So if you own an '03 to '14 Ram 1500 with the classic 5.7 Hemi, basically you wanna get the most performance out of your motor without actually turning any wrenches, you should be checking out a tuner like the Flashpaq F5 from Superchips. Now there are a couple of tuners available for the 5.7, however, I'm a big fan of the F5 for a few reasons. Number one, pretty simple, it's one of the most affordable, right? You wanna spend the least amount of money as well, this is definitely the way to go. Number two, for how affordable it is, it actually has some of the most preloaded tune files available of all the tuners on the category page. Number three, it's very easy to use and it's actually pretty fast too, it has a new processor in it compared to Superchips' older models, so tuning your truck only takes a couple of minutes. And on that note, we wanted to see what the F5 could do for our 1500. So we ran it on the Dyno Bone Stock, our truck made 289 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. We then installed a middle of the road performance tune using 91 Octane, our truck made 301 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, 4 peak gains of 12 horsepower and a whopping 37 pound-feet of torque. Certainly pretty impressive for doing nothing more than changing up some of the air to fuel mixtures that the preloaded tune file offers. Now if you like the way those numbers sound, and you like the way the F5 looks in terms of cost, go ahead and stick around. I'm actually gonna show you how to tune your truck, I'm also gonna show you all the other available features on here step by step. So getting started with the Flashpaq is pretty straightforward, all we have to do is plug it into our OBD2 port and in the case of the '09 to '18 Rams, it's located directly below into the left of your hood latch release. So once you have the Flashpaq plugged in and your key is in the ignition in the on position, you will be brought to this home screen, which is the tuning page. Now we're all here for the numbers. Let's go over how to tune your truck first, go ahead and click okay on the center of the controls here. It's gonna ask you to confirm that your ignition is in the on position, go ahead and click okay. Now at this point, the Flashpaq is communicating with your ECU and it's setting up the tune profiles so that you can install them. Now there's two options on here, there's two vehicle and quick options. Quick options include some custom tuning parameters. We're not interested in those today, we just wanna see what the preloaded tunes on the Flashpaq can actually do, so we're gonna click on tune vehicle. Now, at this point, the Flashpaq is building and saving the stock files on your ECU, that way if you ever want to untune your truck or convert it to stock or if there's any issues during the tune install, the device can go into failsafe mode and it can reload your stock profile. At this point, it's important that you do not unplug the tuner, you also wanna make sure you do not turn your key in the ignition whatsoever. All right, once the Flashpaq has read and saved your stock file, you can begin to tune in your truck. You can see there are a couple of different options available. There's an 87 Octane performance tune, it's gonna make some basic changes to your air and fuel mixture and firm up your shift points. You also have a towing option, it's obviously gonna be pretty self-explanatory. You also have a mileage XS save tune, that's gonna help you get better MPGs, certainly helpful if you take your truck on a daily commute. Now, we're interested in seeing what the performance 91 octane tune provides. 91 octane is the most commonly available high-grade fuel wherever you live, so we're gonna go ahead and stick with this one. Now, it's gonna give you a little disclaimer here saying that, obviously. for 91 performance, you need 91 octane or higher fuel. The 91 performance tune is gonna give this little disclaimer, saying that you do need 91 octane in the tank, obviously make sure that is the case, go ahead and click continue. It's gonna ask you if you wanna customize any options in the tune file, you should not be messing with those parameters unless you know what you're doing. We're not interested in that, we just wanna see what the tune can provide us, so we're gonna go ahead and select the left arrow for no. At this point, the Flashpaq is gonna begin building the tune file and it's gonna load it on your truck, it's gonna be generally the same process as when it read and saved your stock file, you'll see a loading screen with a percentage. It's very important you don't unplug the device and again, you don't wanna turn your key to the off position while the tune loads. Now, it's gonna give you one final confirmation here asking that you're sure you wanna install the correct tune, go ahead and click okay. It's gonna ask you to turn your key on and off throughout the tuning process, only do so when prompted. Now, once the tune files loaded and you've cycled the ignition per the instructions a few more times, the Flashpaq is gonna clear any diagnostic trouble codes that might have been falsely tripped during the install. Once those DTCs are clear, it should give you a confirmation screen that your tune has been successfully loaded. And we can see that confirmation screen here letting us know that our performance 91 octane file has been installed, that's all you gotta do to tune your truck. Now besides tuning, the Flashpaq does offer some other cool features. You can scan and read, and clear diagnose trouble codes, otherwise known as check engine lights. You can also run real-time gauges and data logging water driving around, so let's show you how to do all that. You're gonna select the scan option by navigating to the left and right. Once you select this scan option, it's gonna bring you to the scanning and diagnostics page. Here's where you can select those different options, reading and clearing your diagnostic trouble codes, as well as your gauges' real-time data logging and a nifty little battery voltage meter. Let's go over reading and clearing those codes first, go ahead and click okay. Once you click okay, it's gonna give you two simple options, one, read the diagnostic trouble code and clear the code. If your truck has a check engine light, you're gonna select okay under read DTCs. It's gonna ask you to make sure that your key is in the on position and it's gonna scan and tell you what those diagnostic trouble codes are. They'll usually show up as an alphanumeric code, for example, P0010. That's really useful, you can take that code, pop it into Google and it'll tell you what the issue is with your truck. Once you've selected the diagnostic trouble codes and you've read them, you can click okay to continue and if you want to, you can clear the check engine light. Now, keep in mind, if you do not actually get rid of the underlying cause, the check engine light will probably return but you can temporarily turn it off from this screen. And sometimes after you actually fix the issue, the light might remain, so this is a good way of getting rid of it once you actually fix the problem. It's gonna take a second, it's just letting you know that it's clearing the DTCs. It's gonna give you a confirmation stream once those codes have been cleared, letting you know that the operation is complete. So that's a cool little function again, being able to read and clear those trouble codes and check engine lights. Now, if you wanna monitor your truck's performance in real time, you're gonna select gauges and data logging. Now you can select up to eight PIDS. PIDS are basically the gauges that you can monitor while you're driving around. Go ahead and click okay on this screen and it's gonna bring you to the different categories under which you can select different gauges. There are a lot of gauges available underneath these different categories, we're not gonna get into too much detail for each one, we're just gonna select eight gauges so we can show you how they work. Let me go under engine miscellaneous gauges, you see there's a bunch of different options here, we're just gonna go down the list and check them off. To select the gauge, you're gonna click okay and you'll see the little bars to the left and right turn red. Once you've selected that gauge, you can go through all the other ones and select up to eight again. Now, once you've selected eight gauges, it's gonna bring you to this confirmation screen. Go ahead and click okay. It's gonna load your gauges and display all the available information in real time while you are driving around. Now, if you wanna data log your truck and actually save a file of all the information that you've been monitoring, it's really simple, all you gotta do is click okay while you're on the gauge screen. You can see how it's highlighted with this red hue, once you click okay, it's gonna turn green, that's gonna let you know that the Flashpaq is actually recording all the data that your truck is logging while you're driving around. Once you're done logging, simply click okay again to stop data logging, that'll automatically save a file inside the Flashpaq device itself. And you can connect the device to your computer later, and you can pull that data file for troubleshooting or if you're doing any remote tuning of any kind. Now, if you wanna exit out of the gauge screen, it's really easy, all you gotta do is click the left arrow to exit and now it's gonna bring you back to the PID groups. Again, these are just the different categories under which you can select your gauges. If you wanna exit out of the eight gauges and data logging entirely, simply click the left arrow again to exit. Now I mentioned earlier, it has a little battery voltage gauge here, this is convenient if you're doing any diagnostics in the driveway with the engine off, just a convenient way for you to monitor the voltage and output of your battery, so you don't kill your battery while you're using the Flashpaq. So besides tuning and scanning being the two main features of the Flashpaq, there are some basic options you can find under info. This is a convenient way for you to pull some basic vehicle and device information. Under vehicle info, you can see what tune you're currently running. You can also check the VIN for your truck, you'll really only ever need that if you're working with troubleshooting device with Superchips customer service. And the same thing applies to device info, just gives you some basic information about the Flashpaq itself, it's gonna let you know that it's locked with your truck because of the tune. And again, this is information that you'll generally only need to find if you're ever troubleshooting your device. So as you can see, the F5 Tuner is very easy to use and it makes tuning your truck a breeze and that actually also wraps up my review of the Flashpaq F5 Tuner from Superchips, fitting your '03 to '14 1500 Ram. I'm Travis, thanks for watching and for all things Ram, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.

could be better
Not a huge difference with the higher octane tunes, truck has an intake and exhaust for reference. If MDS is still enabled, the tunes will cause the truck to lurch forward when all 8 kick back on while cruising and it is somewhat annoying after a 4 hour road trip. Tech support was of no help, been waiting on a reply for 2-3 weeks now.

Followed instructions and did the update online prior to plugging into 2011 ram, took about 15 minutes and with the sb cai, bbk 85mm throttle body along with a full exhaust, I can say the results were very noticable immediately. Very pleased with this product. Arrived in two days also after ordering.

Performance 93 tune made the truck really fun to drive. I used the mileage xs tune for a 350 mile weekend road trip and the dash showed 26mpg. That being said I drove the speed limit and took it easy on the throttle. It adds versatility to the truck.

I started with the 87 tune just to see if I could tell a difference. As of today I have used all tunes except for the Tow tune. The 93 tune is a beast considering its not a customer tune. My truck weighs close to 6,700 lbs. and it has massively changed the the overall performance. Bonus... I have not noticed a notable difference in gas mileage using any of the tunes. Well worth the price!
1. For towing with an 09 5.7L Ram 1500, would you recommend the Diablosport inTune i3 tuner, or the Superchips Flashpaq F5 tuner?
2. Which tuner builds up more power at a lower RPM with a 91 Octane tune?
3. Which tuner would you recommend for their MPG modes and results?
4. Does either tuner allow/enable me to turn stability control off in 2WD?
I like the Superchips tuner because it is cheaper, but will I get anything extra for the extra $30 or so for the Diablosport? I plan on using the Tow tune, the MPG tune, and the 91 Octane tune.
The site lets me know right away if an item will fit my vehicle. In addition to the product pictures the customer pictures tell the real story. Easy checkout with PayPal. No messing around. I'll be back!
When I was a kid I spent every summer attending car shows with my grandfather. We would often see street rods, and muscle cars getting pulled over by local police on the side of the road. We would roll the windows down and yell “Is it a HEMI?!”. I always had a fascination with the legendary HEMI ...
