Hey, guys. It's Joe from AmericanTrucks. And today we're gonna be taking a closer look at the Diablosport Predator 2 Tuner fitting all '99 to '16 5.3-liter powered Silverado 1500s. Now, this is gonna be a great tuner option for you if you're looking to get some good gains out of your 5.3 motor as well as get some good tools that a tuner like this one can offer that any Silverado owner should be able to put to use. So, what do we have going on here with the Predator? Well, first thing's first, let's talk about numbers. That's what you guys wanna hear, that's what I wanna talk about. So, let's dive right into it. Now, here is how we ran our test. We put the regular stock tires back on, we have 87 in the tank for both the baseline and the after run. For a baseline, we put down 282 horsepower and 308 foot-pounds of torque at the wheels. That's not bad. A little bit low if you're accommodating for a 15% drivetrain loss. But for our after, we put down 294 horsepower and 322 foot-pounds of torque at the wheels. That's good for a 12-horsepower peak gain but the curve numbers are where it really gets good. At around 4,250 RPM, we put down 33 horsepower and 27 foot-pounds of torque. Pretty good numbers. The stock graph does dip a little bit right there in the middle of the RPM range. The Predator seems to deal with that, really flattens out the graph getting you those big peak gains, right in that daily driver RPM. This is something you're definitely going to feel after it's been uploaded to your Silverado really respectable. Well done Diablosport. Now, we did run the 87. So, if you did fill up the truck with 93, had a good fresh tank in there, I bet the numbers would be even better. There are some other options as well. You get 93 and 87 obviously, there are performance and towing versions for both of those tunes. And if you did just want to otherwise keep it stock, they even offer you that with the flexibility of adjusting some of those stock parameters like rev limiters, speed limiters, different gearing, different tire sizes to fix your speedometer, stuff like that. This is capable of taking care of all of that. Some other features about the Predator here. Simple five-button interface really, really simple to deal with. I'm gonna show you guys exactly what it's gonna look like in just a second. Full-color 2.8-inch display, really nice. This is also capable of data logging. So, if you do need to fine tune for any reason, send it off to a tuner, you could offload the files using the USB cord that comes in the kit to your PC. That cable is also going to be used to update this thing. Again, that does come included in the kit. This guy is also data log capable. So, if you do need a diagnostic tool, this is going to allow you to read and clear those DCTs, diagnostic trouble codes as they call them, better known as check engine light. So, a really useful tool to have again for any truck owner out there.Pricing for this is gonna drop in right around the $340 range. Not too bad. Decent gains from the preloaded tunes. Again, the tools on here are great. You should be able to put them to use, no problem, at least a few things anyways. The install is going to be really, really easy as well. You don't need to pop the hood, you don't need to get your hands dirty. Easy one out of three wrenches. This hardwire here plugs right into the OBD2 port. Should take you about 15 minutes to get your truck completely re-flashed. So, without any further ado, let me show you how to upload a tune and what this thing can do features wise. So, all we're gonna have to do to get up and running with this thing, you can see it has a hardwire in here on the bottom of the device. Other end is for the OBD2 port that's below the steering wheel to the left right in the pedal well that is going to plug right into place. Now, as soon as our device is plugged into the OBD2 port, it's going to power on and the first menu we're gonna be greeted with is tune. If we scroll through here, there's also scan and info. We're gonna dive into all three. But first and most pertinent, we're gonna start with tune. So, scroll that, press okay to select it then turn the ignition to on. Don't start the engine here and then you can press okay again. Now, we're just gonna wait a little bit while this connects to the vehicle and reads our stock info. So, just wait out the loading bars. One thing I do wanna note at this portion if you see anything weird happen on the gauge cluster, some weird noises, that's perfectly normal while you're retuning a vehicle with the tuner like this one. So, expect that to happen. Don't be alarmed if it does. So, you can see that was successful. We're just gonna continue to wait until the menu with all of our tune options pops up. And you can see that right now. We have Diablo tune, Diablo tow. Those are actually the 93 tunes on this tuner. We don't have 93 in the tank today, we're going to skip those. We have 87 though. So, that is the one we're going to be selecting. There's also an economy tune and if we want to keep this stock and just mess with the rev limiter, speed limiter, gearing, stuff like that, that will be in the bottom option there, stock with options. So, again, we're 87 performance. We're gonna press okay on that. It's gonna give us a little bit of a warning here. We're going to press okay. And it's just gonna build us that regular 87 performance tune. Just gonna hit okay to confirm. And then we're gonna continue to wait. Now, we're just gonna hang out. Make sure you don't turn the key off. This can take a couple minutes. Not too bad of a wait in order to get this going. All in all, I think maximum again, 15 minutes to get the tune uploaded and the truck ready to roll. Now that we are done, we're just going to complete the process by turning the ignition to the off position and pressing okay. I guess that is gonna lock in. Usually, all tuners complete it with a quick ignition cycle just to make sure I guess. Then we're gonna get a menu confirming 87 performance was successful. We're going to press okay right through that. Now, our truck is reflashed. We're gonna move through the other menu options again just so I can show you what this thing can do. So, we're gonna hit the right button over to scan. This is for diagnostics. Again, allowing you to read and clear those diagnostic trouble codes, check engine lights. There's also data log here. Like I said, this is data log capable. So, if you do need some fine tuning on your tune, you can upload those files to PC, send them off. Battery voltage. This is important. You wanna make sure the battery is nice and strong before you do this. You don't wanna lose power during a tune. That can be really bad. So, that's going to allow you to monitor that right there. 12.1, that is perfect. Gauges and data log, this is what that is going to look like. And here you can just basically narrow down your performance. Indicators, we're going to skip that. Diagnostic trouble codes, read and clear, that's pretty much exactly what you'd expect. Truck is in good shape. That's gonna do it for scan. The last one we have here is gonna info. This is all the vehicle info, our VIN number which is gonna blur out most likely and also the tune level we have currently applied. I believe this number down here is the vehicle OS, operating system if you need that. And then the device info. Basically, the SKU, stock-keeping unit, the app, software version, firmware version, and stuff like that. That is all there. And that's gonna pretty much wrap up how to upload a tune and what this Diablosport tuner can do.Now, guys, that is gonna do it for me. It's also gonna do it for the Diablosport Predator 2 Tuner fitting all '99 to '16 5.3-liter powered Silverado 1500s. As always, thank you guys so much for watching. Subscribe for more like this one. Economy Tune for Practical Fuel Savings. Diablosport acknowledges that your truck’s performance doesn’t always have to be dialed up to eleven, which is why this tuner also includes an economy tune. This tune is designed to work with 87-octane and provides the best fuel economy without compromising engine and transmission performance. This way, you get to save on fuel without your truck feeling overly sluggish.
Ergonomic Design. This Predator 2 tuner is designed to fit comfortably in your hand and features the classic 5-button user interface with four cursors and a central “OK” button. This interface is designed to work with the 2.80-inch full-color display to ensure navigation is highly intuitive.
