Hey, guys. Adam here with americantrucks.com. And today, we're taking a closer look at and of course installing the LED Halo Projector Headlights in the black smoked finish available for the '09 to '18 RAM 1500 without the factory projector headlights. You should be checking these out if you're looking for one of the most popular headlights in the aftermarket headlight category for your RAM 1500, one that's going to give you not only a more modern, brighter, more attractive front end, but one that uses an upgraded LED technology. Now, this particular set has a black smoked finish, which is what I want to touch on first here. Now, it's got a black interior housing, which gives you a nice stealthy aggressive look, but the smoked lens on top of that takes it even further. Now, the smoked lens isn't going to impede too much on the lighting output, specifically being LEDs, brighter LEDs, the lighting output is still sufficient. It uses an aftermarket H1 low beam bulb, which uses a concentrated light beam there to make sure it is exactly where you need it to be without any adjustments. You are going to reuse your high beam bulb, however, right out of your factory housing. Now, this particular set here uses a dual halo light. Now, the halos are basically DRLs or daytime running lights, which you'll splice right into your factory parking light harness. Now, I'll show you guys that once we get to the install, but do know that it is still very straightforward and pretty simple, you will, however, have to pick up separate splice connectors that are not included in the kit if you want to get it done in the same method that I use. Now, the halos there are more of a bluish hue, whereas your headlights are going to be a bright white or a pure white light. Now that bluish hue for the halos is very common with Halo Projector Headlights there. It also uses a couple of extra accent LEDs on the side, which will all splice in together. Now, if you don't like the smoked lens, there is a clear lens option available. And if you're not interested in the black housing, there's also the more traditional chrome or reflective housing out there if you're not really interested in the black housing either. Now, the price tag comes in right around 400 bucks. It does come as a pair and the install gets two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter only because there's a little bit of an extra step there for the splicing. Again, not that difficult to do. If you're not familiar with wiring or you're not comfortable doing it yourself, there's no shame handing it over to a professional to get done properly. It'll take you about an hour from start to finish to knock out both sides. Simple hand tools plus splice connectors are required. Let's get to it.All right. Tools used in this install include an impact gun or a ratchet, 10-millimeter deep socket, recommended would be a 10-millimeter swivel socket but not required, wire strippers, pliers, and some splice connectors, I recommend male and female. All right. First step here, pop your hood. If you have a radiator shroud, take that off now. Our vehicle does not. So we're going to move right on to getting our grille out of the way to expose our headlight bolts. Grab a 10-millimeter socket and remove all four. All right. Get your grille out of the way. Now you can take the two factory bolts off of the headlight, top here and bottom, which was under the grille. All right. Pull straight back on the headlight and then pinch and disconnect the factory harnesses. All right. And you can see a little red locking tab. You can pull up on that, pinch and disconnect. Set these aside. So we've got our factory headlight off the passenger side of our '14 RAM behind me and it's on the table next to our LED Halo Projector light. Let's talk about some similarities and differences. Now, as you can see, there are some huge differences between these two and the one that's going to stand out to you the most is probably the black interior housing and smoked lens aside from the actual design itself. The smoked lens mixed with that black interior housing is going to give you the most stealthy look at the front end that you can possibly get in the category when it comes to swapping from factory chrome over to something a lot more aggressive. Now, inside of that polycarbonate UV resistant lens is an OEM quality housing that's also impact-resistant just like the lens itself. The design on the inside uses two projectors, high and low separately. It's going to come with an H1 low beam bulb in that projector housing surrounded by that LED halo light. Now, the halo light does need to be spliced into your factory parking lights, which really isn't that difficult of a job to do. You are going to need to pick up some quick splice connectors, which you can find at your local auto parts store or a hardware store near you. Now, with that, you'll be able to quickly splice it into your parking lights and that LED halo will light up with your parking lights and also be on it with your headlights. Now, alternatively, you are going to swap over your factory high beam bulb, which is a 9001 bulb. You're going to pop it out of the factory housing and swap it over your new socket on the new LED light. Overall. Very different design, the low beam bulb there that's included in the kit is going to have a much more focused light that's brighter and more attractive and a lot safer. Now, the next step we're going to do here is transfer over those bulbs. We're going to pop off the rubber gasket housing on the outside, put the bulb into the socket, and then we'll be able to transfer the second one and get to the install. All right. So, on the back of your factory headlight, you'll have your high beam on the bottom low beam on the top. Low beam's included, so we don't have to do that, but you do want to come down here to your high beam section. You're basically going to take these two tabs and you're going to twist it counterclockwise to get that to pop off to expose the bulb itself. Twist that guy out of the housing and pull it back and then what you're going to do is just pinch upward to release and swap it over. All right. So, you're also going to have to transfer over the bulb in the corner. You're going to pull and twist that off, and that's going to be your turn signal. We're going to set that aside and come back to that on the new headlights as well. All right. Now, on the back of the new headlight, similar but a little bit different of a design, instead of the plastic twist, it's just a rubber cap there. And you'll see on the back, the plug goes straight into one harness that you're going to pull in a little bit, plug it into your factory high beam bulb, and then twist that bulb into the new socket in there. There you go. Once you have that seated, put that cap back on.All right. Now, you're basically doing the same thing here for the turn signal, just going to slide that guy right into position in the housing, twist it clockwise, and it locks into place. Now, while we're back here, I'm just going to untwist the splice wires that we're going to have to splice together. Now, what I'm going to do is twist together all of our accent LED wires, which will include our halo. There are three blacks and three reds. Blacks are your grounds, reds are your positives. What I'm going to take is some wire strippers and strip back just a little bit more so we have a little bit more wire to work with. So, I'm gonna use our wire strippers here, insert that and just strip away some of the extra black coating there. Do the same thing for the other two. All right. Once you have that stripped away, I'm going to twist all of these wires together. All right. Perfect. So we got our blacks together. Let's do the same thing to all three of our reds. All right. Now, in our truck, we already have our parking light harness tapped into with female splice connectors, so I'm going to put male splice connectors, which you see here, on the two black and red wires. Now, on your vehicle, you won't already have that done, so you'll need to put the females on as well. We'll talk about that when we get back to the truck. For now, I'm going to slide these guys right in place on these connectors. Pinch these guys together a little bit. And once you have that inserted all the way, grab some pliers and you're going to clamp it down. Once it's clamped down, give it a little tug to make sure it's secure. We're going to do that to the black wire as well. And when you're inserting this, you want to make sure it goes all the through so it gets a good connection. Clamp that guy down. And now we're going to head back over to the truck. All right. The first thing we're going to do is take our factory harness and I'm going to plug in the turn signal harness, that leaves us with the headlight harness. Now, as you can see, on our headlight harness, we already have two installed here. These are female-end splice connectors. That's what we're plugging in our accent lights to. And that's where we put the male ends. The males will plug right into that. So, there's a little bit of splicing involved, but really this makes life so much easier. On your truck, of course, you won't have these already in there, we've already done this on previous headlights. Now, what you're going to do is take this harness here that would plug into the headlights. It has a white, black, and red wire, your black and red wires there are going to be your parking lights that you're going to splice the power and grounds to. So what you'll do is similar to what we just did on the table, you're going to cut these wires, feed them in so that it feeds right into a female end just like this. Now, there are other methods, you can use clamp-ons that aren't so involved as this guy, but we're working with what we got here on our truck. So, I'm going to grab the red male end and plug it into the red female end and the same thing for the black. All right. Make sure they're seated all the way in if you're using these kinds of connectors. There's many ways to skin a cat, so you can splice them in however you see fit. Once you have that taken care of, I'm going to plug this harness in that connects the high and low beams to give them power, drop the red locking tab, I'll drop the red locking tab on the other one. And now we can install the headlight. All right. Grab your factory bolt, put it back through. Repeat on the other side. All right. Next up, you can just reinstall your grille and then you'll be good to go. Now, your grille, again, will have four bolts. We are missing two of ours. So, you just want to make sure you're putting in all four of yours. You can see the other one would be here. It's a broken off plastic piece, and then finally, again, at the end, we're broken off as well. Right now you can shut your hood and you're good to go.That's going to wrap up my review and install for the LED Halo Projector Headlights in the black smoked finish available for the '09 to '18 RAM 1500 without factory projector headlights. If you want to pick this up, you can do so right here at americantrucks.com.
