      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. Joe from AmericanTrucks and in this video, we're gonna be going over the Black Halo Projector Headlights, fitting all '09 to '18 RAM 1500s without factory projector headlights. Now, this is gonna be a great option for you if you're looking for a budget-friendly and plug-and-play projector swap that features halos and blackout styling. So, what do we have going on with these headlights? First things first, let's talk a little bit about build quality. These are gonna feature a clear impact resistant polycarbonate lens with the blackout housing underneath. Now, the combo of the two that's gonna give you that smoked look with the blackout housing, clear lens over top that's going to allow all of the light to come through, so you get, sort of, that smoked look without cutting into visibility. These are also going to be DOT-approved for use in all 50 states. We're gonna get this side by side next to the factory stuff in just a second here to really point out the differences. These are going to feature a projector-style setup as far as the light thrown out of these headlights. And in my opinion, they look way better than the stack halogen, high beam, low beam, classic chrome, sort of, look. These are gonna be both your high beam and low beam in just that projector there. And that is going to focus the light exactly where you need it to be. The bolts required to run something like this are also included in the kit, making these completely plug-and-play. You also get a nice Halo ring around that projector, which serves as a nice accent. On the side, we are upgrading our marker lights LED as well, looks a lot better. And then we have our standard reflector right over top of that as well, which serves as a nice little bit of a safety feature. Now, these are gonna come together to give you some nice blackout styling. I think they fit perfectly on the front of our '14 RAM here. However, these are available in chrome if that's more your style.Pricing for these headlights is gonna be right around 400 bucks. Now, considering headlights for this generation RAM go from anywhere about 300 all the way up to 700, some premier options will cost you about 1,200 bucks. These coming in right around that $400 mark puts it a little bit slightly toward the middle, definitely not the most budget-friendly option, however, a cost-effective option nonetheless. Also included in that price will be a 90-day limited warranty. Before we move on to the install here, one thing I do wanna make a quick note about, these are only intended to fit trucks that came out of the factory with the standard halogen headlights. If you have factory projectors, these are not gonna work for you as these are intended to upgrade the factory stuff. Now, with that said, it's gonna make the install really, really easy. Definitely a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, it should take you no longer than an hour if you come with the right tools. So, without any further ado, let me show you what tools you'll need and how it's done.Tools you'll need for this install will include an impact or a ratchet, u-joint or a 10-millimeter wrench, 10-millimeter socket and, last but not least, a trim panel removal tool. All right. So, here we are over by the truck. In order to get the headlights out, we need to get the grille out of here. That's gonna allow us access to the hardware we need access to. And the first thing we're gonna need for that is our trim panel removal tool. We're gonna remove all the pushpins on this plastic radiator cover-up here to get that out of the way. And with all that removed, you can remove that plastic piece. Next, remove the four 10-millimeter bolts holding on the grille. And then just give your grille a firm tug. That should pop right off. Now, the headlight is gonna be held in with these two 10s right here. For the bottom one, it's a little bit tough to get to. You might need to break out the wrench or you can use a u-joint on the impact like I am. And then this one up at the top and then pull forward on the headlight. And it should pop out, allowing you to unplug it. All you need to do there, push the red release tab back and then down on this tab, and that'll pop right off. Same thing goes over here. Now, we're just gonna take our new headlight and plug it in the same exact way. And you can see this has an alignment down on it here. This is what's gonna line it up with the body on our truck. That's gonna meet up with this guy right here. And then you wanna make sure this is tested. At this point, make sure the headlight works. And when it does, all you have to do is reinstall all the hardware and tighten it down. So, now that we have one side completely wrapped up over here on the passenger side, I figured I'd throw the grille back on for you guys so you could see this side by side with the factory stuff over on the driver side. Now, the big story here, it's gonna be chrome versus blackout. Over there, on the driver side, we have that stacked, high beam, low beam reflector setup with that chrome housing. It's definitely gonna be a little bit dated, especially when next to this one. We have a projector over here that's gonna serve for both your high and low beam. Again, the bulb is included in the kit for that and we have a nice accent with that halo around the projector, really nice touch. This one also is gonna upgrade the marker light too, rather than that standard orange halogen bulb over there. This is gonna swap over to LEDs. It goes around the side here and gives you some side marker lights as well. Definitely a huge upgrade when compared to the factory stuff. And just like the factory side, we do have a reflector on top of that just for a little bit of added safety as well. That's gonna be it as far as differences go. I'm gonna pop the screw back off. We can wrap up the driver side and call it a day. That's gonna be the same process. We gotta get these two 10s out of the way then we can pull out the headlights. And once we have our harnesses unplugged, we can go ahead and get our old headlight out of the way and then we can plug in the new one. And we can secure that with our two 10-millimeter bolts. Do a quick test run on that headlight. Once you make sure it works, you can go ahead and pop the grille back on. Secure the grille with the four 10-millimeter bolts. Last but not least, just go ahead and throw that plastic cover back on and secure with the six pushpins. Before we wrap things up here, one thing I do wanna make a quick note about, these might be a little bit out of aim out of the box. If you need to adjust that, you can do so with a Phillips head screwdriver. But that's gonna do it for my review and install of the Black Halo Projector Headlights, fitting all '09 to '18 RAM 1500s without factory projector headlights. As always, guys, thank you for watching. Keep it right here at AmericanTrucks for all things RAM.
