Hey, guys, Adam here with americantrucks.com, and today we're taking a closer look at and installing the HDX Xtreme Nerf Side Step Bars in the Textured Black Finish, available for the 2019 and newer RAM 1500. You should be checking these out if you're looking for a more durable, sturdy or even bulkier side step, one that combines characteristics from a running board and a drop step to give you this nerf step that gives you a really easy access point to your RAM, whether it's lifted or completely stock. Now, this one here is made from a full one-piece heavy-duty stainless steel, and it's got enlarged stepping pads. Now, those stepping pads themselves have raised grooves all over along with weather channels to help make sure of two things, one, you get a slip-resistant pad year round, and those channels themselves help water, snow, and ice escape from the pad itself to keep it slip-resistant. It's a very heavy-duty, really durable ABS plastic. The rest of the step there is a textured black stainless steel. Now, the textured black there is not only gonna give it that stealthier look, but it's adding to its corrosion and rust resistance. Now, in a category that's absolutely saturated with tons and tons of designs, this one's gonna be great for the guys who like the drop step look but still want the entire bar to really hug the rocker panel. Drop steps are typically just stepping pads that drop down a lot lower than a typical running board or side step to give you easier access to the cabin. Running boards, however, are one-piece steps that go the entire length of your door frame. It goes from the front wheel well to right behind that rear passenger door. This one here combines the two so you get the best of both worlds. Being that heavier-duty step, it is gonna be able to take a beating from on and off-road obstacles. I will say, however, side steps typically don't double as armor per se, but it will protect your vehicle from door dings in the parking lot and if you were to high-center over some of the smaller obstacles you would hit on and off-road again. Now, the price tag for this one comes in right around 600 bucks. It is a little bit more expensive than some of the entry-level options but because it is a little bit more durable and it's got more to offer than some of the entry-level options like a traditional factory replacement, for example. Now, the install, I'm giving one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. You can tackle it in about an hour or so from start to finish. Very simple hand tools will get the job done, and I'm gonna show you guys every step of that process. What we do on the driver side here, you're just gonna repeat for the passenger. What do you say we get started? Tools used in the install include an impact gun, extension, ratchet, 13-millimeter swivel and deep socket. Obviously, if your RAM came with side steps, you wanna uninstall them first. But once your factory side steps are out of the way if you had them, we have to assemble our brackets on our table here. Now, there are two different kinds of brackets. For the driver side, we have the front and the rear bracket. And then we have a separate one for the center, which just has a little bit of a different bracket at the top end there because the center stud is gonna be offset in the middle. What we have to do is attach this mounting bracket right to the center there using our T-bolts. And we have a couple of nuts and washers to tighten those down. Grab a 13 socket, and let's attach them on the table. All right, so you wanna start with the bracket facedown like that. This bracket here, you want the lip to be on top, and it's gonna hug that centerpiece there. Grab the bolt. Put it straight through the front like that. It will slot into that square hole. Next, you wanna drop on a flat washer, split washer and the 13-millimeter nut. All right, from there, grab your 13 socket and tighten that down. Now, we're gonna do that for the rest of the brackets. Now, like I said, the center bracket here is a little bit different, so it doesn't really stand up on its own. But you're basically gonna follow that same process. You just may need to hold it up like that. Flat washer, split and the nut. All right, repeat that for the passenger side as well, and now we can install on the truck. Starting off on our driver side, we have the truck lifted, you can also just crawl under it in the driveway at home, really simple. We're gonna start here at the rear of the vehicle. We're gonna mount this bracket, the rear bracket, on the three studs on the rocker panel and pinch weld. I'm gonna follow it up with a washer, split washer, and a nut. I'm gonna do the same thing for all three studs. Okay, and the last one just on the other side. Once you have these three mounted, you wanna grab your 13 socket, whether it be on a ratchet or an impact gun, and tighten them down. For the rear of the vehicle, we can fit this impact gun up here, so I'm gonna use that. All right, now we can move on to the center. For the center, same process, just the top stud is in the middle instead of offset to the side, hook that guy on there, put a flat washer, split and the nut. Now, we can move on to the front. All right, for this top one, we do have to switch over to our ratchet just because it is a tight space. All right, with the helping hand of a friend if you're using a lift to feed that guy on. It's a little bit easier to do by yourself if you're on the ground and line it up to the brackets.Next step, I'm gonna take one of our bolts along with a split and flat washer and go up through the bottom to tighten it down to the bracket we installed on our rocker panel. Keep in mind, guys, the entire thing is powder coated, so it may be a little bit rough getting it to thread in. Now, we can head up into the top. All right, so now we're doing the other side of that bracket, which is on the inside of the rocker panel. The center bracket is mounted to the inside. So, you wanna grab your bolt, put your hand in here, and this is a tight space. You're just gonna thread these guys in by hand and then tighten them down. I'm gonna suggest using a swivel 13 socket just to get into that tight space a little easier. You might wanna grab an extension for the one that's farther in. The forward one, we're just gonna mount to the top hole, and then you can tighten that down. All right, repeat on the other side, and you're good to go.
