Justin: Hey, everybody, I'm Justin with americantrucks.com. And today I'm taking a closer look at the RedRock Rebel Style Upper Grille Replacement available for select 2019 and newer Ram 1500s. You should be checking out this grille if you're a big fan of that factory Rebel styling, and we'd like to kick things up a notch, thanks to the three Amber LED running lights. Now to find the inspiration behind this particular grille, you really don't need to look any further than the name. This option from RedRock was designed to give off those Rebel vibes while also adding a little something extra, again in the form of the three Amber LED running lights, which is a very popular trend in the truck world as of late. Now, besides looking the part of the Rebel, this grille will actually really open up the airflow to the front end of the truck, more specifically your radiator, which is always good when we're talking about cooling. Now, I'm also a big fan of how the RedRock option has added this small little detail here down below, in place of the Ram lettering. Actually, some owners have used this as an opportunity to mount a 24-inch light bar in that particular area. I think it's awesome. In fact, if you don't wanna take my word for it, feel free to check out some of the customer-submitted images on the product page to get a view of that and others with this thing installed.Moving into construction, and RedRock has used OEM CAD data to help design and build this grille, which will basically ensure a factory-like fit when it comes time for the install. Materials are going to include an injection molded ABS plastic for things like the actual surround itself but also for the honeycomb material or insert. Now your Amber LEDs are included up here as is the necessary wiring to tap into your factory running lights to ensure these things do illuminate when your parking lights or your headlights have been switched on.Finally, guys, they even tossed in the necessary hardware and brackets needed to get the grille mounted up entirely. Now, last but not least, guys, as you can see, the grille is finished off in a sleek matte black color, just like the factory Rebel grille. Now, with that being said, if you have a Chrome packaged truck, you really dig the look of this grille but don't think the all-black would vibe with your Chrome, well, you're in luck as we're actually going to offer a Chrome version of this grille on the site. It doesn't offer the Amber LED lighting at least at this time. But it does offer that Rebel styling with Chrome accents, you can find that again under Item Number R124871.I will say, for a quality factory-styled grille with additional accent lighting, the low $300 price point seems to be very fair. In fact, there are actually other Rebel-styled options on the site without the added LED lighting that are actually gonna be about 100 bucks more than the RedRock option here. So, again, for the price with the lighting, it's certainly a solid deal.So I'm just gonna call this install a solid one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, about two hours to complete from start to finish, including getting everything wired up. But now what do you say we head out to the shop for our detailed walkthrough and tool breakdown?Man 1: Tools used in this install include a ratchet, 8 -millimeter socket, 10-millimeter socket, a small flathead screwdriver, a Phillips head screwdriver, clip removal tool, a wire cutter, crimper, and stripper, and an optional impacts gun or electric ratchet.Hey everyone, today I'm gonna be showing you how to install this RedRock grille with the LED daytime running lights on our 2019 Ram 1500 here. Now, before we do that, we're gonna show you a clip of how to uninstall your stock grille and also the driver-side headlight because we are gonna need to take that out for this installation because that's where we're gonna access the wiring for the daytime running lights in this new grille. So the process if you've ever taken your headlights out of your 2019 or newer Ram, it's gonna look very similar to that. So we're gonna show you that clip first, and then I'm gonna come back, and we'll show you how to do the install.Man 2: So we're gonna start by removing our upper Rad cover. There's a bunch of plastic clips that need to be removed. So I'm gonna use my plastic clip removal tool and pop the heads of them open. And then once I get those all removed, I can pull the panel off.And we're gonna pull this panel right off. The next piece we need to remove is the headlight trim and grille trim here on the top of the vehicle. It's a combination of a pop clip and 10-millimeter screws. So I'm gonna use my clip tool once again and a 10-mil socket to pull all these out and then I can just remove this piece from the vehicle.Next, I'm gonna use my 8-millimeter socket to remove some of the screws here on the inner wheel well and pull the liner back to expose a little bit more hardware that's hiding behind the liner so I can get this panel off that surrounds the headlight. So now that I have the liner pulled back, I've exposed this 10-millimeter bolt here inside the wheel well liner and I'm gonna use my 10-mil on a ratchet and just pull that out.Now just repeat this process on the other side.Next, I'm gonna need to remove my grille. There are three 10-millimeter bolts at the bottom of either side of the grille. And there are four across the top. I'll just use my 10-mil socket on my small impact gun, remove all of those screws and pull the grille off.So now that I have my grille removed, I can go ahead and start unbolting and unhooking my headlights. I have a clip here at the top as well as a 10-millimeter bolt. And then I have a 10-millimeter bolt here on the side from the fender. And I'll just use my 10-mil socket and my clip tool, and pull those out, and then I can unhook my headlights. It's a little hard to see but I'm just gonna unplug my headlight connectors from the back, just push down on the tabs to release them, and then you can pull the headlight out.Man 1: All right, now that we've got the front end disassembled and the driver-side headlight pulled out, I've gone ahead and gotten our new grille set up here on the table. Now, I've oriented this like it's gonna go on the truck. So this is the top of the grille, obviously with these three lights. I'm gonna face it down here because I have to put some brackets on here before we get started and go any further. So, I'm gonna take this bracket on this side. I'm gonna go ahead and screw this on.Okay, so over here we've got our brackets. Now there are two of them and they are directional. So you're gonna want to make sure that you've got the right one going the right way. This part should be facing down like this. Next, we're gonna take four of these gold screws that are included in the kit, just using a Phillips head screwdriver, let's go ahead and get them in. I'm just gonna start with one for right now because that should hold this in place. Go ahead and do it with the other three.Once I've got those all nice and snug, I'm gonna go ahead and do the same thing with the other bracket on the other side of the grille. Right. So, again, we're coming over here on the other side of the grille and we're gonna do the exact same thing we just did over there. Again, just making sure that this is in the proper orientation. It should kind of be angled like so, that there, get the first screws started. Now, these are self-tapping screws that are included in the kit. So you should only need a very tiny little bit of force to get these started. Once they grab, they'll go the rest of the way in. Like that one, grab right away. All right, before we go on to the truck, we do have one more thing left to do. And that is to transfer four of these brackets right up here onto our new grille. Now the stock one does have eight. We are only gonna transfer four. That is fine. Our new grille only has four spaces for it. That means you are gonna have four left on here and you're gonna have a couple of extra bolts at the end. I would recommend hanging on to those if you ever wanna go back to stock or in case one breaks sometime in the future, you'll have some extras. So to get these off, I'm just gonna take a small flathead screwdriver. There's a little clip right there in the center. I'm just gonna pry that up and then push this off and set it aside. We'll do the same thing for the other three. Now, I went ahead and figured out which ones I'm gonna transfer over. I'm using the exact same ones, just so I know what goes where. But you can pull any four that you like. All right, once we've got those four off, we're gonna grab our new grille, put them on, and then we'll be ready to move on to the truck. All right, now we got our new grille up on the table, so we're gonna take those clips and we're just gonna slide them on right here. Again, I would recommend just lining these up with the stock grille so you know what goes where. I went ahead and did that already off-camera. So you're gonna use these two in the center and then these two on the outer edges here. They are the smaller ones with the round holes and they've got these little tracks on the side too, so it makes them pretty easy to identify.Right. Once we've got all four of those on, we're ready to move on to the truck. All right, next, since we have to do a little bit of wiring, I'm gonna go ahead and disconnect my negative battery terminal. So I've got my 10-millimeter socket here on my ratchet, and I'm just gonna loosen this up. And yours may look a little bit different than ours because we do have a battery tender on here. We're just gonna pull this off carefully once you get it loose enough.I'm just gonna wrap this up and set it aside so we don't make any contact with anything. Now, we're ready to start our wiring. Next step is going to be to clip our wiring harness here for the daytime running lights. Since we are wiring these up to the daytime running lights, we're gonna use this little plug over here. So, I'm gonna take my wire cutters and go up a little bit here and pull this insulation back if you want. We're just gonna snip that right off for right now. Then we're gonna go ahead and strip these ends so we can put our Scotchlok connectors on.So, I'm gonna take my wire strippers, we got these nice ones here. I'm just gonna strip the ends off a little bit. Once we've got that done, we're gonna go ahead and do the same thing down on the harness on the truck so you can set that aside. We'll go ahead and do this next. All right, now we're gonna go ahead and do the same thing on the harness on the body of the truck.Okay. Once we got that done, we'll go grab our harness and we'll get ready to put these together. Next, we're gonna go ahead and get things connected. So, I'm going to take our pigtail here. We'll be working with the black wire first. Those are gonna go in together just like that. And then our new harness. We're also gonna take the black wire as that as our ground. We're gonna put that, splice that in with these. Once you've got them in a place that you feel pretty good about, go ahead and press down on the Scotchlok connector and get those crimped in like that. Now since we're gonna be putting our truck back to stock later, I'm not gonna go ahead and put any electrical tape on this but on your truck, you're probably gonna wanna do that. Make sure you have a nice tight seal. Once you've got that side done, we're gonna do the same thing for the power wire. The power wire on the new harness is red, the power wire on the truck side of things is white. So I'm gonna grab my other connector here, this side on the pigtail in like that. Do the same thing for this as well. We're gonna take a new one, and then like that. Once you've got them in, go ahead and crimp that down as best you can. And again, we're gonna be putting our truck back to stock. So we're gonna leave these as they are. We're not gonna tape them up. But you might wanna do that for yours just to have a nice weathertight seal. All right, now that we've got the wiring finished up here, I did go ahead and reconnect our battery just to test everything. But our next step here is going to be to route this wiring harness. So, I'm gonna go through behind where the headlight sits, and I'm gonna pull this part of the pigtail over here because we're gonna need that to hook up to our grille. And you're gonna wanna keep this kind of out of the way here because there is some stuff that we don't wanna get this caught up in, such as our hood latch. I'm just gonna place this over there for now.You will also have some excess wiring over here. So what you can do is just set this aside. There are some zip ties included in the kit, if you wanna put this somewhere out of the way. But we're gonna wait to do that until we get things a little bit more buttoned up. So now that we've got that where we need it to be, we're gonna go ahead and put our headlight back in. Okay, now, we're gonna go ahead and plug our light back in. So we're gonna use this connector, plug that back into our running light back here, just push that again until it clicks. And then the same thing down here. We've got this connector from the body harness of the truck. And that's just gonna plug into the bottom of our headlight here and just push it till it clicks.Once you've got them in, we're gonna go ahead and get the headlight mounted up, right? Now we can put our headlight into place. So this large tab again is gonna go back where it came from overtop of this part of the fender. There's also a small tab over here that goes into that slot and gets everything aligned. And once I've kind of got this into place, I'm gonna go ahead and take my bolts. The long one goes up top here, just like it did when we took it out. The smaller of the two goes down here. We're just gonna get those started, kind of check my alignment first. And I'll go ahead and tighten them down. Once I've got those tightened up, I'll just take my push clip up here and put that right into place, and we're ready to move on. Before I bolt our grille into place, I'm gonna go ahead and do up the connectors for the lights on it. So, I've taken the pigtails here that we ran earlier. I'm just gonna click those into place. Now I'm doing this above the grille because our truck does have the active grille shutters on it, so I don't want those wires to pinch in. Once I've got those done, I'm gonna go ahead and set the grille into place, taking care of that I don't pinch these wires. The grille, just like your stock one, goes over top of these tabs on the headlights, you have to push them down, tolerance is a little tight. We got that down. Again, double-check your wires to make sure everything is where it needs to be. It can leave a little bit of slack here, you do have some zip ties, if you wanna go ahead and secure these, make sure especially if these are out of the way of your hood latch, they're not gonna get pinched in there when you shut the hood. All right, just for illustrative purposes here, I'm gonna take a zip tie, feed it down behind the hood latch cable, and around our radiator support, and just kind of snug up these wires here to make sure they stay out of the way. Now you can do a few more here if you'd like. I'm only gonna do this one because we are gonna put our truck back to stock as soon as we're done here. With that, I'm gonna do one over here closer to the fuse box as well, keep all of that excess wiring out of the way.So, again, just for illustrative purposes, I'm gonna take some of this excess wire that I have over here and I'm just gonna run a quick zip tie around it here on this mount for the fuse box. Now, again, you do what is gonna work best for you and your truck. This is just for some illustrative purposes. So you see you can keep that nice and out of the way. Make sure this is not going to obstruct anything else on the truck. With that, we're ready to put the bolts in the top of our grille on. All right, next, we're gonna go ahead and do up our bolts at the top of the grille. So, again, using the same hardware that we used when we took this off, these sort of long-inch bolts, there are four of them, get them started, of course. And then I'll take a 10-millimeter socket. I'm using my impact gun here, just tightening those down. Again, as you do this, make sure that you're not pinching anything and keep track of those wires so they are out of the way. Next, we'll do the three bolts at the bottom of the grille. You're gonna take two of these really long ones, one of the shortest ones that's remaining, just get them started. Again, this is gonna be just like stock. We're reusing all of our stock hardware here. And I just like to get these things started by hand to minimize the risk of cross-threading. So once I've got them started, go ahead and take my 10-millimeter socket and snug them up. Once you've got that done, you'll repeat this same process on the other side of the grille. Now, we'll take our trim panel and we're gonna set this back into place.Once that's clipped in snugly, we're gonna go back over here to our wheel well, and we'll do up the inner fender liner. All right, next, we'll do up our 10-millimeter bolt on the inside here to hold this panel on. You're not really gonna be able to see it on camera, but I've gone ahead and gotten that started by hand. We're just gonna take ratchet with the shallow 10-millimeter on it, and just get that snugged up. Really when you're kind of going to do it by feel, it's very hard to see it in there.Once you've got that snugged up, we're gonna go ahead and do up these parts of the inner fender well. So we'll go ahead and just gently work this back into place, taking care not to break anything or lose any of our clips. Once we've got that roughly where we want it, take our 8-millimeter screws here, and we'll just start getting them...Once you got those started, we're gonna take our 8-millimeter socket and just tighten them down. Now our inner fender well has seen a little bit of use. So it may take a little bit of finessing to get this back where it needs to be. Yours may not need it, but if it does, just take your time, get these all started. And as you tighten them down, it should bring things back into place. One more right up top.Once you've got that all buttoned up, you're gonna go ahead and repeat that process on the other side of the truck for the other trim panel. Next, we're gonna go ahead and put our upper grille trim panel back on the truck. Now, there are a couple of things to note with this. First of all is that it does have these centering holes on here that are gonna line up with the grille and underneath of the fender. So make sure you've got them lined up, everything will just slide into place. The other thing to note is that we are not gonna use all of those bolts that we took off of this originally. Remember we only transferred four of these clips back onto this new grille. So you are gonna have a couple of extras. Make sure to just hang on to them in case you break one at some point or you decide you wanna go back to stock. So with that, we're gonna go ahead and get this on.So, again, we're gonna line this up. I like to get it underneath the fender first. Make sure the holes are lined up here on the grille. And that will just slide into place. Once you've got that done, we're gonna take our bolts here. Again, you are gonna have a few left over. You'll be able to see whether or not new clips and we'll just get these guys started by hand. And we're gonna take those 10-millimeter bolts that we used, pull this out. I'm just gonna put these in top of the grille. I like to get these started again by hand because you're just going to these little clips.Again, keep in mind there are four clips, 1, 2, 3, and 4 that we did not transfer over from our original grille. So you're just not gonna use bolts there. But there are plenty to keep this secure enough. This is a good time too to check fitment make sure everything is where you want it to be. Once you've got all those started, we'll take our 10-millimeter and just snug these up.And again, you will end up with four extras here. So just set them aside, hang on to them in case you need them later. And the last piece we have to put back on is our radiator cover. So we're just gonna slide this into place, make sure it's lined up here where you want it to be. Once you've got it in place, we'll go ahead and secure this with our pushpins. Just kind of checking the alignment of this as we go.If you happen to have any fall in on you like I did, make sure you pull them out before you try and get these on to the truck. And the last one right up here at the top of the headlight. With that, our install is complete. That's gonna wrap it up here for our review and install of the RedRock Rebel Style Upper Replacement Grille with LED Daytime Running Lights in Matte Black, fitting 2019 and newer Ram 1500 Big Horns, Laramies, Lone Stars, and Tradesmen.
