      Video Review & Installation

So if you own an '09 to '18 Quad or Crew Cab Ram 1500 and you want to make getting in and out of the cab a little bit easier, especially if your truck is lifted like ours, then a nice set of side steps is obviously the way to go. But why these in particular? Well these are Barricade's Pinnacle T4 oval bent end side step bars with this really nice black powder coat finish. Now these are the steps that you should be checking out if you're looking for one of the most affordable four-inch wide steps that's made out of stainless steel that also has a black powder coat finish. And I say that because at around the $200 price point any other steps that are gonna cost less than these are gonna have a smaller stepping area or they're gonna have a basic painted or polished finish and they're typically going to be made out of carbon steel instead of stainless steel. And that's an important factor to consider if you're going to keep these steps on your truck for a long time and if you live in an area where you see a lot of rain or snow or if you take your truck off-road because over time you will start to see signs of rust and corrosion develop on your side steps, it's just a fact of life. Obviously you got your wheels up here spitting all that crud up. And over time some of those side steps might start looking a little worse for wear. But I really like the way Barricade went about building these. Small little detail that you might have not noticed is that the oval bent ends on here are actually capped and they're welded as one piece. So this is actually fully enclosed and sealed off. So you're never gonna get any moisture inside of the step itself and that's typically where you see some of that rust developing on other side steps where you start to see the finish peeling off or bubbling underneath. That's not gonna be a worry with these steps in particular. So again these steps are really great if you do live in an area where you see a lot of wet conditions or, again, if you ever go off-road. And even though these are very affordable, they're very well built. They're also a bolt-on application. There's no cutting or drilling required. They took the time to design the brackets themselves so that they line up with all the pre-drilled holes inside the rocker panel and the pinch seam. And on that note these do have a pretty high weight rating from my experience. They don't give any official numbers but I do like the way that they mount these to the truck. You actually have a primary bracket here and you also have a hidden secondary bracket tucked up under here that connects to the pinch seam. That makes the brackets way stronger and a lot more rigid. So even if you have passengers on both of the steps these things aren't gonna flex and they're not going to crack over time, you're gonna have to worry about these things falling off or anything like that. Couple other things to consider here, we do have a really nice textured grip pad on here. That's gonna be awesome again if it's wet outside or if you got any mud on your work boots. And I like the texture on these, they kind of match your tire tread. And on that note I really like the black finish on here. Everything is matte black. They look cool, they're really simple and understated. These would be a really great aesthetic if you're going for a blackout build or you're investing in any other trim pieces for that matter. Now back to that install real quick. Again, because it's a bolt-on job, very simple. Gonna give a one out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter and you literally only need two wrenches and two sockets to get them installed. Shouldn't take us more than an hour, so this is definitely something you can do at home in the driveway. So again if you're looking for one of the most affordable all stainless steel steps to make getting in and out of your Ram a little bit easier, then Barricade's Pinnacle T4 side steps are gonna be a top choice. And if you decide to go with these steps come back to this video in a little bit, I'll show you exactly what sockets and wrenches you need and I'm gonna walk you through that entire install step by step. All right, guys. Before we get started you're gonna need a standard drive ratchet as well as a 10-millimeter deep socket and wrench and a 13-millimeter deep socket and wrench. Now optional but helpful tools include an impact gun and a magnet in the unfortunate event that any of your brackets fall inside the rocker panel. Okay. So once you've got those socket and wrenches pulled out you're going to grab one of these single bolt plates. Got a stud on one end and you got a threaded nut welded on to the other end. These are gonna be supporting our primary brackets. Now to get these inside of the rocker panel you're gonna grab one of the bolts provided in the kit and you're gonna thread it into that nut portion like so, you're also gonna need one of these plastic retainers and I'll show you guys how to get these in place. All right. So once you got that bolt threaded into the plate you're going to use it as leverage to actually slide the stud through and you're gonna push it through one of these octagon holes. You can do either one. Once you've got that in there, go ahead and seat that using one of these plastic retainers. That's going to prevent it from falling into the truck while you're working. Once that's threaded nice and tight you're gonna remove that bolt so that you can line up that thread at whole later on so we can secure our bracket. All right. Next you're gonna throw your bracket in place and you're gonna grab the stud itself, you're gonna rotate it and use that as leverage so you can line up all those holes. Once you got everything lined up, you're going to go ahead and put that bolt back in place but you're gonna make sure you have a crush washer and a flat washer on there. Then once you got that bolt tightened down you can throw on a flat washer as well as a crush washer and a nut on the stud. All right. Next we're gonna throw on our secondary bracket. Keep in mind that the rear facing bracket is oriented in the opposite direction compared to the center and the front brackets. Go ahead and let the bracket rest against the pinch seam. You're gonna secure this using two flat washers and you're also gonna be using the nyloc nuts in the kit, so you do not need crush washers for these. And once you have that large bolt secured you're gonna grab the smaller bolts in the kit again with two more flat washers and the appropriate sized nyloc nuts. All right. Now that everything is in place we can tighten all this stuff down. For the smaller hardware you're gonna need a 10-millimeter wrench and a 10-millimeter socket. And for this larger hardware, you're gonna need a 13-millimeter socket and wrench. Okay. So as you see, putting on your primary and secondary brackets is very straightforward and if you hadn't guessed it's the same exact process for the rest of the brackets. So go ahead and knock all those out again with your bolt plates, your studs as leverage, the little plastic retainers. Don't forget all the little details. Once you got the rest of your brackets in place I'll meet you guys outside the cab to show you how to get the steps themselves in place. All right. So once you got all your brackets in place you can finally throw the steps on. And guys, this is the easiest part. You're gonna be grabbing these bolts provided in the kit. They're 13-millimeter heads but they have the crush washers and flat washers pre-installed. So go ahead and take the side step, gently rest it on the brackets themselves, line up all the holes, get those bolts in, zip them down that socket and we should be done. All right. So once you got your step bolted down that should wrap up this install, and that also wraps up my review of Barricade's Pinnacle T4 oval bent end side step bars in the black powder coat finish fitting your '09 to '18 Quad and Crew Cab Ram 1500.
