Single Beam LED Headlight Bulbs; High Beam; 9005 (15-23 F-150 w/ Factory Halogen Headlights)
If you've been suffering through the awful factory halogen bulbs in your 2015 and newer F-150, well, then it's time to look into an affordable LED upgrade like the Axials we're talking about here today. The H11 Axial bulbs will replace the dingy, yellow, low-output factory bulbs with a modern and very bright LED all for right around 100 bucks for the pair. Now, install will be a total plug-and-play job, guys, so figure a soft one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and I'd say roughly 20 minutes or so to complete from start to finish. So, as someone who has dealt personally with the factory halogens in my old Lariat, let me just say that I feel your pain. Nighttime visibility was downright terrible. And, honestly, it's kind of a sin that Ford is still putting these outdated poor-performing halogens on $30,000 to $40,000 trucks. Now, you could always upgrade to a new set of headlights entirely, but chances are you're gonna be spending anywhere from 400 to 500, even 1,000 bucks if not more. Or on the other hand, you can just opt for a more cost-effective alternative and just simply upgrade to an LED bulb. And the LEDs that we are referring to at least here today is a set of H11s from Axial, which, again, will replace the low beams in your 2015 and newer F-150.Now, these LEDs do utilize SMD or surface-mounted devices to help produce a very bright white light at a 6000K color temperature. Now, those LEDs have been rated to over 30,000 hours of continuous use and, get this, will use only one-tenth of the power of your factory incandescent bulbs. But aside from what we're talking about here today and showing you with our shop truck here at americantrucks.com, I do highly encourage you guys to check out some of the customers' submitted images and reviews in regards to the Axials here. It's a great way to read up on what truck owners actually think about running these things in their rig. Spoiler alert, a lot of people are digging them. And it's also a great way to check out some of the unique images that our customers have provided. And it really does give you a better sense of what these bad boys will look like once they've been installed into your rig. Speaking of which, now comes a point in the video where we wanna just give you a better walkthrough of how to get the bulbs installed in your 2015 and newer F-150. So, without further ado, check out our detailed walkthrough right now.Tools used for this installation include a 1/4-inch ratchet, 5.5-millimeter socket, and a bungee cord. All right, guys, we're gonna get started here installing our LED headlight bulbs, and I'm gonna show you a little hack today. Typically, you have to blow apart the entire front end to access the headlight, remove it, and then install your bulb, which takes a long time. So, what I'm gonna show you guys today is that you don't have to do all that, instead, you can get underneath the splash shield here in the fender well, reach your hand up and swap the bulbs that way. So, getting started, I like to pop the hood anyway, it gives us a little bit more light. We got the wheel cranked all the way to the left. Now, we're gonna get to work on our fender liner. All right, guys, as you can see, again, we have our wheel cranked just to give us a little bit more working room here. Now, you'll have to excuse the appearance of our truck, we've had this thing apart a million times. Typically, you'd find a 5.5-millimeter bolt here, here, and then one up here, which ours is still in place. Those are what you're gonna want to remove first in order to start getting the fender liner out of the way. So, pull these two bolts out. We're gonna do this one up here next.Next up, we have this little plastic clip in here, we will need to remove this next. You can either use your hand, flathead screwdriver, panel removal tool to get that out of the way. And it should let our fender liner be a little bit more loose. With all of our bolts and clips removed, now we can bend this up and out of the way. I actually have a little bungee cord here which will help me keep it up and out of the way and give us some more room to work. All right, guys, within a couple of minutes, we have access to both our high beam here down low and our low beam which is up top. Again, I think this is a lot easier of a method to access the bulbs rather than disassembling the front end. So, now what we need to do, this is gonna be a little bit of feel, we need to get up here and remove the rubber boot on the low beam side, and that will allow us to remove the bulb itself. And as for the bulb, you just basically wanna twist counterclockwise. You can feel it release, then you can pull it out. Got my hand in there. With it released, go ahead and grab the plug, pinch, and then now you can remove the bulb itself. All right, guys. Now that we have our halogen bulb removed here, nothing fancy. Obviously, it's a stock bulb, dated technology, but whatever, it does the job. Now, here's our Axial LED, and honestly, it's hard to tell the difference here side by side without seeing them in action. But what you're getting is your modern LED or diode there. Really big nice aluminum heat sink resistor built in. Just a really nicely assembled bulb. And, honestly, it's gonna be one of those things that side by side, it might not look like a whole lot different. But then once you see them in action, well, that's when you'll see where the difference really comes into play. One thing I do wanna make note of here, guys, is because of the length difference between the two bulbs, you will not be able to reuse that rubber boot that we removed earlier unless you modify it. So, because this truck is going back to stock after this install, we are not gonna modify ours today. Just keep in mind if that's something you do wanna do, simply just cut a little hole in the middle, make room for that heat sink, and you should be good to go. But enough yapping, let's get this new guy in place. All right, guys. So, as for the installation, again, a lot of feel going on here. We apologize, it's gonna be difficult to see. But the general idea is you're gonna wanna take your new LED bulb, stick it into the opening, and then turn it clockwise to lock it into place. And then at that point, we'll just go ahead and make our connection here with our plugs. So, let's get it in place. Once you feel it go into the housing, go ahead and twist it and lock it in. Now, we have our connector. We're gonna connect it to the factory harness. We're good to go. With everything plugged in and installed, never a bad idea just to turn the headlights on real quick, make sure it fires up as it should. Once you've double-checked everything is working properly, now we can reassemble or reinstall the fender liner with our truck. First up, we're gonna go ahead and remove our bungee cord here. Get that out of the way. Now, we're gonna start reinstalling our plastic fastener along with our 5.5-millimeter screws. And, again, if you did have your truck completely assembled or together, then you would be installing these two screws next, followed by your third and final 5.5-millimeter screw up here. All right, guys. With that bolt finally tightened up here, your install on the driver's side is wrapped up. You're just gonna simply repeat that process on the passenger's side, and that's gonna complete the job.Hey, guys. We hope you enjoyed this review and install of the Axial H11 Bulbs available for your 2015 and newer halogen-equipped F-150 at home.
