An aftermarket cat-back for your 1997-2003 Ford Ford F-150 will be of a much superior design over stock. The factory system simply has too many non-optimized bends (sharp bends, varying radii) which, while functional, are not conducive to the passage of exhaust from a performance perspective. Aftermarket cat-backs do away with this restriction by using stainless steel (for maximum longevity), all mandrel-bent tubing throughout their length. With consistent radii and a minimal amount of turns, less effort is required by the engine to push the exhaust out and instead is redirected to the wheels. Furthermore, aftermarket cat-backs feature a variety of mufflers, that one, flow easier, and two, sound much, much better. 1997-2003 Ford F-150's do come equipped with a V8 after all, and there is no better way to make it known than by installing a great sounding cat-back exhaust kit. A good compliment to any cat-back system would be replacing the stock headers with a set of aftermarket Ford F-150 Headers.
