Merideth: If you're looking for a set of headlights that won't completely break the bank but will give your 2006 to 2008 RAM 1500 a more premium appearance to the front end, this set of Raxiom Axial Series LED DRL Projector Headlights with the Black Housing and the Clear Lens will be a great set to check out. Now, headlights are always a fantastic way to bring the front end of your RAM back to life, and this set will do just that by modernizing the front end with that LED accent lighting while keeping it very stealthy for those more aggressive builds. These will also be a great compromise if you don't want to completely blow your budget on a very premium set, but you want that premium appearance and great function out of a new set of headlights. Now breaking down this set of lights, as you can see, again, this is going to take that stealthier approach than stock with the matte black housing and adding a really nice contrast to the front while also keeping that clear lens to achieve a stealthy look but maintain great lighting performance. Now, the star of the show here is that bright white C-shaped running light bar that's going to add that modern feel to the front and really elevate the look of the RAM. And the high and low beam will have more of the stock appearance because they are going to be halogen bulbs, but the performance will get a bump up with the updated reflector and included high and low beam bulbs making sure that you're able to see better while you're driving at night. This set will have a solid construction for a set of lights with an ABS black plastic housing, which will be tough and offer a factory-like fit when it comes to the mounting locations on the back. And again, offering that sleek matte black look on the inside with some pretty cool details. Now, the lens on the front is also going to offer some resilience with a clear polycarbonate construction, so you won't have to worry about any kick-up or anything else on the street, or if you're taking your truck off-road from anything potentially contacting the lens, these are gonna hold up very well. This kit will also come with a new H13 high and low beam bulb and the turn single bulb, so you don't have to swap over any of your original lighting from your factory headlights. Now, these will also require a little bit of wiring when it comes to install. However, it is going to be pretty simple, and we'll show you how to do that in just a minute. Now, these are gonna come in at roughly $400, being right in the middle of the road for a set of headlights. Again, these are gonna offer a great compromise with some premium features while not going completely over the top, which will elevate the look and function of your RAM, but it's not gonna completely drain your wallet, which in my opinion, that's a great quality to have. Now, the design alone is going to offer a substantial improvement, so pairing the look with an update in lighting performance is, again, a no-brainer in my book.Installing is gonna be a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. Like I said, there is a little bit of wiring, but it's incredibly simple, so no need to be intimidated. It'll probably take you about an hour to get the job done. Now, at this point, we can head out to our RAM and check out a detailed breakdown on how to get this onto yours at home. So, that's gonna wrap it up for me. Let's go ahead and get into the install.Man: The tools you'll need for this project are a ratchet, a short extension, a 10-millimeter socket, a pair of wire strippers and crimpers, and a pair of pliers. And you'll also need to source some T-taps and some spade bits. Hi, everyone. Today, we're installing a set of headlights on our RAM. But first, let's watch a short video on how to uninstall the stock headlights.Sara: Okay. So, the first step in our install is gonna be to pop the hood so we can gain access to the front bolts on our headlights. Okay. Now that we have access to our bolts using our 10-millimeter socket, we can go ahead and loosen them up.So, the third point on our headlight that attaches to the truck is a nut inside the wheel well. We have taken our inner fender liner out to give you guys a better shot at it. You do not have to if you don't want to. There should be a small sight hole so you can get extension and a socket in on this. So, grab your 10-millimeter socket, and we're going to go ahead and loosen this up. Ours is a little bit rusty, so we did spray it with P'B Blaster. You might want to do so depending on how yours looks as well. Now that we have all of our bolts out, we can go ahead and pull the headlight out. There are two tabs at the back, you're gonna wanna just gently pull straight out so that you don't break them. Once our headlight is out, we can disconnect the wiring harness with both of these tabs here. You wanna pull back on a red tab at the top of this green connector, push down and pull back. This tan connector, you just push down here and pull out.Man: All right. Before we can install our new headlight, there's a couple of things we need to take care of. One is you'll notice on the back of the headlight it's got a couple of wires, a black wire, and a gray wire. These need to be hooked up to your parking light harness that's already on the vehicle. So, to do that, what we're gonna do is we're gonna put on a couple of spade bits on the ends of these wires here, and then we're going to find our wires in the harness that we need to connect to and use these T-taps that will allow us to connect our new lights. Now, if you've never used these T-taps before they're really simple to use and they're great for hooking up your extra wires. And to use them, assuming that this, of course, is the harness wire on the truck, what you're going to do is place this wire on the plastic side without the metal blade. Go ahead and close it up, and then using a pair of pliers, go ahead and squeeze it together until it locks into place on the other end. Once you do that, it's locked firmly in place and then you can insert your spade bit on the side here. So, doing that will take care of allowing us to tap into the wires to get our headlights to work.So now we'll just go ahead and strip off about half an inch of the insulation on our wires. And we'll twist them together. Make sure they don't fray when we insert them into our spade bit. And we'll just slip that inside our spade bit like so. Use our crimping pliers to go ahead and lock it in, and then just give it a little tug to make sure that it's tight and secure. All right. Once we've got that done, now we can go ahead and get this installed in our truck. Now, you notice our wiring harness has a different connector on it than the T-Taps that I just showed you. That's because our truck has been through several modifications and several headlights that we've installed, so we're just a little bit different here. But using the process that I showed you with the T-Taps will work just as well. And the harness that you're going to want to tap into is the harness that has the ground or tan connector on it. And what we're going to do is we're going to use the black wire on the outside and then the white wire that's in the center port of the connector. So, we're going to tap into those two. Once we've got that done, then we can go ahead and install our light. So we'll go ahead and hook up the two wires that we just put our spade connectors on, go ahead and plug those in. Now we can go ahead and attach our parking light connector to the back of the light. Connect our headlight connector. Once you get that pushed in, make sure you push in the red locking tab as well, and then we can go ahead and insert it into its original location. And once you've got that back in place, we'll go ahead and secure it with the original hardware, and we'll tighten them down with our 10-millimeter socket. Now don't forget to put your 10-millimeter nut on the stud behind inside the wheel well here. Now, since it's a little difficult to get the camera in there to be able to show you this, I'll just tell you where it's at because you already know because you took it out in the first place, but this is where you're going to go ahead and put that in, right inside the fender well here. And then you can repeat this whole process for the other side. And that wraps up our review and install of the Raxiom Axial Series LED DRL Projector Headlights with Black Housing and Clear Lens for the '06 to '08 RAM 1500. Thanks for watching. And remember, for all things RAM, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
