Hey, guys, Adam here with americantrucks.com and today we're taking a closer look at and installing the STX400 side steps in the black finish, available for the '19 and newer Ram 1500 with Crew Cab. You should be checking this out if you're looking for a pretty traditional side step for the side of your truck here to help you get in and out of your truck safely and securely all year round regardless of weather climate. Now this particular option here, being a more traditional side step, comes out from the body of the vehicle, leaving a little bit of negative space there, uses three brackets to install under the rocker panel there. There are preexisting studs already back there, so you're really just mounting them up and bolting them up. This one here is made from a very durable aluminum one-piece body with plastic ABS caps here that are grip and slip-resistant. Now those caps have arrows pointing in toward the middle here for added grip, they're indented in there, and they also have these knobs that plateau out from the sides, both on the outside and inside of the step. So if you come at it at a weird angle you still get a bunch of grip even at that slope because it is a little bit rounded. So this is gonna be really good for the guys looking for that traditional step here. There are a ton of different options and styles in the category, everything from side steps like this, Nerf bars, running boards that hug the body of the vehicle, drop-steps that are isolated steps that come down a lot lower from the vehicle, and there is even power steps that activate automatically when your door's open. So there's a ton of different ways you can go. If you're looking to cut cost, stay on a budget but get a really reliable system, this is a great way to go for just around 400 bucks for the set. Maye even a little less that. Now the install gets one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter here. It's gonna take about an hour from start to finish to get both sides tackled. It's extremely straightforward. You're just gonna need an impact gun or a ratchet and a 13-millimeter socket, and you'll have it done in no time by yourself in the driveway at home. Now I'm gonna show you guys every step of the process from start to finish. What do you say we get started? Tools used in this install include an impact gun, a ratchet, and a 13-millimeter deep socket. We're gonna start on our driver side here and then we can repeat on the other side. We're gonna take these brackets and sit them right up on the studs that are already in position on your rocker panel on your new Ram. So I'm starting at the rear of the vehicle toward the truck bed. The top stud is a little more offset, the bottom ones are even, and as you move toward the front of the vehicle, they're offset opposite. So what we're gonna do here is basically taking our flat washer and our nylon lock nuts and just threading them on all three studs for each of the brackets. We're gonna basically do that three times on each side. All right, once you got all three of those in position, try to even it out so it's right in the middle of those studs. Grab your 13 deep socket and tighten these studs down. All right, let's head over to the middle and do the same thing. All right, same thing in the middle here except the top stud is offset to the middle. All right, doing the exact same thing toward the front. Now if you're using an impact gun, it's a little bit harder. There's a little bit less room in the front here, so you may need to switch over to a ratchet for some of them.Next up, we have our side step face down. Now you wanna make sure you're grabbing the appropriate side. So if you're starting on the driver side, grab the driver side side step. We're gonna take these T-bolts and on the bottom underneath of the side step, we're gonna slot them into these slots. Line up on each line two bolts per bracket. So I'm gonna slide this guy all the way down to the end, then go on the top line here and do the same thing so that those bolts will then go into the two open holes on the brackets we installed under the truck. Do the same thing for each bracket. They don't have to be perfect just yet. You just want to get them in the general vicinity. So now what we can do is pick up the side step, flip it over, and drop those studs into the brackets. So if you need to you can just go underneath, stick your head down in there and line everything up.All right, so at this point you have the ability to slide the side step along those T slots and just line it up on the truck where you want it. I've got it in a pretty good position. So what I'm gonna do now is put on a flat washer, followed by a split washer, and then follow it up with our hex nut. I'm gonna tighten this guy all the way down by hand just to keep it in position a little bit better. Now it's up to you how you want to do it. You can put each one of these on by hand on each of the brackets, or you can do one at a time, tighten it down and then move on. I'm gonna grab my 13 socket and tighten these down now. That's gonna help hold the side step in position while we do the rest of them. All right, repeat on the other side and you're good to go.That's gonna wrap up my review and install for the STX400 side steps in black, available for the '19 and newer Crew Cab Ram 1500.
