Hey, guys. I'm Eric with AmericanTrucks. In this video, I'm gonna give you my review and installation of this Barricade HD Off-Road Rear Bumper for all 2007 to '13 Silverado and Sierra 1500s. This Barricade bumper is really gonna appeal to the Silverado and Sierra 1500 owners out there who are looking to complete that more aggressive blacked-out style, especially if you already have a similarly styled bumper mounted on the front of your truck because it's really that aggressive, rugged, styling, and good looks that really jumps out at you when you first look at this bumper. But don't let the aggressive styling fool you, this bumper isn't just for good looks. There is a lot of feature upgrades that you're gonna get with this bumper, including better terrain and obstacle avoidance and clearance as it raises up a little bit higher than your factory bumper. You also are gonna get the ability to add off-road lighting as well as much sturdier rear-end protection that wraps around the corners for your truck.Like I mentioned, you do have the ability to add some auxiliary lighting to this bumper, and what I really like about the way they design it is the kit comes complete with these brackets that cover the holes if you're not gonna add lighting to give it a more dressed-up finished appearance. However, you can put cube lights in there, either for bright LEDs for lighting up when you're outside in the dark or in bad weather and you're repositioning your vehicle or you could mount amber lighting in there if you're riding down a dusty trail or some other type of low visibility condition with friends who might be following you down that trail. And I think you'll find if you shop around for rear bumpers for these trucks, not every bumper made by every manufacturer is gonna offer those panels to dress things up and give it that finished appearance. Sometimes it's just a wide-open hole. To me, that looks a little unfinished and not quite as nice as this Barricade bumper. The other thing we're gonna do here in just a couple of minutes in this video is we're gonna put these up side-by-side with your stock bumper, and we're gonna show you just how much of a rugged upgrade you're getting with your Barricade HD off-road bumper. Now this bumper's made from cold-formed heavy-duty 5/32-inch steel plate and finished in a 2-stage rugged black powder coat to protect against weathering and corrosion. This bumper is designed to be a direct bolt-on fit to your truck. Now, coming in right around $800, I think you'll find this bumper is very competitively priced to other rear bumpers out there considering the upgrades and protection and functionality that you do get with this Barricade bumper. Now, as far as the installation goes, I'm giving this a very solid one 1 of 3 wrenches on the difficulty meter, almost 2, but we're gonna leave it at 1 out of 3. And the only reason I say that is because you are gonna do a little bit of wiring to get the license plate lamp to work correctly on this new bumper. But other than that, all you're gonna need are some basic hand tools and a second set of hands to help you get the bumper in place and you should get this job done in easily under two hours. So, with that said, let's go ahead and do the installation. Okay, guys, the tools you're gonna see in this installation, we're gonna be using a heat gun, a wire stripper and crimper, a female and male connector pieces, the Allen key that comes included in the kit, as well as 22, 21, 18, 15, and 10-millimeter deep well sockets, a socket extension, an 18-millimeter crescent wrench, a 21-millimeter crescent wrench, a 1/4-inch drive, as well as a pair of impact drivers. All right, guys. As you can see here, we have our truck up on a lift. Now to do this installation, by no means do you have to lift your vehicle off the ground. But we do so here at AmericanTrucks to get better video angles for our cameras. But as you can see here, I have this support underneath the trailer hitch. It clearly lays out in the instruction manual for this kit that you should support the rear bumper here when you start unbolting things. That's a good safety procedure. If you have a floor jack or some other type of jack stand or something like that, you can put underneath your rear bumper as you're starting to unbolt things, that's probably a very good idea. So what we're gonna start off with is I'm gonna unplug our wiring harnesses for our license plate lamps and for our trailer hitch wiring harness. If you have other wiring back there, make sure you unplug anything that's attached to the bumper before we go removing it. And then from there, we'll move on to the bolts and nuts holding the bumper to the frame rail. All right, guys. This is our trailer wiring hitch. Go ahead and pinch the side and back it off. All right. And then just follow the wiring you have for your license plate lamps. It's gonna be this one on our truck. So I'm gonna pull this one out. All right, guys, first step here, we're on the driver's side of the truck. This is our frame rail and this is where the bumper comes in. We're gonna go after this bolt right here and then these two nuts. This bolt up here is a 15-millimeter.All right, guys. Now to go after these nuts right here, 18-millimeter socket. All right. Now we're gonna take out this bolt right here. This goes through your trailer hitch bracket to the frame rail and it's one of the bolts holding our bumper on. This is a 21-millimeter. All right. Now, taking out all this hardware on the driver's side, go ahead and repeat that same steps on the passenger side. All right, guys. Now we'll get ready to remove the bumper now that we've pulled out all that hardware. Just something I wanna make you aware of, we work on these trucks. These are fleet trucks here at AmericanTrucks. So, we run our wiring so that we can do this over and over again. The factory wiring on your truck might be a little different, so just be aware that when you pull your bumper off, do it slowly. If you have any wiring harnesses that are attached to the backside of the bumper, you might need to pop them out with a body trim removal tool. Just be aware of that. I don't want you to go yanking on anything and pull any wires out. So, right now, I'm gonna go ahead and take this bumper off.All right, guys. Now we have our factory bumper off the truck seated up here on the stand to do our typical side-by-side comparison with our new Barricade rear bumper. And as you can see, you get all blacked-out appearance that's gonna give your truck a much more aggressive look. I really like that. And a lot of other styling characteristics that come with a lot of Barricade's products. And I kind of like this tapering up on the ends. That's gonna give you a little bit better ground clearance if you're doing some off-roading and you need to get over some obstacles or terrain. The other nice thing too is you can add cube lighting in these spots here on the bumper. This little grid comes out with a couple of bolts on the backside and we'll show you how to put those in in just a minute. So, you do have that option that's also very nice. This bumper is drilled for backup sensors, which this truck does not have. So, unfortunately, we won't be able to demonstrate that for you today. However, I will show you where those mount when we have this bumper up on the table. And, again, you're gonna get a lot better protection for the rear end of your truck. You've got heavier gauge steel here that's got a nice, tough powder coat on it compared to the thinner chrome bumper from the factory. So, all in all, I think it's a nice upgrade, especially if you do any off-roading or any rough work with your truck. So, with that being said, let's go over to the table and I'll show you some of these smaller bits that we're gonna install on the bumper. All right, guys, with our factory bumper up here on the table, I just wanna show you a couple of things we're gonna have to remove because we're gonna be reusing them to a certain extent on the new bumper.First off is our trailer hitch plug right here. And then we're also gonna pull out the wiring for the license plate lights because we're gonna reuse some of that, and especially the plug for the wiring harness on the new bumper. Now, to remove this plug for our trailer hitch wiring harness, just lift this lid up. There's a little lock tab right here, push in on it with a screwdriver, and then twist. And that comes right out.Next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna remove the wiring for the license plate lights. These simply twist off from the back, and then you can push them back through and do the same thing on the other side. All right, guys. Now we have our Barricade bumper up here in the table, I wanna show you a couple of things close up that we're gonna do before we actually mount the bumper on the truck. We're gonna be installing these cover plates for the openings for rear fog lights because we don't have any lights to go on the truck today. I'm also gonna demonstrate the plugs for the backup sensors. We're gonna plug those holes here on video today because our truck does not have backup sensors. We're also gonna mount the trailer hitch wiring harness and we've got the two plugs here that'll go up here for your license plate, as well as the routing tube that will mount on the backside. That's where you can lower your spare tire from underneath your truck. All right, guys. Now to mount these plates up, I'll just kind of drop that in place. In your kit, you're gonna have some hex head button head bolts, little tiny ones, and some serrated flange nuts. I'm mounting these. I like mounting it so that the bolt is pointing outward. Otherwise, if you have it pointing inward, you got this hardware that's kind of sticking to the background and gives it a less clean look. But just go ahead and start that. You want the washer and lock washer on the bolt side because this is a serrated flange nut that'll kind of lock itself in place a little bit. And there's two Allen keys in the kit. Grab the larger one and a 10-millimeter socket to tighten this up.And then moving on to the next item, these rubber plugs in here are just simply kind of tight, but they'll plug right in. Simply like that. Now, if you have backup sensors, there are some tiny set screws that come in the kit, as well as little half-moon plugs, and you'd simply mount that instead in conjunction with your backup sensor. We have one more plug here on the outer edge, and then you can repeat those same steps on the other side of the bumper. All right. Now, to install this tube here, you can see it's angled. You wanna make sure that it's angled kind of pointed towards the center line of your truck. We're gonna mount it in from behind and you have basically similar hardware that I just showed you for the plates. You're gonna have these button head hex head bolts, as well as this time you have lock nuts. So, you don't have lock washer for these, but they're 10-millimeter as well. So, keep the same tools going. All right. Again, it's a 10-millimeter on that nut. That was to be honest, a little awkward guys. But for the sake of this shot, you at home will probably wanna maybe lay your bumper down to mount this up might be a little easier for you. And then using the same tools, go ahead and tighten up the other side. All right. Last couple of things from the outside here, you got your license plate clips. Will just snap into place. And our license plate lamp here, just make sure the part that's gonna illuminate is facing your license plate. Feed the wires through that hole. And it has these little clips right here, should just pop into place and hold itself. It's not super tight, so you can kind of adjust that if you need to.All right, guys. Now we're gonna do some wiring to power up our license plate lamp. As you remember when we were doing the uninstall, we preserved our factory wiring harness. Now, if I were you and this is gonna be a permanent installation on your vehicle, you can splice into your wiring a lot closer to the plug that's gonna plug into the back of your truck. We're not gonna do that. This isn't a permanent install on our truck. So I'm gonna do it more out towards the end.But if you wanna do it this way, make sure you're picking the long end because that's gonna reach furthest over and make sure you have enough slack to reach your new license plate lamp on your Barricade bumper. You have like these crimper/wire stripping tools, cutting tool, they're great. I recommend them. You're gonna need something like that for this. You're basically gonna cut off the passenger-side license plate lamp bulb. Take our two wires here, we're gonna strip them down, strip the sheathing off of them. And I've already stripped the sheathing off of our new lamp. What I'm gonna basically just do is splice on some male connectors on the light bulb end and some female connectors on the wiring harness end, and crimp those down and heat-shrink them. And that's pretty much the job. So nothing too complicated. Get enough wire in there, go ahead and crimp it down. Do the same thing for your black wire. If you push through a little excess, you can kind of fold over the end like that. And that will give it a little bit of extra something to pull against and keep it secure inside that clip. The thing about wiring is there are a number of ways you can do it. I'm just showing you one. If this is a permanent install, you might just be splicing these wires together permanently. But we're gonna be plugging and unplugging stuff on our fleet vehicle, so that's why I'm choosing to do it this way. But point of the matter is don't be afraid of wiring. It's not too complicated. These aren't high voltage wires. It's not like you have to worry about crazy shocks. All right. Once you got those connectors on there, we're gonna use a heat gun and these are shrink-wrapped. We're just gonna heat this up and get those tightened up to protect against weather. Okay. Now that these have cooled off for a minute after using the heat gun, I do wanna show you a couple of things. If you guys are gonna permanently splice this in, these are the kind of connectors you're gonna wanna get. Basically, the wire goes in each side, you crimp it down, and heat-shrink it. It's really very simple. You don't need to do what I'm showing you here, although this is an option. But just make sure you're reconnecting black wire to black wire. And in this case on our truck, it's a brown wire that we're gonna connect the red wire to. It might be slightly different on your vehicle. And you can also put a heat-shrink sleeve over top of that if you wanna protect this from the elements as well. All right. Last but not least, we have our trailer wiring harness, slides in here. Now, I don't know if your wiring harness might be a little different than the one that's on our truck. It's a little loose on this bumper. And what I wanna show you is there's a tab on the back here that you can drill holes through to match up with these holes here if you wanna run some hardware through those holes and make it a little bit more of a snug fit. Now, remember, with this installed, your wiring harness from your truck plugging into the back will kind of keep it snug, won't be absolutely tight. So it's up to you how you wanna install it.All right, guys. So mounting the bumper on the truck, we're first gonna attach some brackets to each frame rail, driver and passenger side, and then we're gonna mount the bumper to those brackets. But to do that, I wanna point out as far as the heavy-duty hardware is concerned in your kit, there are three different bolt sizes. There's a large one, a middle one, and then kind of a thinner one. That one that's in the middle, set that aside for right now. We're not gonna be dealing with those. So that's gonna leave you this really heavy-duty bolt and then this longer skinnier bolt. Grab the skinnier one, that's what we're gonna use first. With that, it's gonna have a lock nut that's gonna fit with it and two washers. So, go ahead and grab your brackets. These are side-specific. This one is stamped with a letter D for driver's side. And you're gonna slide it up here on top of the frame rail. All right. Now, to get that tightened up, go ahead and grab a 16-millimeter crescent wrench for the bolt head and a 17-millimeter socket for the inside on the nut. As you can see as I did that, tightened the bracket up nice and snug to the frame rail. All right. Now go ahead and grab one of those big, bad boy bolts. This is a 21-millimeter on the bolt side and the nut is slightly larger at 22-millimeter. But you're gonna feed that in through this hole here and using washers on both sides, go ahead and start the nut. All right. Go ahead and grab another large bolt, drop it in from the top down. And another lock washer, or a locknut and washer I should say. And we'll go ahead and tighten those up.All right. Tightening these down, guys, I'm using a 21-millimeter crescent wrench up on top on the bolt head and a 22-millimeter socket here for the nuts. Okay. Now that we've repeated the process to mounting the bracket on the other frame rail, one last thing we're gonna do before we get the bumper up on there is go ahead...and remember how I described there's three different size heavy-duty bolts and nuts that come in this kit, grab the middle-sized one. You're gonna need two on each side. And what we're gonna do is we're gonna mount these in here and also grab these little square clear plastic retaining clips. Once we feed the bolt through, you can thread this clip up on there. It'll hold the bolt in place while you lift the bumper up on the truck. So, go ahead and take these bolts, insert it through the back and then kind of thread these on. And that'll hold them there more or less while we get the bumper on. And go ahead and repeat that on the other side. All right. Now I kind of took that wiring harness, I draped it up over the trailer hitch just to kind of keep it out of our way. Now we're gonna grab with the help of a friend, the bumper here. We're gonna lift it up into place. Now be careful, those plastic clips are holding those bolts on. Make sure you're getting good alignment before you push it up on. Otherwise, you might back that bolt out and make more work for yourself. All right, guys. We have the truck up on the lift, so we're doing things very safely. So we already have a bolt started here to hold the bumper up in place, but it's pretty simple with these. You just have a big washer on each side and then a lock washer and then a standard nut. I'm just gonna get those started. And then there are 18 millimeters on both sides, I'm gonna tighten those up. And, of course, torque these down to spec before you're done. And repeat on the other side. All right. Now with the bumper mounted on, just don't forget to reconnect your trailer hitch wiring harness, and then reconnect your license plate lamp wiring.Okay. That wraps up my review and installation of this Barricade HD Off-Road Rear Bumper for all '07 to '13 Silverado and Sierra 1500s. And for everything truck, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
