      Video Review & Installation

Hey guys, Joe from AmericanTrucks. And today we're gonna be working with the Barricade Extreme HD Front Bumper with LED Fog Lights, fitting all '19 and newer RAM 1500s excluding the Rebel models. Now this is going to be a great bumper for the RAM owner out there that's looking for aggressive stealthy styling, off-road durability with included LED lights all at a reasonable price. So, what do we have here with the Extreme HD? Well, this is made out of 5/32 inch steel plate. It's finished in that awesome black powder coating which is not just there to add to the looks, albeit if you were going for the blackout look on your truck, this thing is going to fit in perfectly but that powder coat is also there to serve as a layer of protection from the elements. So, I'm pretty fond of the styling on this one, I have to admit my biases here. This thing definitely looks the part but does it have the capability and durability to back that up? Well, the steel is going to be great no matter what. That's going to be able to take a hit and protect your truck from any impacts on the trail but this was designed with off-roading in mind. If you take a look at the sides here, these things taper up pretty good which is going to improve your approach angle, exactly what you want to get that tire on an obstacle that you're going over whether you're on the trail or at the worksite. So, approach angle, durability and looks are all great but this thing goes above and beyond. It's going to bring even more utility to the front of your truck with the inclusion of the two three inch five watt Cree LED cube lights. They're completely plug and play. They throw a nice 6000k beam which is gonna be a bright white, very, very slightly toward the blue side. They have an aluminum housing and a polycarbonate lens and they're IP67 rated which means they're gonna be able to withstand up to a meter of water for 30 minutes, more abuse than they should ever see on the front of your truck. Now a lot of the times when we change out a front bumper on the truck, we do lose a lot of features. Not the case with the Extreme HD here. Not only can you go above and beyond with this whole right here, this is intended for up to a 20-inch light bar, brackets and all the hardware you need are included to mount that up. However, a light bar is not included in this kit so that is going to be your choosing to put in there. You also get to keep a couple factory features of the front bumper as well, namely, a front plate mount is going to be right here and again, the bracket and all the hardware you need to mount those up. You have some cutouts for tow hooks if your truck is optioned and front parking sensors as well. You have six pre-drilled holes all the way across. So if your truck is optioned with that, you can transfer those over and keep that functionality as well. So, next we're going to talk about pricing here and this, with the included LED lights, is going to drop in right around the $700 mark and for all the benefits you're getting here, that is going to be one heck of a deal. A lot of utility. A lot of features. This thing looks good on the front of the RAM too so definitely money well spent. However, if you were looking to save a couple bucks, you'd say there are around 50 bucks if you got this without the included LED lights. That's gonna drop in right around the $650 point. So, next up, let's talk about install and before we move on to that, I did wanna make a quick note here. This is only intended to fit the brand-new fifth generation RAM 2019 and up. If you have a fourth gen, so that would be the 2019 RAM Classic, this is not going to fit your truck. But with that said, this is going to be an easy install. I was even surprised with how easy the front bumper comes off the brand new RAM and just how easy it was to get our Barricade on there. No modification. No cutting and the wiring is all plug-and-play. Again, you get a harness with a switch so this is going to be an easy two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. At most, it should take you about two hours to get hooked up to your truck. So, without any further ado, let me show you what tools you'll need and how it's done. Tools required for this install are going to be pretty simple. We're looking at an impact or ratchet, U-joint, extension, this Allen key which does come included in the kit, a basic socket set ranging from 18 millimeters all the way down to eight millimeters and a basic wrench set from 10 millimeters all the way up to 18. Ratcheting wrenches do help a lot as well. So, right off the bat here, you can see our truck is on the lift. I just wanted to say, you don't need a lift to do this. This is definitely extremely easy. We just do that to make it a little bit easier on our camera guy, make sure he can see everything and get you the information that you need to know to do this to your brand new RAM. First step though, we're gonna grab the ratchet eight-millimeter socket. There's five bolts we're going to remove in the wheel well right here. We're gonna get those out of the way and that's going to allow us to remove a plastic wheel well liner that's connected to our front bumper. So, now we have those three out. This piece is loose on our bumper but it's still, kinda, trapped in there. So there's two more we're gonna remove and that should pull right out. And you can see those are slotted so you only need to loosen them up to be able to pull that plastic piece out of the way. Now we're gonna come over to the other side and do the same thing. So, once you got the driver side plastic removed, we can move on to the next step and that's gonna be this master wiring harness. We gotta disconnect that and that'll unplug all the electronics on our bumper. First thing we're gonna do is move this switch from that position right there to the open position and that will allow us to pop open this clamp right here like so, and then if we just keep going with that, it should push the plug apart. Now, next up, we could actually move underneath the bumper here and disconnect this thing from the frame. There's three 18-millimeter nuts that hold this thing on. The one that I have the wrench on right now is a little bit tough to get to it with the impact gun so ratcheting wrench it is but the other two aren't so bad so we should be able to get into those with the socket and extension to remove them and then we're gonna do the same thing for the other side. And just like the other side, we're gonna start at the top with the ratcheting wrench then move to the impact for the last two. Now we're gonna remove the two bolts on the outside. This is the last thing holding on our bumper so you wanna make sure you have a good handle on it before you remove these. Now this bumper is loose so we're just gonna pull it straight back and off the truck. Now, the elephant in the room here as far as looks and a little bit of functionality goes is this active aero dam. This activates over 35 miles an hour. It'll swing down a little bit and provide a little bit of aerodynamic efficiency for the stock bumper. In our case though, this is only gonna get in the way, especially on the end here. This is going to mess with our approach angle and basically, lose all of this area that we just gained with this tapered bumper. So we need to get this out of the way. Couple ways to do that. You could just disconnect the lip here. That's four 10s. Right here, right here and two more on the other side and it'll leave the hinge in place. Or you can remove the 13s that are right here and that'll disconnect the hinge from the frame itself. However, this wire is hardwired so you will have to cut that. We're not gonna do that today. All we're going to do is remove the actual dam itself and remove the hinges by removing those four 10s. And again, this is completely optional. This isn't going to get in the way of your bumper but it will sacrifice some looks and approach angle obviously. So that's one side off. We're just gonna jump over to the other and do the same thing. So, now we have our factory front bumper off of our RAM here. I figured now would be the perfect time to put these two next to each other and point out some of the key differences and improvements that our new Extreme HD bumper is going to be making for our truck. Now the first and most obvious here, it's gonna come in the looks department. We're ditching this factory chrome and plastic, sort of, look for more stealthy and aggressive steel and black powder coat. If you like that sort of thing, it's going to be a huge upgrade in the looks department. The steel is going to be way tougher too so if you plan on doing any off-roading, that is going to be a huge upgrade. Now, speaking about off-roading, this is also going to add some off-road utility as this one comes with the included LED light cubes. So you're gonna be able to throw more light when you're off-road. They're gonna be a huge upgrade over that factory reflector halogen housing on the factory front bumper. So another huge upgrade there. Now, lastly and the biggest difference between these two, you can tell off-roading is going to be a theme here and the Extreme HD is designed with off-roading in mind. With the two next to each other, you could tell just how much more that Extreme HD is going to taper up at the ends. That's going to extremely increase your approach angle here. That's gonna make a huge difference when you're trying to go over stuff, you need to get that front tire on an obstacle to go over it. That is definitely what you want. Lastly here, I did just wanna touch on a couple of similarities and nice features that the Extreme HD allows you to keep. There are pre-drilled holes all over the front of this thing. Most of them are for front parking sensor mounts. So if you have that option, you'll get to keep those and you also have two pre-drilled holes for a front plate mount so you get to keep those factory options as well. So that is going to be pretty much it as far as similarities and differences between these two bumpers go. We still have to do a little bit of prep work before we get the Extreme HD installed onto our RAM. We got to install our mounting brackets over there but first, we're going to head over to the table and work on our LED light tubes and get those installed on our bumper. So we're gonna start our work here with the LED cube lights that are going to need their brackets installed. So we're gonna start by grabbing a bracket. Now this does have a little notch cut out of it. You wanna make sure that is toward the front of the light and once you have that, you can just slide that down in between the cooling fins on the LED light. Now, with that in place, we're just gonna grab a nut here that does come included in the kit and the fins have hexes cut out of them. So if you drop that down like that, the fins will hold that still while we can grab a bolt and come in from the side, go through that bracket and into the nut. Now, once we have that started, again, I'm just gonna make sure the nut is seated in that hex cutout in the fins. We can grab the Allen key included in the kit and we're just gonna snug that up. So now we're just gonna go over to the other side and do the same exact thing. So that's one done. We're just gonna do the same exact thing for this second light over here. And again, we're just gonna grab the bracket, make sure the notch cutout is toward the front of the LED light then we can just drop a nut down the fin and then we can get that bolt in started through the nut and tighten down then we could jump over to the other side of the light and do the same thing. Now one more thing we have to do before these are ready to drop into our bumper here. These 13-millimeter bolts come in the kit. They're just gonna go up through the bracket like so and you can see those brackets have little cutouts here to hold that bolt head still. We're gonna insert this in the bumper and then come down with a 13-millimeter nut and tighten the two together. So to install these, we're just gonna feed the wire through the front of the bumper first and you can see there's this notched hole right here in the honeycomb. That's exactly where you're supposed to put that. We're gonna pull that through and follow up with our cube light and there's a slot at the top. You wanna poke that hole through and once you have that bolt through, you can go ahead and tighten that down with a lock washer and 13-millimeter nut. Then we're gonna come over and do the same thing on the other side. And just like the other side, we're gonna tighten this down with a 13-millimeter wrench. So, now we have our LED light cubes installed on both sides. We need to take care of all of those parking sensor holes. Now, our truck isn't optioned so what we're going to do here is take the rubber plugs and the plastic retaining clips and put those in place and lock them in with the retaining clips. If you did have parking sensors, though, you just have to remove them out of your factory front bumper and then transfer them over but it'll be a similar way. So that's pretty much all we need to do for our bumper today. You might need to do a little bit more, though, depending on whether or not you have a light bar. If you do, you'd use these L shape brackets here to get that and installed and again, all the hardware you need is included in the kit for that. Same thing goes for the front plate mount. You'd use this bracket right here and get that right up front but our state doesn't require that and it kind of messes up it looks a little bit so we're gonna put that aside as well. Now, the next thing we're gonna do is grab up our mounting brackets, head over to our frame rails and get those installed. So, here we are back over by the truck. I have our mounting bracket in hand here. You wanna make sure you grab the right one. It's marked on the back right there with either a D or P. Obviously, this is gonna be the driver side. What we're going to be doing is taking this mounting bracket and putting it up against the frame rail right like that. Couple things to note here. You wanna make sure this gusseted portion is on top and the tab to mount up our bumper is toward the inside of the truck. But once you have that mounted up like so, we're just gonna grab our 18-millimeter hardware and get this installed to the frame rail. Now you do have a little bit of movement here as those holes are slotted, but for right now I'm just gonna take the 18-millimeter socket and wrench and tighten these down. If you need some adjustment later, you can always come back and loosen that up but for now I'm just gonna aim for the center and we should be okay. So, now we're gonna jump over to the passenger side and do the same exact thing. So you can probably tell what the next step is going to be here. We're gonna hold this bumper up to our mounting brackets and we're gonna get the smaller 16-millimeter bolt started. Three holes on each side. Then we're gonna make a little bit of an adjustment and make sure this lines up correctly with our grille and fenders and this bumper will be installed. So we have all of the hardware installed hand-tight. You wanna make sure the bumper is sitting where you want it to be and aligned properly then we can come in and tighten all this down with the 16-millimeter wrench and socket. And again, for this side, just make any adjustments you need and then come in with the socket and wrench to lock it in. So, our bumper on the front of our RAM is finally starting to take shape here. We are gonna have to move on to the wiring, though. Again, completely plug and play here. This is going to be extremely easy. We're gonna pop the hood and take care of that right now. So, the first thing we're going to do here is mount up our relay and this applies for all the wiring here. It's really up to you how you wanna do this. Good rules to keep in mind, keep this stuff away from any hot or moving parts. And this is plug and play. It's real easy. I'm gonna show you how I would do it here. We're gonna start with the relay like I said. I'm just gonna remove this 10-millimeter bolt on the ground here and this relay doesn't have to go to the ground. Usually, that's just an easy spot to put it. So, again, I'm gonna remove the nut, slide the relay on and then reinstall. So we're gonna keep the 10-millimeter socket on the gun here and remove the nuts on our battery terminals and again, install these contacts underneath of those nuts. Red is positive. Black is negative. Pretty self-explanatory here. So that's positive done. We're just gonna come over to the negative and do the same thing. Now, I'm just gonna take our plug-and-play ends of the wiring here and feed these down. Good spot. Again, away from any hot or moving parts, right behind the fuse box right in front of the battery is where I'm gonna go. That's looking pretty good. So one more thing left for us to do and that is our switch. Now we need to get this into the cab of our truck and the easiest way I found to do that is to take this and push in a grommet that's way deep down here behind the battery then we're gonna push the switch through that, pull it through on the other side and then reinstall that grommet. This is going to be a little bit hard to see here but it's really up to you wherever you wanna put this. You can get the general gist of where I'm gonna put it just by this top view right here. And we're just gonna pull through our switch here and there is a lot of slack on this. I'm not gonna pull it all the way through. You can mount this wherever you want and it's got that adhesive back there so it makes it real easy. Easiest spot I found is right on this flat piece of plastic right there. So, now we can come underneath and plug in the fog lights with these plug-and-play connectors. This is where they're both going and come out at. I already have one going over the frame rails over to the passenger side so we could plug that one in. This is gonna be pretty simple. We're just gonna grab the back of our fog light wire, put the two together. Should hear them click together. And then as far as all this wire goes, I'm just gonna coil it up and tuck it away but the kit does include some zip ties for you to wire manage that and make it nice and neat. Now we're just gonna go over to the other side and do the same thing. And guys, that's gonna do it for me and the Barricade Extreme HD Front Bumper with LED Fog Lights, fitting all 2019 and newer RAM 1500s, excluding the Rebel models. Thank you for watching. I'm Joe.
