whats the difference between this andthe "plug-n-play" version?
The Amp Research PowerStep Running Boards will require tapping into the door wiring in order to get a door signal for deploying and retracting the steps, as well as wiring in for power and ground. The Plug-n-Play" version will still require you to wire up for power and ground, however you will not need to tie into the door wiring at the body control module due to the included OBDII connector that will source this signal.
Are these lighted for night time deployment?
The Amp Research PowerStep Running Boards are not lighted.

Just as I've come to expect.
Install was quick and easy, I know my way around a toolbox. Have had these on my Super Duty for about 5 years, my dad's F150 for about 2 years, and now my wife's F150. Took about 3 hours in total, taking my time. I opted for the splice in and not the plug and play. It's only 4 wires that take 10 minutes to splice and the cost difference isn't justified for a plug in my opinion. The easy taps make for a seamless undamaging splice too. If you ever needed to, removal would be a cinch. Really cleans up the look of the truck when retracted. I've always hated a lifted truck with steps or nerf bars hanging down all the time, just ugly. The puddle lamps are LED and plenty bright to light the way when the doors open. The stay down feature is nice too when washing, so you can get to the roof without climbing up the back. I like em, that's why I've outfitted 3 rigs with em over the years. You won't be disappointed.
