Understanding Your RAM’s EGR Valve. The EGR Valve is a critical component of your RAM’s emissions system. This valve introduces exhaust gasses back into the intake tract to be burned once more in the cylinders. The EGR system serves 2 major purposes: the first is to cut tailpipe emissions, using unburnt fuel found in the exhaust to fuel another round of combustion. The second purpose is to make up for the lack of lead in modern fuel supplies, slightly inhibiting combustion and lowering the temperatures within the engine to prevent excess cylinder pressure and damage.
