today we have a review and install of the G2 LED tail lights in red fitting your '09 to '14 F-150 styleside models. This is perfect for the F-150 owner who's looking to upgrade their tail lights to an LED tail light and wants a style upgrade as well with the LED accents and all red housings, giving your truck a more modern look. These red LED tail lights provide better visibility thanks to the ultra bright LEDs and they will outlast your factory halogen bulbs. So these tail lights are constructed from red polycarbonate lenses with black housings, keeping some of the OE styling but upgrading the design. They feature waterproof construction and are DOT approved, meaning they are legal for on-road use. So as far as price goes, these come in at around $300 which is middle of the road price-wise when compared to other options. And for your money, you are getting an LED tail light that gives you some more modern styling thanks to the LED accents. I'm giving this install a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It features a direct plug and play install that can be done within one hour. So with that said, let's check out our install. For this install, we used an impact gun but a ratchet will work just fine and we used an 8-millimeter socket. All right. So the first step in our install we're gonna grab an 8-millimeter socket and with the tailgate down, remove the two bolts on the inside of the tail light. You can use a ratchet for this but we're gonna use the impact gun, just speeds it up a bit. All right. Now you can grab the tail light and pull it straight back towards you. Once you have it exposed, we're gonna unplug both of the connectors. All right. So don't forget about this center one here for the reverse light. Now we are reusing this bulb so we can unplug this connector or you can just twist it out. And then finally, the bottom one, press down and remove the connector. All right. So we are going to have to reuse these plugs for the connectors on our old tail light. Not the actual bulb themselves, just the plug. Go ahead and twist it and remove it. What we're gonna do is take the bulb and pull straight out, to remove the bulb, set that aside. We're gonna install this on our new tail light. Go ahead and repeat that for the lower bulb as well. Now we can take the plug, we're gonna connect this wiring from the new tail light into the plug. Go ahead and fish the wiring into the tail light and then we're gonna line up these tabs with the openings here and then twist it into place same as factory. Repeat that with the other connector as well. Now the fact that these slide in and lock into place is gonna keep the weather out of your tail light and it's a nice feature. Now let's get these installed. All right. So before we can install our tail light, we have to install these two ballasts on the truck. Now I'd recommend, because these get pretty warm, that we install them on a metal surface rather than the plastic of the tail light. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna peel off that double side adhesive. We're gonna go inside here. Gonna go a little bit lower so they'll stay out of the way and press them into place. As long as this pigtail is within reach, that's all we're going for there. So go ahead and place each one inside here. All right. So now that we have the tail light here, we're gonna reconnect this back up light here. We're just gonna put the light socket in there and then twist it into place same as factory. Next up, we're gonna connect both of the factory connectors to the plugs that we transferred over. And finally, we're gonna connect both of the ballasts. Once all of your connectors are secure, line up your tail light. There should be several posts at the back and one at the front here. Line them all up and press them into place. All right. Go ahead and reinstall the factory hardware. Grab your 8-millimeter socket and tighten it down. Repeat that process with the upper hole for your tail light. Install the bolt. Grab your 8-millimeter socket and tighten it own.All right. Now that we have our factory tail light uninstalled from our truck, we can check it out side by side with our new tail light here. And as you guys can see, it keeps a lot of the red styling that you see in the factory but it provides the upgrade of the LEDs. This tail light is powered by LEDs and it also features some LED accents to really dress up the back of your truck. So with that said, let's get back into our install. All right. Now I can repeat that process on the other side starting with your 8-millimeter socket to remove the two bolts. Once the bolts are out, grab the tail light and pull back to remove it. Next up, you can start to remove your connectors. Go ahead and press down on each of the connectors and pull them out. And finally, grab and twist the center bulb and pull it out.All right. Go ahead and repeat that process on your tail light, twisting out the connectors and removing the bulbs. You can set the bulbs aside. We will just be using the plugs for our new tail light. Now we can plug in the connectors for our LEDs into the back of the factory plug. Go ahead and route the wiring into the tail light. Keep in mind there is one larger tab here than the rest, so line that up and twist it into place. Repeat that for the top one as well. All right. So now we can install both the ballasts inside the truck same way as last time. Again, we're going for a metal surface because these do get a little bit on the warm side. And I'm just gonna tuck these in here down and out of the way. Again, you can choose to mount these wherever or however you'd like as long as the wiring harnesses stick out enough for you to be able to plug them in. All right. Now we can mount up our tail light. We're gonna start plugging everything in starting with the reverse light here. Go ahead and plug it in and twist it into place then we can connect our other two connectors. And finally, plug in both of the ballasts. All right. So now we can install the tail light to the truck. You wanna be careful of how the wires are routed. Try to keep them up top and up bottom so they don't get squished. Line up the three tabs. There's two metal tabs and one plastic one up front here. So line them up and then press it into place. All right. Now we can install the factory hardware into the tail light. Grab your 8-millimeter socket and tighten it down. And repeat that process on the bottom. All right. So that is gonna do it for the review and install of these tail lights and remember for all things F-150, keep it at americantrucks.com.
