Hey, guys. Adam here with americantrucks.com and today, we're taking a closer look at and installing the Extang Trifecta 2.0 Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover, available for the 2019 and newer Ram 1500. You should be checking this out for your brand new Ram if you're looking for a nice tonneau cover that is extremely easy to use, and isn't some of the more expensive options in the category. The tri-fold design is one of the most common styles of bed covers because it allows you to have access to your bed in three separate sections, and it keeps the affordability a little bit lower. Now, this guy here is made from all high quality materials, and in my opinion, it is one of the easiest to use tri-folds in the category. It may not have all of the bells and whistles of a top-of-the-line $800 option, but for about 400 bucks, you're getting a really good option. This one uses some top quality leather green vinyl on a matte black finish. Underneath of that, there are multiple aluminum slats that allow for some support and added weight distribution throughout the entire tonneau cover, all finished in black. So it looks pretty good under there as well. Now, the clamping system is one of the key things I wanna talk about. You're clamping it up by the bulkhead, which will keep it in place, and then back here by the tailgate. Now, by the bulkhead, they screw into place to really hold tension, but at the tailgate here, it makes it easier to use on a daily basis. It's a good option for people who are using this as a grocery getter, or even guys who are hauling around some tools and lumber. Those clamps here use a spring style system instead of a screw that keeps constant tension on the clamp clamping into your side bed rails. That way, no matter the weather, no matter what time of year, or your location, it's never gonna loosen up. You'll never have to worry about constantly tightening it when it comes to opening and closing. But just clamp it down or unclamp it to open, and they tuck back in really nicely too. So, when you unclamp those, tuck it into the frame, and it's out of the way, and it's not unsightly. Now, when it comes to the tri-fold, you can open it once, one fold to get a third of your bed access, and then fold it back again to the bulkhead. And you can even snap it shut by the bulkhead and drive with it open. Now, the only downside to this style tri-fold here is that you don't get full access to the bed in terms of carrying larger cargo. If you're carrying a really long dresser that's pretty tall, you won't be able to get it up by the bulkhead because the tonneau cover will stop at about a third of the way. So, that's something to keep in mind. If you're looking for something that does give you 100% access to haul around any-sized cargo, you can pay a little bit more money for one that has more bells and whistles. But at the end of the day, this is still a really good option. It comes at right around 400 bucks, like I said. In the install, I'm giving it one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Anyone can tackle this in the driveway at home by themselves in about 15 minutes. You're not installing separate bed rails. It's just two sets of clamps that I just mentioned, and it's as easy as that. Now, those jaw-grip clamps and the spring clamps here are already built in, so there's no assembly. Right out of the box, throw it onto your bed, tighten it down. Again, it'll take 15 minutes, so let's get started. All right. Kicking things off, this is gonna be very, very simple. What we're gonna do is take our tonneau cover as it is right out of the box. So it's folded up like this and snapped shut. Take it just like that and lay it into place on your bulkhead by your rear windshield. We'll unfold it and clamp it down, and we'll call it a day. So, first things first, let's get it into place. Now, when you do this, you wanna line up both sides to approximately where you're gonna want it to be. So, we want this overlapping the bulkhead, we want it fairly even on both sides. From here, let's unsnap it and unfold it. All right. So, from here, unfold it once, unfold it twice, and the goal now is to align it exactly where we're gonna want it. I'm gonna hop down and shut our tailgate. Now, what we're gonna want, we want this weatherstripping to overlap the tailgate itself, and we want each end to, kind of, match up to the roundness of the side bed rails. So, we see that here, you might wanna shuffle this over just a little bit. All right. That's perfect. We're gonna fold it back up, head underneath, and clamp it down. Now, when you fold this up, you don't wanna move it left or right, you just wanna fold it. So be careful not to change its position. Once you get its position down, you want it to stay there. All right. So, we're getting really careful. Perfect. Let's climb underneath and clamp it down.Next up, while we're up by our bulkhead, is to grab the clamp that's tucked up into the aluminum slot. So, we're gonna slide this guy out and bring it down. Now, there's a little plastic clamp here that'll hug this side bed rail. So, we're gonna bring that toward the bed rail, and basically, what we're gonna do is twist this knob and tighten it down just like this so it hugs that bed rail. Let's do that. It's a little tedious. You, kind of, have to rotate it a bunch of times to get it to tighten up, especially if it's all the way toward the bottom. So, just give it a couple of turns, and tighten it down. You don't want to overtighten it. You just wanna give it a push to make sure it's not shuffling around anywhere. Now, you can repeat that on the other side. All right. Doing the same thing on the other side. Bringing the clamp down and lining it up to the bed rail, and tightening down that knob. From here, we're gonna unfold our tonneau cover all the way back to the tailgate. And you can see, on each side there is a slightly different style of a clamp here. We're going to use that to secure it toward our tailgate. And these also snap into this aluminum slot. So, anytime you're removing it, or anytime you're opening it up, you can snap that guy into place. And it's not going to fall out easily. So, that's a good feature. So, we're gonna unfold it all the way back. Now, before we drop our tailgate, let's tighten that clamp on both sides. Now, to show you guys how easy this is to use, this clamp here, if we unsnap it, it has this spring in here to make sure that it's keeping tension at all times. So, it has the same style clamp at the top, which will hug the lip of this bed rail. So, we're gonna bring it down, pull on that string, and clamp it around. And as you can see, it's nice and tight. Do this on the other side. Now, with those guys clamped down at the tailgate, we can push up on it and see it's nice and tight and secure. Shut your tailgate, and it weather-seals right on the top of it, and you're good to go. Now, let's just quickly walk through how to use this guy. You can drop your tailgate, simple enough. And then on each side, you're gonna to pull down on the clamp and click it up into place on that slot. Same thing over here. So, really unlatching it just takes two seconds, but you do have to walk to both sides. From here, you can fold back once, we have access to this, and fold back again. Now, when you wanna drive, you can drive with it open. You'll wanna use these straps. They click right into place on the pre-existing slots already on the top here. You can snap this back on the other side and it's nice and secure. And you're good to drive with it. If you wanna open it up, unsnap, and as you fold it, this weatherstripping here will seal in on the bed rails. Bring it down once more, pop down those clamps, pull down on the spring and latch in on the bed rail. Same thing on the other side. And from here, you can shut your tailgate, and it's that easy. That's gonna wrap up my quick overview and install for the Extang Trifecta 2.0 Tri-Fold Cover, available for the 2019 and newer Ram 1500. If you wanna get this guy for about 400 bucks, you can do so right here at americantrucks.com.
