Hey, guys. So today we're checking out the AFE Momentum GT Cold Air Intake with the Pro 5R Oiled Filter in black fitting all 2019 and newer 5.7-liter RAM 1500s. So a cold air intake is going to add a number of different benefits to your RAM including better performance and efficiency, some better throttle response and it's going to be a great supporting mod for any other modifications you've done to your truck already. Now this option by AFE is going to do all of that by increasing your horsepower, torque and, like I said, your throttle response. Now this is dyno tested with a 14 horsepower increase as well as a 13 foot-pounds of torque increase and it's going to optimize your air flow by 43% over the factory intake which I personally think is very impressive. Now that's all thanks to the 5R filter in there. That is going to be an oiled filter. Great for you guys who prefer an oiled filter, don't mind all of the extra maintenance that it comes with, want a very long-lasting filter and want to optimize your air flow over a dry filter. Now there is a little bit of a difference there. However, if you're a fan of the option for an oiled filter, then this is gonna be a great choice to take a look into. And again, it's going to give you all of those performance benefits in between. Now what I really like about this option is the fact that it's going to have a closed air back system. So some other choices are usually just gonna have a heat shield. This is going to give the filter inside full protection from any water or anything getting inside your engine bay that you really don't want getting to your filter. So if you do live in a wetter climate or you take your truck off-road a lot or you just plain and simple don't want anything getting to that filter inside of that housing, then this is gonna be a great choice to take a look into. Now with all of that being said, this is gonna come in at roughly $450 and I personally think that's a very fair price for what you're getting out of this kit. Now AFE is a big brand. They do make high quality products and you can really see that in the details of this design even down to the hardware. This is gonna come with T bolt clamps and injection molded silicone coupler to make sure that it has a solid seal there. You're getting a high-quality filter and a very protective construction. And what I even like is that it has a window right on top so you can keep an eye on that filter for maintenance over time.So like I mentioned before, some of those other choices on the page are usually going to include heat shields instead of an enclosed air box like this. Now they're gonna seal to the hood and keep a lot of that hot engine bay air out but they're not gonna be as protected as this choice. Now that's gonna be more for somebody who's living in a drier climate and is not necessarily concerned about anything getting to their engine bay but if you are, if you're looking for that maximum protection to your filter, you're looking for a high quality setup like this one and you're also looking for some pretty good performance gains as far as cold air intake is concerned, then this is a great choice to take a look into.So install's gonna be a very easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. You're gonna need some basic hand tools to get the job done and probably an hour to two hours' worth of your time. So speaking of that install, let's jump into that now.Tools that I used for my install were an impact wrench, a flathead screwdriver, a 10-millimeter and 8-millimeter deep socket and a thirteen-sixteenth inch open-ended wrench. So the first step to taking off our intake. We're gonna unplug the MAF sensor and then we can move back here to the PCD. All you have to do is just push up on this gray tab. Squeeze and pull back. Make sure that that's out of the way. And then we can loosen up our clamp up at the throttle body. I'm gonna use an 8-millimeter socket in order to do that. What we can do at this point is wiggle that off of the throttle body and then we'll be able to remove the actual air box from the grommet. So as you can see on the side, this is going to be held in by grommets. All we have to really do is just wiggle and pull up.And once that is off, we can completely take this off. So before we assemble our intake and head over to our RAM, I do wanna stop down with our new intake on the table next to our factory one and tell you guys some of the similarities and differences between the two. Now the big thing that I can tell you right off the bat is that this option by AFE is going to be a big upgrade over the factory components. Now starting off with one of the main components of this intake is the filter. Now the one by AFE, you're going to get a five layered oil filter and that is going to optimize your airflow up to 43% over the factory paper element. Now the factory paper element is going to be great for stock applications. However, if you're looking to maximize your efficiency and your performance, an oiled filter, especially this one by AFE is the way to go. Now this oiled filter will require a little bit more maintenance than a papered filter but it is going to last the lifetime of your truck. So really all you have to do is rewash it and reoil it and it will hold up and have the best filtration in comparison to a paper filter like this. Now this is going to have to be replaced over so many miles and it's not going to give you the best performance. Now moving over to the housing or the air box itself, this is where you're gonna see the most similarity between the two intakes. Now of course on our factory air box we are going to have a completely closed system for that drop in filter but that's really gonna be the same thing when we're moving over to this AFE option. Now this is gonna provide a lot of protection to the filter itself from any water or any...really anything getting inside your engine bay. The filter will be able to hold its own for the most part. However, having that extra protection around the filter is going to be very beneficial overall. So I do like the fact that you're also getting a window up top. That's gonna be able to allow you to keep an eye on your filter to make sure that if it does need cleaning, you can disassemble it and clean it but in order to check it, you don't necessarily have to disassemble the whole intake. And moving on to the intake tube here. As you can tell, this is going to be a lot larger than our factory intake tube. And again, that's going to streamline and optimize that air flow from the filter all the way to that throttle body giving you the maximum performance out of the intake and that is exactly what you want. Now this is going to be heat treated or heat resistant should I say. So making sure that those temps are down, making sure that you're getting the coldest air inside your throttle body to your engine and that is exactly what this is going to do.Now with this you're also getting some quality hardware including T bolt clamps which are gonna be a step up from the factory standard clamps and you're also getting some injection molded couplers which are going to create a tight seal making sure that no air leaks out. So with that being said, let's go ahead and assemble our new intake so we can get it installed on our RAM.So we do have to transfer over a couple of things from our stock intake. We do need to take off the four grommets that are going to hold it in place and we also do have to swap over our MAF sensor. So I'm gonna start with the grommets. I'm gonna use a flathead screwdriver and just carefully push them out. If you are using a flathead, just be careful that you're not ripping the rubber.Let's switch to on the side. And for the bottom ones, we can just peel back. Now we will be reusing this MAF sensor. So all you really have to do is just twist and pull back. You wanna be careful and keep this clean and keep this to the side. Now starting off with the intake tube, I'm gonna take this rubber grommet that's provided in the kit. Not the one that we just took off of our factory intake. We're gonna put this in the hole that is not threaded. So you're gonna have a threaded hole down here and you're also just going to have a hole up at the top. So now that that's in there, we can take the provided plastic piece and push that through. Now this is the part that's going to hold our MAF sensor. We're gonna take our MAF sensor, drop that down on in making sure that O ring is flush. Right? Push that down on in. Make sure that tab is set. And we can take our new fitting for our PCV hose, thread that in.So you do wanna tighten this down to where it seals but you don't want to overtighten it. So once those are in, what we can do is put our intake tube to the side and start working on our housing. So these grommets are going to go in the exact place that our factory ones were in. So we're just gonna go ahead and push that through. And then two on the bottom. So what we can do at this point is install our filter. There's gonna be little tabs on the outside of that rubber or silicone there. We can fit it in to the housing itself. Right? Once it's sitting flush, put that T bolt clamp back on. So once that clamp is on, what we can do is take this over to our RAM and install the actual air box. So what we can do first is line up our grommets. We can give it a good push down making sure that these are together. So what we can do first is put on our silicone coupler making sure that the T bolt clamp is oriented in the correct way. We wanna make sure that this is sitting completely over that throttle body lip there. Might be a little bit difficult to see with that clamp. We can give it a good twist. And we check it on the sides. And then to make sure that this stays in place, we can tighten this up with a 10-millimeter socket. Now we can grab our intake tube and pop this into the air box side. We can orient the tube to sit inside the silicone coupler on the throttle body. So now that the coupler's around the intake tube, we can do the same thing. Tighten that up with a 10-millimeter socket. We can tighten up the clamp on this side using the same 10-millimeter socket. Then we can plug our MAF sensor back into place. Then what we can do is take our PCV pipe, flip that back on making sure that that clip clips and after that, you're all set to go.So that's gonna wrap it up for my review and install.
