Simple installation for anyone.
Hi, I'm Joe from americantrucks.com, and today, I'm here with the Extang Tuff Tonno roll-up tonneau cover for all '15 to '18 F-150s. This tonneau cover is going to be the perfect solution for the F-150 owner that's looking to protect their cargo from the elements, as well as prying eyes, and have the ability to roll it up and down quickly at a cost-effective price. Now, one of the best things about this tonneau cover is it doesn't have any snaps or zippers, allowing for this tonneau cover to be rolled up and down with some real speed in comparison to other tonneau covers out there, so fast, in fact, that Extang claims to hold the world's speed record for tonneau covers. Now, another big issue with snaps is that these tonneau covers tend to compress and expand in cold weather, making it really hard to get those last few snaps buttoned down. With the rear tension bar, it makes this tonneau cover super-easy to get nice and taut, even in the coldest temperatures. Extang also claims that this tonneau cover can help clean up some of that turbulent air that comes over the top of the cab, which can result in up to a 10% increase in fuel economy. It is also American-made and boasts a 10-year warranty on the vinyl itself. Now, with all vinyl tonneau covers, if somebody wanted to get into this, they definitely could. If you're carrying anything of value in the bed, go ahead over to our website, take a look at some of those tri-fold hard tonneau covers, as well as some of our other hinged options. However, expect to pay double or triple in price. This tonneau cover is going to be pretty reasonable comparatively. Pricing is going to vary based on bed size, but for this 5½, expect to pay around $300.Install for this is going to be just as easy as it gets. I'm going to give it a one out of three wrenches on our patented difficulty meter, and it should take you around 20 minutes with the supplied Allen key in the kit. Now, today, I'm going to be working on our '15 SuperCrew with a 5½-foot bed. Install is going to be the same for the 6½-foot bed and the 8-foot bed. It's just going to have longer side rails, an extra bow in the middle, and an extra set of clamps. With that being said, let's move on to the install. Tools required for this install is just going to be the one 3/16-inch hex head Allen key, which even comes in the kit.All right. So, for the first step of the install, you are going to need your cab rail, as well as the tarp itself. What we're going to do is, we're going to unclip this here and slide the two together. All right. Just to show you guys the quick difference here, this is the cab end rail. This is the tailgate end rail cap. You're not going to use this one right now. You're going to look for this one. Grab the rail with this cap on the end of it. That's what we're going to slide into the tarp. And to mount that, we're just going to put this end cap back on.Now, next, I find it easiest just to build this frame off the truck. It gives it a little more room to work with and just get it nice and organized, and then we're just going to lift it up, rest it on the side rails, clamp it down, and we'll be all set.So, now we're going to clamp these two together. They go together just like so. And you want to make sure this tapered edge is on the outside of the frame. And now for the other side, and again, tapered edge on the outside of the frame.Next, we're just going to grab the frame and tarp, lift it up, and place it on the bed rails. You might need an extra set of hands for this, so I grabbed one of my buddies in the shop here, just to help me lift it on.With the frame and tarp situated on the truck, next up, we are going to grab our clamps. Now, these are all oriented in a different way, so I have those organized on the table for us here to take a look at. As you can see, there's every permutation here of what we can make out of these clamps. This one closest to the cab is going to have the long arm with a short U. The middle clamp is going to have long arm, long U. And the tailgate clamp is going to have a short U, short arm. There are some stickers on the rails indicating where these should be seated, so we're going to go ahead and throw these on there now.We are going to start with our cab-most clamp. Again, this is a long arm, short U. He sits on there like that, and he gets seated relative to the sticker here. And I'm going to be using the supplied Allen wrench to just hand-snug those for now. Next up is the middle of the bed. This one is going to be long arm, long U, and we're just going to hand-tighten these for now. And for the last clamp, we're going to grab our short arm, short U. Next, we're just going to mirror those clamps on the other side. Now, with your frame roughly situated in the right position, make some minor adjustments, make sure it's all lined up correctly. Once it's in the perfect spot, go around on all six clamps and tighten all of them down. With the frame all snugged down, we are going to move on to these bows. They are marked with a sticker right on the bottom, one that says, "tail," "center," and "cab." We're going to start with the tail. When you mount these, there's actually two selections that you have, one lower mounting point and one upper mounting point here. We're going to shoot for the lower mounting point. And this spring-loaded clip right here makes it really easy to get these bows situated. Give him a little wiggle, done. And it's going to be the same thing for the center and cab bows. All right, so with the frame all built and ready to go, we're just going to situate our tarp right on top of the bows. Now that the tarp is all situated and ready to go, we're going to move on to this rear tension bar here. Now, that releases with two clips on either side, just like that and that, and he actually comes all the way loose. Once you have this guy completely off, you take your end of your tarp. There'll be a little bit of a J-clip here. That J-clip just sits in there. And with that seal all in place, all you have to do is give that a nice pull. You'll hear it click into place, and that creates the tension from the cab to the tailgate. Now, again, one of the best things about this tonneau cover is it doesn't use any of those annoying snaps or zippers. All we're going to do to secure this to the side is give it a start like that, and run our hand down, and that is it. Now, the other side is the same thing, just as simple. And that is going to do it for my review and install of the Extang Tuff Tonno roll-up tonneau cover for all '15 to '18 F-150s. Thanks for watching, and for all things F-150, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.

It's budget friendly but the parts are cheap and flimsy. Mine arrived with broken parts which extang graciously replaced at no cost but the cover doesn't fit over the frame quite as easy. I should've sprung for a higher quality coverHelpful (4)
