Noah: Hey guys, Noah from AmericanTrucks here, and in front of me I have a set of LED Tail Lights with Black Housings and Smoked Lenses for the 2007 to 2013 Silverado 1500. The tail lights can be pretty boring from the factory, so if you're looking to change it up a little bit with a set of really dark tail lights and some super bright LEDs, then these guys are going to be a perfect choice for you to consider.Probably the thing that stands out the most about these tail lights right off the bat is that they're tinted really dark. Now there aren't any light bars or anything in the housing of these guys. They're just gonna be really, really dark and really sleek with a flat design. Now the brake lights are individual LEDs inside that make up a vertical strip, and those take up most of the real estate inside the housing. And then lastly, the reverse lights are here at the bottom and they're white. Now like I said, these lenses are tinted pretty heavily, and then behind that we do have a black housing as well, which creates altogether a really dark look that blends in with black paint and gives a really awesome contrast with lighter color paint. The black housings are manufactured from an OEM-grade and heat-resistant automotive plastic, and all those LEDs inside are covered by a clear lens, which is made from impact-resistant polycarbonate that's weather-sealed so your tail lights are protected from any moisture or debris that could try to work themselves inside. So these guys come in around $260. They're gonna be a great choice if you're on the hunt for a darker look for your Silverado, but you don't have an overly large budget. Now even though they're at the low end of the price range, these tail lights are LED, which is something that you don't see very often. LEDs are typically what raises the price of aftermarket lighting, so I'd say these are a good choice if you're looking for something really dark, but budget-friendly.We're looking at an install difficulty of one out of three wrenches in about an hour for the time it should take you. Now getting these tail lights on your Silverado is going to be a simple job that can be accomplished with minimal hand tools and no busted knuckles. Let's take a more in-depth look at that install process over in our shop.Man: The tools you'll need for this project are a number two Phillips screwdriver, a trim removal tool and possibly a 13-millimeter socket. Hi, everyone, today we're installing a set of tail lights on our Silverado, but first let's watch a short video on how to uninstall the stock tail lights.Woman: All right, so the first step in our install with the tailgate down, we're gonna remove both Phillips head screws on the inside of our tail light. All right, so with a Phillips head screwdriver or we're just using this Phillips head bit just to make it a little bit faster, go ahead and remove both of these bolts. With both the bolts removed, go ahead and grab your tail light and pull straight forward. Once the tail light is released from these two pins at the back here, you can see each of these bulbs you have to twist to remove. Go ahead and grab the connectors and twist and remove each bulb at a time.Man: Now before we install our new light, there's a couple things we need to go over. One, you'll notice that the new light only has two sockets for the light bulbs, whereas the factory has three lights. So one of those we're not going to use, we're just going to remove the bulb and attach a kit included cap for it. So that'll help keep it from being damaged by the elements or whatever when you install this. And the other thing we're going to have to notice is that the reverse light has moved from the center location to the bottom. So we're going to have to rearrange the harness itself to fit into the new light. And one other thing is these new retainers that are on the back of the light. Now you can either use them and install them into the truck, which means you'll have to uninstall the old ones first. And to uninstall these retaining clips on the truck itself, one way that you can remove those from the truck is by using a 13-millimeter socket. And what you're going to do from behind the fender, which you can access it from below, is reach up there with your 13-millimeter socket, slide it over the end of the retaining clip and screw it in until it bottoms out. Once it does that, then you can use a trim removal tool or a flathead screwdriver and get behind the lip of the retaining clip and pull it out. And then you'll have to remove these as well to insert them into the truck before you actually put the light in. Now to remove those, what you're going to do is take something like your trim removal tool or a flat head screwdriver and you're going to place it right under the lip of this retaining clip and above the nut that it's sitting on. Once you do that, then you can just pop that off and then you can go ahead and insert it into the truck. Now, we're going to use the ones that are already in there because they're in pretty good condition, but let's go ahead and get these clips removed. So we'll go ahead and slip our trim removal tool underneath the lip of the retainer and then you can just pop it off.Now let's deal with the light bulbs. So as you can see on our factory harness here, we've got one light at the bottom, one in the middle, and one at the top. The top one we're actually going to use as the brake and running light for the new light, but we're not going to use the bulb, we're just going to use the socket. So we'll go ahead and remove that bulb simply by squeezing on it and gently pulling it out. Now the bottom one, that's the one we're not going to use. So we'll go ahead and remove that plug, that light bulb as well. And then like I said, the system comes with these caps that you can put on over the studs on the outside of the socket here. You just push it on over the studs and twist it to lock. And then they also include a cap to go on top of that. Now you may want to consider putting some silicone along the seam here where the cap goes in just to make sure that nothing gets inside there. Now that we've got that done, we can go ahead and install those into the light and then get our light installed. So we'll go ahead and take our reverse light, put it into the bottom plug here. Twist it clockwise until it locks. And then for our brake and running lights, we have a plug here that's from the light itself. So we're just going to plug that in where the light bulb would go on the original harness. The only thing you really want to make sure of is that the black ground wire on the light plug and the black ground wire on the harness are matched up. So we'll go ahead and make sure that the black goes to the black. And then we'll feed the wires back inside the light and insert the socket and twist it 'til it locks as well. Now we'll go ahead and insert our light with the studs in our retaining clips. And now we'll insert our hardware and get it secured down. Now we'll go ahead and secure our light using the original hardware. And now you can repeat this whole process for the other side. And that wraps up our review and install of our LED Tail Lights with the Black Housing and Smoked Lens for your '07 to '13 Silverado 1500. Thanks for watching and remember, for all things Silverado, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
