      Jake: Jake here for American Trucks and today I'm taking a look at the PowerStop Z36 Extreme Truck and Tow Carbon-Fiber Ceramic Rear Brake Pads for 2019 and newer RAM 1,500s. Now, brakes are some of the most important components of your vehicle, especially if you work your truck hard. And these Z36 Extreme Truck and Tow Pads have their intentions spelled out right there in the name. So if you're towing or putting your truck through its paces, these are an excellent upgrade over your stock pads for not a whole lot of money.PowerStop is a company that is founded on exactly what their name implies and that is stopping. They are solely focused on brakes and breaking components and it shows in the quality of their products. These pads that we have here today are, of course, no exception. The Z36 pads are made with PowerStop's own proprietary carbon-fiber ceramic compound. These are designed for severe duties such as hauling or towing, and they're gonna provide excellent heat dissipation and silent braking no matter the temperature.That is partly because the compound makes for a stable friction coefficient, even at higher temperatures. That means that you're gonna avoid brake fade if you're hauling up and down hills, pulling a heavy trailer or whatever else you can think to throw at it. Now the surfaces of the pads are also thermal scorched, and that's gonna make for a more effective and faster breaking. Lots of upgraded brake pads lead to a compromise when it comes to regular use, such as just driving around town with your family.Sometimes that might be in breaking field, so that initial bite when you hit the pedal might come on a little bit later than it did with your stock brakes or they might bite really well, but they produce a ton of brake dust. However, it's not the case here. There's virtually no compromise in brake performance or feel with these. In fact, PowerStop claims that these are nearly dust free. Now, no brake pad is entirely dust free just due to the nature of how they work.But these are a super low dust formula that's gonna keep your wheels a lot cleaner, and that's especially nice if you've got some cool aftermarket wheels on your truck or if you're like me and you just can't stand cleaning wheels. Moreover, these pads are also designed to operate with virtually no noise. So unlike a lot of upgraded brake pads on the market, you're not gonna get that annoying squealing sound after the pads have embedded in.Again, this all makes them an excellent choice for the daily driven truck or one that you're gonna put a lot of miles on. Pricing here will come in around $75, which is not bad at all for a set of upgraded rear brake pads like these. There are more expensive options out there on the market, but if you're looking for excellent results without having to break the budget, these are a great choice. Now of course, they also pair well with the matching set for the front brakes, which we do have available on our site, and I would highly recommend picking up a set of those as well.So you've got all four corners running the same pads. Now insulation here will come in at a one out of three on a difficulty meter and should only take you about an hour to get it done. Swapping brake pads is a pretty straightforward job, something you can easily do in your driveway or garage at home even if you've never attempted it before. And PowerStop is nice enough to include all the shims and hardware that you need, plus some high temp brake lubricant too. So, everything you need is right there in the box. And to show you exactly what's involved, let's throw it over to one of our AT customers right now.Speaker 2: This install, you need a jack stand, torque wrench breaker bar, ratchet, 22-millimeter socket, 12-millimeter socket, four-inch extension, flat head screwdriver, C-clamp, and jack stand. Listen, the lug nuts first, 22-millimeter socket with a breaker bar. Okay, jack the truck up. Same place as last time. Jack stand, 12-millimeter, 12-millimeter, 12-millimeter socket. Two caliper bolts. That easy. That's off by hand. So, I have to you take the two bolts out, slide that off, put it in a safe spot. Next, these little guys out, you should just slide right out like so. It's the old one.Only has 5,000 miles on it so they're not too bad. In comparison to the new one, they are old. New, old. Xtreme pads. And we move the other side and slide right out, just like before. Turns off to the side, new clips. These just pop right out with your flat head. Power which way they go, it's a lot easier. Put the new one in back. Oh, the fuck. There you go. Same thing. There you go. New one just slides right into the bracket. I might have to open this little clip right here, just this much. Yeah, it's going.What we do is slide in, like so. There you go. The clips, fold, fold. Fold, fold. There you go. Use your C-clamp and an old brake pad, it's hard to do, a flat surface. Press and twist it in and should fit. I know it's slow. Twelve-millimeter bolts. That moves down. There you go. Now you can put the tire back up. Always do, you start a pattern. 2.2-millimeter, break bar. And we'll lower it back down. And take your torque wrench, four-inch extension.
