Review & Install Video
Hey guys, Adam here with americantrucks.com. Today, I'm bringing you a quick overview and installation of Carrichs X-Fender Flares in the polished stainless steel finish, and they're available for all '09 to '14 F-150s. The Carrichs X-Fender Flares in the polished stainless steel finish are available for any '09 to '14 F-150 owner, who might be interested in picking up a new set of wheels and tires that might be a little bit bigger and you might wanna keep it street legal, while at the same time, picking up that rugged off-road appearance with a flashier, more attractive shine. And lastly, you might also be interested in just protecting the side panels of your F-150 from on and off road trail hazards. Now, in addition to that, I will say the installation will get a very simple one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, it does not require any drilling or permanent modifications, but if you'd like to make it more permanent, Carrichs does include the necessary hardware to do so.First thing I wanna touch on here is going to be the fact that these are somewhat protective for your F-150. Anytime you add a set of fender flares to the sides of your truck, you are automatically protecting your body panels and your paint, where it does cover it up from on-road debris like rocks and off-road debris because we know there can be a ton of hazards out there on the trails. Now, if you're looking to pick up a bigger set of wheels and tires or if you already have done so and they expand past your factory fenders, they do automatically become illegal for street usage. You could correct that issue by adding some extra tire clearance with a set of fender flares. Now, the ones we have here only add about two inches give or take of extra clearance, but that might be all that you need to keep it legal on the road. And lastly, the style is pretty obvious. So, if you're looking to add some fender flares, you do get an off road aggressive, more rugged look for most cases. Now, since this is a polished stainless steel mirror-like shine look, this does add a flashier, more car show type of appearance to the exterior of your truck. If you've got a bunch of chrome accents on the truck already like the front grille, the bumpers, this may add just that extra accent to kind of top things off. Now if that's the kind of stuff that you're into, I would push you in the direction of these fender flares because there really aren't many chrome options out there like this one. Now, Carrichs lets us know that these are manufactured from a high quality stainless steel. Now when I first heard that, I did expect there to be a very thick, durable material and I will say that they are pretty durable, but they are also very flexible. So keep that in mind when you get them out of the box and in your hand, they do seem pretty flexible like this, but they are made to take a beating and sit directly flush as custom molded should be to your factory fenders. So, it does look like it came on the car from the factory. Now with that said, these do run about 100 bucks for the set, I only have two on the table with me today, but you wanna keep in mind there is four available for obviously all four corners. Now with that said, it is a more budget-friendly option as far as fender flares are concerned, so if you're looking for a more protective option, there are a lot thicker and bigger fender flares on the market that would run you just a little bit more money. As far as the installation is concerned, from start to finish, this shouldn't take you longer than about an hour or so, and it will get a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. All you'd have to do is use the clips provided in the kit to get this attached to your fenders, and the 3M automotive bonding tape already pre-applied to the back of the flares, will actually apply directly to the body of your vehicle. Now with that said, it is extremely easy to remove with some heat, so it is not a permanent solution. If you'd like to make it a permanent solution, they do include all the bolts necessary to do so, but you'll need a drill on deck to do some drilling to get it on. Either way, I will give it a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, and again, start to finish, all four corners about an hour or so.
