These maintenance free steps are pressure sensitive and can even be manually deployed while closing the doors for access to loading your truck's roof.  Paired with a high load capacity, this function makes these steps perfect for those who carry cargo above the cab as well as the daily driver seeking a more convenient step.  Each step features a 600 lbs. load capacity, ensuring superior strength and durability for the many adventures ahead.

Premium Construction. Each PowerStep is proudly designed and made in the USA. They features OE quality motors and high strength die case aluminum alloy components completed in a military spec finish to ensure superior corrosion resistance. The steps are crafted from extruded aluminum and finished in a tough black textured powder coat for an extra secure footing and long lasting durability. They're weather proof and designed to take on any climate for reliable performance.

Light Weight Design. Unlike heavy steel tubes, these side steps feature a lightweight and aerodynamic design, making them perfect for daily drivers and work rigs. Thanks to the lightweight aluminum, these steps weigh 10-20% less than most OE and aftermarket running boards to help you maximize your F-150's fuel economy.

Installation. These Automatic Running Boards feature a secure frame mounted installation. The necessary hardware and components are included but additional wiring and splicing is required. We recommend seeking a professional installation with a certified mechanic in effort to keep your warranty in tact.

3 2011 Lariat - Doug Installation Time: Afternoon

        Newly Installed yesterday

Well...Not as impressed as I though I would be. Installation is a bear to wire in to the lower kick panel on passenger side. If you are installing yourself by the plug and play, pay a little extra and save yourself a headache. Secondly I was sent on older wire harness with a newer control module and the plugs do not match. Control module has a 16 pin and an 8 pin plug. The harness has a 16 pin and a 2 pin plug. Why would this not have been caught before shipping? Also noticed that the front side of the steps sag lower than the rear when closed due to the motor only being on one end and that is the rear that is tight. fit from boards to brackets not great either! They function and look good enough but don't nitpick or you will be disappointed. So in short I expected better from reading other reviews.

        5 2009 - kneedeep

Just as I've come to expect.

Install was quick and easy, I know my way around a toolbox. Have had these on my Super Duty for about 5 years, my dad's F150 for about 2 years, and now my wife's F150. Took about 3 hours in total, taking my time. I opted for the splice in and not the plug and play. It's only 4 wires that take 10 minutes to splice and the cost difference isn't justified for a plug in my opinion. The easy taps make for a seamless undamaging splice too. If you ever needed to, removal would be a cinch. Really cleans up the look of the truck when retracted. I've always hated a lifted truck with steps or nerf bars hanging down all the time, just ugly. The puddle lamps are LED and plenty bright to light the way when the doors open. The stay down feature is nice too when washing, so you can get to the roof without climbing up the back. I like em, that's why I've outfitted 3 rigs with em over the years. You won't be disappointed.

whats the difference between this andthe "plug-n-play" version?

      • The Amp Research PowerStep Running Boards will require tapping into the door wiring in order to get a door signal for deploying and retracting the steps, as well as wiring in for power and ground. The Plug-n-Play" version will still require you to wire up for power and ground, however you will not need to tie into the door wiring at the body control module due to the included OBDII connector that will source this signal.

The other item's page says "The PowerStep XL is 3” lower than the original PowerStep". So what is the total distance when deployed from the underside of the rocker panel to the top of the running board. With my lift and larger tires and rims, want to be sure if these will work or should I get the XL. Nowhere in the tech specs does it say. Not even on the Amp Research website. There is a good installation guide on their site however. Thanks!

      • It is recommended to contact the manufacturer for these specs.

how to turn them off or on if the door isn't activated. they are stuck out. the XLT doesn't have a setting in the instrument cluster to change this. is there a switch somewhere?

      • These will open and closed based off of the door switch. You would need to add a manual switch to activate these manually.
