Hey, guys, Adam here with americantrucks.com. And today we're taking a closer look at and installing the Axial Smoked LED Mirror-Mounted Turn Signal available for the '09 to '14 F-150. You should be checking this out if you're looking for a modern upgrade in the lighting department to the side profile of your trucks that not only increase the appearance and improve the appearance but also improve visibility and safety. Now, some trucks on the road came with a factory turn signal at the back end of the mirror, and some of them didn't. Now, our 2010 F-150 did not, but instead, it came with a plastic insert. Whether your truck came with one or not, this is gonna be a huge upgrade. You're moving from the factory incandescent bulbs if your truck came with one, and you're replacing a blackout delete plate if it didn't. This guy's gonna use an upgraded LED technology and a long LED strip there that'll light up in a vibrant bright amber with your turn signals and hazard lights. Now, our truck, like I said, did not come with one, but it did come with a turn signal on the inside of the mirror. So this way you get one on both sides to increase visibility and safety especially at nighttime. Now, there is an option in the category that operates with a sequential light if you're looking for one with a super modern appearance that blinks from the inside out, but if you're more into the traditional turn signal that blinks in one solid flashing light, this one's gonna be the way to go.It's got a smoked housing, which gives you a more stealthy appearance blending in with the blackout plate on the back end of the mirror mount, and it's also got a built-in black housing. Now, the black housing is gonna remove all that chrome reflective interior you would traditionally get from an amber turn signal. This guy here is gonna give you more of the modern stealthy approach and really blend in when the light's off. Now, the price tag comes in right around 50 bucks for the pair. You get one for both sides, and it is a direct plug-and-play. Now, there's a caveat to that. If your truck did not come with a turn signal on the mirror side of the mirror mount, then this is not gonna work for your truck. It has to have that pre-existing turn signal on the inside in order to plug in. So if your truck didn't come with one, not gonna be for you, but if your truck did come with one, it'll plug straight in. The install, I'm giving one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Anybody can tackle this in the driveway at home with about 30 minutes from start to finish knocking out both sides. Very simple hand tools will get the job done. All you really need is a Phillips-head screwdriver. I'm gonna walk you through that process here on the passenger side, then you'll repeat that on the driver. What do you say we get started?Tools used in this install include an impact gun and a Phillips-head socket or bit, but you can also just use a Phillips-head screwdriver. The first step of the uninstall is fairly simple, but before we get to it, one thing I wanna do first is take our mirror and angle it outward so it's easier for you guys to see because, obviously, it is on the inside a little bit more. So I'm just gonna pop it out just like that. What we have to do is pop our glass off of the actual housing. Now, in order to do that, you're basically just putting your fingers underneath the glass at the top and prying outward, and it should pop right out of its housing. There are just a bunch of push pin clips all along a ring in the center there, and we'll see that once it comes off. So you're just popping it straight out of the housing. First thing we wanna do is take your thumbs, push down on the bottom so that the top end there pops out. Pry your fingers underneath and pop it right off the housing just like that. From there, we can just let that guy dangle down a little bit. Next up, you wanna take a Phillips-head screwdriver. I'm gonna use a Phillips-head bit on my impact gun. There are four Phillips-head screws holding on the backing plate here. Some models may have Torx screws in which case you wanna grab the appropriate Torx bit. We're gonna use our Phillips-head here, so get all four of those off. From here, we can carefully pop the mirror forward, which is gonna help us visualize the back end a little bit easier, and then you wanna pop the backing plate off. All right, set this guy aside. Now, of course, if your model did come with a factory turn signal in the mirror, you wanna unplug that and then pop out the actual turn signal itself. Ours came with a plastic insert or a delete. In order to get that off, we don't have to unplug anything. We just have to push on it from the inside and unclip it from the outside. Just like that, and this, of course, is just a piece of plastic, so we'll set it aside and install our new turn signal. Next up, you wanna take the backing plate for your mirror and the right side turn signal from Axial. It's labeled "R" in the corner here for the passenger side. You wanna feed the wires before plugging them into the included harnesses through that hole on the right or the inside. Make sure the tab seats in there as well, then on the other side, you're gonna put pressure to click it in place. Just like that, and that's seated, and we have the wiring on the back. Now, we do have to pre-assemble a couple of extra wires, and then we'll plug them into the back of our factory mirror. So, next, we have the splitter or the adapter wire that I'll plug in and tap into our factory turn signal in the mirror at the front end, but before we can do that, we got to take this little black adapter, and we're basically just gonna plug it in.So the black is gonna go to the black and snap that into place. Now, on the wires on the back of our light here that we just installed, we have to basically put them in. We're gonna pin the connector. Now, when you take a look at this black adapter, you wanna note which side the black wire or the ground is on and the red wire or the power wire is on. Take the black wire from the back of the light and insert it to the front end on the same side as the black wire on the adapter harness. You wanna seat it all the way in. Do the same thing for the red wire, making sure it's on the side of the red wire on the splitter. All right, so they're connected. We have black to black, red to red or ground to ground, power to power. Now, we can plug this into the factory turn signal. Next up, you just wanna hold that backing plate up toward the mirror itself. On the back end of that factory turn signal that's below the mirror, you're just gonna unplug by pulling straight back on that harness. Now, this is a splitter here, so the factory harness is gonna plug into the thicker connector on our splitter. It only goes on one way, so just flip it around if it doesn't connect. Make sure it's seated all the way, and the other end is gonna tap into the factory turn signal. You're just gonna plug that guy in, and now that's running power to this turn signal and this turn signal. At that point, we can make sure the wires are tucked in, and now we can mount our backing plate, and now we can use the factory screws from the front end to secure it. All right. Next, just grab those factory screws and put them back in. Now, we can snap our mirror back in place by bringing that guy up, centering it, and pushing it right in. Perfect. Pop it back into place. Repeat on the other side, and you're good to go. That's gonna wrap up my quick overview and install for the Axial Smoked Mirror-Mounted Turn Signal for the '09 to '14 F-150.
