This filter is mounted near the gas tank underneath the bed and acts as the first line of defense by removing any moisture and sediment. If you the Cummins engine to last as long as possible, fuel filters should be considered a regular service item.

Pleated Paper Filtration Element. A fuel filter is typically made of pleated paper that can easily catch dirt and other contaminants in the fuel. The reason for the pleated paper is so that it can have a larger surface area to also increase the flow rate. Proper filtration is an important feature because diesel fuel injectors operate at a much higher pressure than their gasoline counterparts. Externally, the durable metal shell ensures a durable construction that will stand up to all driving conditions.

Changed In 20 Minutes. A RAM 2500 fuel filter is easy to install and can be attempted by anyone. The first step is to remove the old filter. Some fuel will come out, so have a pan to catch it in. This can be done by turning the filter counterclockwise. Once it is removed, the new filter can be installed by reversing the process. We recommend getting it hand-tight plus a quarter turn with a wrench.

Replace It Every 10,000-25,000 Miles. Cummins engines are renowned for their reliability. To keep it running like new, American Trucks recommends the fuel filter be replaced every 10,000-25,000 miles. Your driving style, and how the truck is used will have a big impact on how often the filter should be replaced. Oftentimes, the fuel filter is forgotten and ends up causing major problems such as fuel injector damage, which can be an expensive fix.
