Hey, guys. Adam here with americantrucks.com. Today we're taking a closer look at and installing the Morimoto XB LED Tail Lights in Red, available for the 2015 to 2017 F-150s without the blind spot indicator system. Now, if you have an F-150 without the BLIS system, you might be in the market for something that replaces your factory tail lights that are a little boring, very played out, very common on the road, right? You might be looking to pick up something on the complete opposite side of the spectrum, something extremely loud, in your face, very unique, and an LED upgrade in order to give you a brighter, more attractive lighting finish at the rear end.Now the Morimoto option here, again, fits every aspect of the description I just mentioned. It is completely far out as far as the design, very unique. It's got two duel squares, top and bottom here, both giving you your brake light running lights. There's lighting on the side, striped pattern. It also has a red interior finish. And again, I'll take you through all the details with that comparing it to the factory option in just a little bit. Just know that these things are really, really far out as far as the design and appearance. They do have a twin out there in the category in a black finish, something a little more stealthy, a little smoked if you're looking for something a little more subtle. But for the guys looking to go a little bit louder, the red option here is a good choice. Now, of course, most of you guys out there might not have the race red option that we have here on our F-150. But if you are rocking a race red truck, they really blend in pretty well with that paint. I think that's worth noting. Whereas the black ones would contrast a little bit more. So it all depends on your personal preference there. Now reverse lights are built-in, hazards, turn signals, everything to keep it DOT-compliant. It's 50 state legal. It's DOT-compliant. You don't have to worry about, you know, getting pulled over with these, they are street legal. The entire kit comes in at just under the $500 mark, and the install's getting one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Construction wise, it's all OEM quality materials. They are more energy efficient, so they're gonna use about 1/10 of the amount of power as your factory options. The LEDs are gonna be a lot brighter than your factory bulbs, that's just the known fact. So with that price tag, you're getting very, very good quality lighting. The install I'm gonna take you through step by step starting with the uninstall of our factory options. It'll take you about 30 minutes from start to finish. Simple hand tools like a ratchet, or an impact gun, and an eight-millimeter socket will do the trick. Let's get started.Tools used in this install include an impact gun and an eight-millimeter socket. Now the first step of the uninstall is grab and eight-millimeter socket. I'm going to use an impact gun, but a ratchet does the trick as well. There's two bolts holding your tail light on to the inside of your tailgate. So once you get that out of the way, gonna remove one right up here and one down at the bottom. Now we can set that aside. From here just gonna pull and work the tail light back out. Now it basically has these plastic pushpin clips that are holding it in from the back. So you might have to work it, you know, up and down, back and forth, pull straight back. It's these plastic clips that lodge right into an open hole. So don't be afraid to break them, they'll pull straight back as long as you don't go side to side. So once you have that taken care of, basically what we're gonna do, pinch the connectors and disconnect them from the factory bulb. From here, can set our tail light aside. So we got our factory light off of our 2015 F-150 sitting next to our Morimoto LED option. Now as far as design goes, everything is a complete night and day difference. There's absolutely nothing being kept the same as far as design goes. Now, before we jump into the actual design of it, let's talk about the materials and construction, get that out of the way, right? The entire housing here is made from an ABS injection-molded thermoplastic, basically the same kind of materials used in the factory option there. The lenses are polycarbonate and they are very, very blocky. Now that's really leading into that design aspect that's completely different. This is very rounded. This has a lot of square, hard edges, a lot of hard bends and turns here. The inside, completely different as well. The factory one is a nice gloss, flashy, reflective red. The new option here, very matte, very doled down, not very glossy, not very reflective as far as the actual backdrop of the housing. It does have some [inaudible 00:04:26] in there, so it does have, you know, some flake to it, but otherwise, not very glossy. The front end here has a top and bottom vortex-style lighting. It's creating that 3D, somewhat trippy design, right? Where it has that infinite tunnel that you can see down to into with the lighting here inside those squares. LED running lights surrounding both of those squares here, that's where you get the brake light, that's where you get some reverse light. It also has reflectors on the side along with these stripes here. Now these aren't actually reflectors, those are lights as well. They'll light up with the brake lights, your turn signals will flash here. So it is pretty unique in the way that these are designed. If you're looking for something crazy, off the deep end, something that is completely different from every other truck on the street, this is gonna be the way to go. Let's set our factory tail light aside and get the work. All right, at this point we have it laid face down. Just make sure you're not scratching or damaging any of the lenses there. Grab your connectors, figure out which one is basically gonna, you know, line up properly. We're gonna line these up, snap them together. So it's not this one, we're gonna swap over to this. They snap right into place. Do that to both. Once you have those connected, grab your tail light. We're basically going to put our wiring into place, tucking it in to the position it was in when we took it off. Line up the back parts with the open hole. Do the same for the front. Once you push this back in a position, grab your your factory screws, reinsert them through the open hole. Grab your eight-millimeter socket and tighten these down. All right, repeat for the other side and you're good to go.Well, guys, if you're looking to switch out your factory tail lights, check out the Morimoto XB LED Tail Lights in Red available for 2015 to 2017 F-150 without the blind spot indicator system.
