Justin: The Borla S-Type is a personal favorite of mine for the 5-liter trucks and would be an excellent choice for the '11 to '14 V8 owners who want to make a decent amount of noise along with grabbing a premium system in regards to materials and fitment. Now, in a typical Borla fashion, the S-Type is going to pack a stellar build quality on what that premium 304 grade stainless, along with a very cool split rear exit configuration and polished tips all for right around 1,000 bucks. Now, your install here is going to get a middle of the road two outta three wrenches on the difficulty meter. Take you a couple of hours or so to complete from start to finish as we'll demonstrate a little later in the video. So, as I briefly mentioned at the very top of this video, guys, the S-Type has been a personal favorite of mine on both the Mustang and truck side for some time now, because I feel it just delivers the right amount of volume, but at the same time, it does maintain that nice, deep thumping tone overall. Now, on the topic of volume, what do you say we whip out our highly scientific wake the neighbor scale and honestly, S-Type is producing a good amount of bark here. Now, not the loudest system out there, not Borla ATAK loud, but it's certainly is gonna get you noticed. So, therefore, I'm going to go soft four out of five here on my one to five or one to wake the neighbor scale. Again, it's not quite Borla ATAK loud, but it certainly isn't going to be your neighbor's favorite system either. Now inside the truck, on the other hand, while cruising, well, listen, guys, it's a Borla. They are really, really good at making sure things sound great and loud on the outside, but still maintaining a very pleasant and quiet ride on the inside. And the same can be said here for the S-Type for your 5-liter F-150. But, let's talk a little bit more about what's responsible for shaping the sound of the S-Type and pretty obvious, right? You have your signature S-Type muffler working in conjunction with the included mid-pipe resonator and together it's going to keep volume up while keeping that rasp down at the same time, get a nice deep tone here with the S-Type.But now that we've covered that sound a little bit more, what do you say we get into the build quality of the Borla and listen, guys, if you've been a fan of Borla, you've owned their systems over the years, you kind of know where this is going, right? Nothing but quality stuff here from the American-made company, including your premium 304-grade stainless steel throughout, which is kind of the benchmark material in the land of aftermarket exhaust systems. Now, going even further with the construction, you're gonna find a combination of 3-inch tubing here, at least a little bit of it before it enters the muffler and then steps down the 2.25-inch tubing, all of it mandrel-bent. Nice welds, you know the deal. Now, everything's going to exit out of your twin 4-inch tips here, polished to a nice shine and embossed with the Borla logo. Quick heads up, I always like to point this out. If you're more of a fan of a black tip exhaust system, Borla has you covered. Also find it here on the site, might cost you a little bit extra, but it is available. But last but not least guys, what do you say we show you how to get this installed on your F-150 at home? So, without further ado, here's that detailed walkthrough and quick tool breakdownMan: Tools used for this install are a cordless impact gun, a ratchet, 18-millimeter socket, 17-millimeter socket, 15-millimeter socket, 13-millimeter socket, 10-millimeter socket, and a 21-millimeter wrench. So, the first step of this install is going to be to remove your factory exhaust system to make room for your new one. In order to get started on this, you're gonna want to have your vehicle safely supported on either a lift or jack stands. So, let's get started. So, I'm going to start by removing these two bolts here on the inlet flange. It's a good idea to hit them with a little bit of rust penetrant before you remove them. So, I'm just gonna spray down the bolt threads, and then I'm gonna use a 13-millimeter socket on my ratchet and remove the bolts. So, my next step is going to be remove these two bolts for the hanger in front of the muffler. Now, you can just remove the hanger from the rubber isolator if you want, but I find it easier to remove the hanger completely and swap it over to your new exhaust system off of the vehicle. So, the next thing I'm gonna do is I'm going to spray the other two hangers with some penetrant, and I'm gonna use my pry bar to push the exhaust system back out of the hangers. And with the help of a friend, I'm going to lift the exhaust up over the axle and remove it from the truck. So, before I install my new exhaust system onto the vehicle, I'm actually going to assemble my resonator, my medium pipe, and my muffler altogether loosely with the clamps on the floor. And I'm not gonna forget to install the previously unbolted hanger onto the new hanger for the exhaust system. So, basically, I'm just gonna put these pieces together loosely and slide them into the truck and bolt things down. Now, I'm ready to put these into the hangers onto the truck. All right. So, with my intermediate pipe and muffler assembly put together, I can sit my over axle pipe on the axle, and then I'm going to lift everything up into place, insert the hanger rod into the rubber isolator, and then I'm going to make my connection up at the front at the inlet pipe. Now, I'm just gonna use the provided hardware and loosely put the bolts in. Now, I can reinstall the hanger bolts that I've took out in the removal process. At this point, I can go through and just snug my clamps up. Do not fully tighten them. I'll wait until I have all of the pipes installed and I get everything the way I want it, but this is just gonna be to hold things in place while I work. Now, I need to install the rear hanger brackets here at the leaf spring shackle mounts. I'm going to use an 18-millimeter socket and a 21-millimeter wrench, and I'm going to remove just the nut for this bolt. And then I'm going to install my hanger onto the bolt end and reinstall my nut.I'm gonna snug this back up, but I'm actually gonna wait until the weight of the vehicle is back down on the leaf spring so the shackle is sitting in the proper place. And now, I'm just gonna do the same thing on the other side of the vehicle. So, now, I'm ready to install the provided rubber hangers onto the hanger rods that I just installed here at the leaf spring shackles, a little bit of lubricant will go a long way to get these things to slide right on it.So, now, we're ready to install the tips into place. I have my clamp preinstalled on the pipe and I applied a little bit of penetrant onto the hanger there so that the hanger rod slides right into place. All right. So, because the driver side tip is actually a two-piece assembly, what I'm going to do is put this together on the ground and then slide everything up into the vehicle once I have it all together. I'm gonna preinstall my clamps onto the pipe, and then slide the pieces together. And then I'll put it up on the truck. Now that I have all my pipes loosely fitted into place, I'm going to take a 17-millimeter socket on my ratchet, and I'm going to tighten down the provided hardware here at the two-bolt flange, and the inlet of the muffler. Then I'm going to work my way back, tightening up my clamps as I get everything positioned the way I want it. Next, I'm gonna take a 15-millimeter socket on my impact gun and start tightening up my clamps, working my way to the back. Finally, with the weight of the vehicle down sitting on the suspension, you can go back and tighten up your leaf spring shackle bolts with your 18-millimeter socket and 21-millimeter wrench. And that's gonna wrap up this review and install on the Borla Stinger S-Type Dual Rear Exit Exhaust with polished tips, fitting your 2011 to 2014 F-150 with a 5-liter motor.
