So if you own an '09 to '14 Ram 1500 equipped with the 5.7 Hemi, then you should know that Mopar left a little bit of power and torque on the table when they rolled these trucks out of the factory. And the easiest way to go about fixing that is to invest in a tuner like this one. This guy's the Diablosport Predator 2 Tuner, and at just over the $300 price point, this is currently the most affordable, and in my experience, the most easy to use tuner that you can buy for this truck. Has a bunch of cool preloaded tunes on here, including a towing and economy tune, but more importantly, has a higher octane fuel tune on here, which also firms up your shift points, improves throttle response, and definitely improves performance. If you were curious what kind of power games you could get out of a tuner like this, then you should take a look at our dyno graph. We went ahead, we ran our truck on the dyno stock, and it made 295 horsepower and 293 pound-feet of torque. We then installed the 91 octane performance tune available on the Diablosport, and we ended up peeking out at 301 horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque. Now, that makes for pretty modest peak gains of 6 horsepower and 13 pound-feet of torque. But what's really important are the curve gains. You definitely pick up a lot of horsepower on the low end of the RPM band, and we saw curve gains as high as 20 horsepower and 33 pound-feet of torque. And again, that's generally in the area where you're gonna be matching on the pedal or green lights and driving around on the street, so you'll definitely feel a difference when you step on the pedal with the Diablosport. It's got a lot of other cool features. You can read and clear diagnostic trouble codes, you can data log your truck in real time if you're troubleshooting or doing any advanced custom tuning, and once again, it's a very easy to use tuner. It only takes a couple of minutes to pull it out of the box, plug it in and get going with a couple button presses. So for that reason, I'm gonna give the install an extremely soft one out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter. It's really not an install, again, you're just plugging this into the OBD2 port underneath the steering column. Shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes and we'll actually be going over this in just a moment. All right, so the Diablosport is very easy to use, like I mentioned a moment ago. Go ahead and pull it out of the box. It's already assembled as one piece here. You're gonna need to plug this into the OBD2 port, which is located underneath the steering column. Once you got that plugged in, simply put your key in the on position, don't start your truck up completely, and I'll meet you guys inside. All right, once you got it plugged in and the key in the on position, it's gonna bring you to the home screen here, which is the tuning screen. Now, we're all here for power, so we're gonna go over tuning our truck before anything else. In order to tune your truck, it's really simple, you'll be navigating using the directional pad here and the Okay button. So to enter the tuning options, go ahead and click Okay. It's gonna ask that you to confirm that the key is in the on position before continuing, go ahead and click Okay. Now, at this point, the Diablosport is gonna begin communicating with the truck's computer, and it's very important that you do not turn your key to the off position, turn your truck on completely, or remove the key from the ignition at any time. You also wanna make sure that your battery is not too low. Now, this is the homepage for tuning. There are quick options where you can adjust the preloaded tunes with custom parameters, but we're not interested in that today, we just wanna see what the preloaded tune can do by itself. So we're gonna select Tune Vehicle by clicking Okay. Now, before we begin tuning the truck, the Diablosport is going to read and back up the stock file on the ECU, that way if you ever wanna remove the tune file, or convert your truck to stock, or if you run into any issues during the tuning process, we can revert back to the stock file saved on the device. Again, it's very important that you don't interrupt this process while it is reading and saving that file. All right, once the Diablosport has read and saved your stock file, it will bring you to the homepage of the different tune files, where you can select the tune you want to upload. Now, obviously, we have our performance 91 octane tune, we have our regular performance tune, we have an 87 octane tune, which will firm up shift points and improve throttle response, and we have our economy tune that will generally improve miles per gallon. Now, we're interested in seeing what our 91 octane tune can do for us today, so that's the one we're going with. Now, if you select the 91 octane tune, obviously, you have to have the correct fuel in the tank, and it will ask that you confirm you have before you install the tune, which we have 91 in our tank so we're good to go. Go ahead and click Okay to continue, and it's gonna ask you one last time if you wanna customize any tune options, which we do not want to, so we're gonna select the left arrow for no. Now, once you've selected the appropriate options for your preloaded tune file, the Diablosport will ask you to confirm that you wanna install that tune file, like it's doing now. Go ahead and click Okay for yes. Now, it will ask you to cycle through the ignition, only do so when the Diablosport actually prompts you to. Now, during the tune install process, you may see in the background here, our dash is kind of freaking out on us, that's okay, that's just the ECU working its way through this tune file as the Diablosport actually communicates with the ECU. You don't need to worry about any lights that may appear on your dash. And when the tune actually finishes installing, it will clear any false diagnostic trouble codes that it might have caused. Now, once the tune file has finished installing, it will probably ask you to cycle through the ignition a couple more times, simply follow the on-screen instructions when prompted to do so. And you can see here with our final cycling of the ignition that the Diablosport is clearing any of those false diagnostic trouble codes that I mentioned a moment ago. All right, once all those DTCs have been cleared, the Diablosport will let you know that your tune file has been successfully installed, and you can click Okay to continue, and it will bring you back to the homepage. Now, if you wanna stick around, I'll show you guys all of the other functions and features of the Diablosport. All right, next up on our list is the ability to scan, as well as the ability to read and clear those diagnostic trouble codes on your own. So in order to access the scan options, go ahead and navigate to the right from the tune menu and click Okay. Once you select Okay, it will bring you to the homepage for scanning and diagnostics. And our first option is the ability to read and clear those DTCs or diagnostic trouble codes. Go ahead and click Okay. You can see we have our two options here. So if you ever get a check engine light on your dash, it's really easy, you can come in here and select Read DTCs, and the Diablosport will scan the ECU, and it will display an alphanumeric code letting you know what problem is underlying that check engine light. Now, it's not gonna provide an actual description of that diagnose trouble code, but with a little online research you can easily find out what the underlying issue is. Once you've figured out what that diagnostic trouble code is, you can actually clear that check engine light on your dash by selecting Clear DTCs. In order to do this, your key has to be in the on position, go ahead and select Okay, and it will automatically clear those DTCs for you. Now, obviously, our truck does not have any diagnostic trouble codes currently, but even if it did, it would give you a confirmation once this is finished, letting you know that all those dash lights have been turned off. Now, if you don't fix the underlying mechanical or electrical issue, just know that most likely you will have that diagnostic trouble code reappear shortly. And you can see here we have our confirmation letting you know that our DTCs have been cleared successfully. Now, next up on the list is the ability to monitor and data log your truck in real time, as well as view different real time information from the ECU. You can find that under gauges and data logging. So again, select on the navigation pane here and select Okay. Now, you do have to have your key in the on position when you're doing this because the Diablosport will be communicating with the ECU to determine what kinds of information it can display. You can select up to 8 PIDs, P-I-Ds, or simply gauges at one time. In order to do that, select Okay to confirm, and it's gonna bring you to this different category menu here. Under these different categories are the different parameters that the ECU is reporting in real time. So just for fun, let's take a look at our engine miscellaneous gauges to see what we can display. You can see here, we have all these different options, including calculated engine load, our engine coolant temp, as well as the current vacuum and pressure in our manifold. Now, we're just gonna select a couple of these gauges just to give you a real warm and fuzzy of how it actually looks. But you can take your time and go through all these different categories and you can figure out which different information you wanna display while you're driving around. In order to select one of your gauges, you can see we have these little light indicators on either side, can scroll up and down, and you can select which one you wanna display. Once you select one by clicking Okay, these little brackets will turn red, and you can go down to the next one. And again, you can select up to eight. So we're gonna select these just for fun. Now, once you've selected eight gauges, it will automatically bring you to this notification, letting you know that once you press Okay, the truck will automatically display those gauges and it will start data logging a file on the Diablosport that you can save and pull for later. And you can see here, we have all those different engine miscellaneous gauges that we just selected. Now, if you ever wanna change those gauges, you can hit the left arrow to go back, you can go back through these different submenus if you wanna select any other gauges. And if you wanna exit this entirely, simply select the left arrow once again. And while we're here, you can see this nifty little battery voltage indicator, this is helpful if you're using the Diablosport for extended periods of time and your truck is not currently running. You can monitor your battery voltage right here and make sure it's not getting too low, while you're doing things like tuning, or data logging, or troubleshooting. All right, so as you can see, the Diablosport is definitely useful when you wanna read and clear those trouble codes and when you wanna monitor performance in real time. Now next up on our list is the ability to pull different information from the Diablosport. It's convenient, you can check your vehicle information here, which gives your current tuning level, as well as your VIN, and it also gives you information on whether the Diablosport is locked to your VIN or not, depending on whether you've tuned your truck or not. If you do have a tune loaded on your truck, the Diablosport will be married to your ECU and you cannot use the Diablosport on any other vehicle, so that's just something to take note of. You can see here we have our device info, with the SKU for the device itself, as well as our current software and hardware versions, and again, we have our VIN locked status. This is useful when you're troubleshooting the device itself and if you ever need to get in touch with Diablosport's customer service. So as you saw, tuning your truck only takes a couple of minutes, and all those features and functions are definitely convenient. They can even save you a little bit of cash, right?
