      Video Review & Installation

Justin: If you're looking for great fitting, easy-to-install protection for the hood of that 2019 and newer RAM at home, then you'll wanna consider the Stone and Bug Deflector that we have here today from WeatherTech. Now, this made-in-the-USA hood shield will combine the injection-molded acrylic build with that dark smoked appearance all for right around the $100 price point, and it will get backed by WeatherTech's signature limited lifetime warranty. So the purpose of hood deflects like this is pretty simple, right? Reduce or even eliminate the unsightly paint chips caused by stones, bugs, or other debris while on the road. Now, the reality is, guys, you know the deal, right? If you spend a good amount of time on the highway, your leading edge of your hood will inevitably get a little beat up from tiny stones, getting kicked up by trucks or cars in front of you, and over time, that can really take its toll and just degrade the entire look of your truck. Now, there are a couple of different ways to protect against this. You can go with that OG method of using one of those full cloth or vinyl bras, which let's be honest, really aren't that appealing because oftentimes they're baggy, they don't fit great, and just kind of an eyesore. Your next option, a little bit more modern, and that is the clear vinyl bra. They protect pretty much a lot upfront guys from light impacts, but they can be a bit pricey to get installed. And if they're not done right, they can look a little goofy.Last but not least, you can always check out an option like this which is going to be your traditional stone or bug deflector. And they are gonna be a really good way again to protect that leading edge of your hood and to keep it looking fresh over the years. Now, there are a couple of things I do really dig about these particular options. This option, in particular, from WeatherTech really conforms to that factory hood on this particular generation RAM. Really does look really sleek once installed. Now on top of protecting the front or leading edge of your hood from rock chips, something like this will also greatly reduce the amount of bug splatter or bug guts that you might see on your windshield as the name would suggest, right? Now, on top of that, the WeatherTech here is very low profile when installed. In fact, I really enjoy just how well this thing hugs that factory hood on the 2019 and newer RAMs. Certainly isn't the wind deflects of decades ago, which were basically just a 6-inch piece of vertical Plexiglass really heinous on the front end. That's not the case here, right? This option from WeatherTech, in particular, does fit really well compared to some of the other options that I've seen on the site. And that is evident once you get this thing on the truck for the first time. Now your materials will be pretty standard here as far as wind deflectors or bug deflectors go. And that will again be your injection-molded acrylic, which is then finished off in a dark smoked appearance that's sure to look great and also be very durable at the same time, so much so that WeatherTech does throw their signature lifetime warranty at this thing. We talked about how well it's going to fit the front end. You notice the WeatherTech logo here on the driver's side, guys. That is removable if you wanted to have a nice, clean finish all the way across. I always like to point that kind of stuff out for you.But let's move on into the installation here. And site has this one pegged at a pretty soft one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. Basically going to install using factory holes on the underside of your hood. WeatherTech does kick in some brand new push pins, which will make this very, very simple. So let's call it 10 minutes or so from start to finish. And now to give you a better idea of just how exactly this one will get in place, here's an AT customer to walk you through the job.Man: Okay, guys. So I'm showing you the tools that are required for this installation. You need a grease pen, a Phillips head screwdriver, a cat claw, a knife, and then you could use a power drill if you want. I had to use it at the end for the last one because it was hard to get in in the corner. But you can really get it all done just with the Phillips head screwdriver. And then you just need a cloth with like some cleaning material on it or solution to clean the surfaces for the installation too.So I'm just gonna pop the hood and then we can get to it. So we gotta use this grease pencil to mark which clips that we need to take out and replace. That one. Okay. So once you get them all marked, you can take this off. Okay. Now, we have to use this clip remover or cat claw, and that makes it easy to get these clips right out of here.Okay. Once you get all those removed, then you can put this back on. And we're gonna wipe down this part to put this on. So now we gotta put these plastic clips back in with the Phillips screw. Now I went and got something to stand on because it's kind of hard to put all the force that you need to put into driving these screws in with the truck being so high. Because you really gotta push to get that screw started in there.I'm just checking to make sure that all of them are in there all the way and none of them are just barely in there. So then we can close it to make sure everything is lined up and fits okay. Okay. And then there's one last step, we have to put these little rubber bumpers on. So these go on your hood and it's to protect your hood deflector. If anything pushes this down, it will bump into the little rubber piece. So these go right here in the spots where if something pushed against this, it won't mess up the paint on the truck's hood. Okay. So, now everything's installed on it.Justin: So if you're looking for a premium option to keep unsightly rock chips and bug guts off the front end of that new shiny RAM at home, then you'll wanna check out the WeatherTech option today right here at americantrucks.com.
