      Merideth: If you want an efficient way to prevent oil sludge from gunking up your 5.7-liter, this J&L 3.0 Black Oil Separator for the Passenger Side will be a great addition to your 2009 to 2018 RAM 1500. This will be a great pick if you have a stock or modified engine and want to reduce oil sludge from making its way back into the engine to increase engine protection and better performance and solid longevity.Now you may not realize it, but oily vapors on their way out can sneak back in through the PCV system, which can create buildup over time and potentially bog down your performance. Now, again, that will happen over time, but what this is gonna do is capture the oil created in combustion, separate the oil from the air, and trap them in this catch can before it is routed back into your system.This will eliminate all of the potential engine sludge, and this specific option by J&L will feature a quality design to do just that. The catch can will have a solid billet aluminum construction with a black anodized finish, and on the inside will feature a dual filter optimizing filtration. Now, the mesh and honeycomb aluminum filter will condense the oil, pushing it down into the catch can and eliminate all of that excess sludge.Now, this will hold up to 3 ounces of oil, which can be very easily emptied out after 3,000 miles or so just like an average oil change. Now, with J&L making it incredibly simple, all you have to do is remove the base from the top of the can by just unscrewing it, dumping out the excess oil, and threading it back on for very easy maintenance. Now, the base will also be textured to make sure that it's even that much easier even if your hands are oily.This will also include a rubber O-ring and heavy-duty hoses and specific fittings for leak prevention. Now, I would like to call out that this will not be CARB-approved, so if you do live in an emission restrictive state, I would just be aware of that. As far as price goes, this will be roughly $175, which is very average for an oil separator. Now, there are a number of different options in the category, however, this will be the highest capacity can while also being engine-specific.Now, mostly all other options will usually have a universal fitment, which will be great if you're looking for something a little bit bigger than this or don't mind doing the extra work. But if you're looking for a quality option that's specific to your V8, then this is gonna be right up your alley. Now, when it comes to install, this will be a pretty easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you about an hour to get the job done with some very basic hand tools. Now, one of our guys in the shop is gonna show you how to get this onto your truck step by step. So, that's enough for me. Let's go ahead and get into the install.Man: Tools used for this install, 3/8 drive ratchet, 3/8 drive extension, 13-millimeter deep socket, 1/4-inch drive ratchet, 1/4-inch extension, 5/16 socket, Phillip screwdriver, and PB B'laster. Hey, guys, I'm gonna show you how to install our J&L oil separator here on our 2014 RAM, so let's jump into the installation.So, first thing we're gonna do is we're gonna have to remove our upper air intake tube here. Now, to do that, we're gonna remove this connector right here. There is a 5/16 clamp here and a 5/16 clamp there. What I'm gonna do is take my ratchet, my 1/4-inch drive with my 5/16 socket, loosen that clamp, loosen the other clamp, and remove the tube. So, first thing I'm gonna do is push down on my clamp here, on my connector, I should say, and pop this off and get this out of the way.I'm gonna take my 5/16 socket and my 1/4-inch drive ratchet, I'm gonna fish it underneath here, get to this clamp right there, and loosen this hose clamp up. Then I'm gonna do the same one over here. There's another one underneath here. You wanna get under here. Loosen that one up. And once you have those two loose, you're gonna be able to pull up on the tube and remove it.So next, we're gonna remove our engine cover. You're just gonna wanna have to just pull up on it, kind of just sits in some tabs there. And you can just pull up on it, lift it out of the way, and we'll remove that. So next, we're gonna remove our PCV tube. Just gonna pull it out of that grommet there. I'm gonna turn it here, pull it out of this one up here.And we're gonna leave them hooked up because that's where our oil separator lines are going to go to. Now, we'll start installing our oil separator. So, the first thing on our installation is we're on the passenger side right here. We're gonna remove this bolt, pull it out, and we're gonna put our bracket on. So, I'm gonna take my 13-millimeter on my 3/8 drive ratchet. I'm gonna get in there like this and remove this bolt. This bolt's pretty long, so let me try to get in here and get it out.Got it out there. Now, we have it out. What we're going to do, slide it into our bracket. Put it back in place here, like that. Have our bracket go just like that, and we'll tighten up our bolt. I'm gonna try to get it as tight as I can with my hand, just like that. I'm gonna take my 13-millimeter again with my ratchet, tighten it up. So, now we have our bracket in place. Next, what we'll do is install our oil catch can. Now, we have our bracket in place, we're gonna take our oil catch can just like that. Line our holes up, take our Phillips head screws that are supplied in our kit and start 'em.And once I have 'em started, I'm gonna take my Phillip screwdriver, tighten them up. So next, now we got our can mounted, we're gonna take our two hoses that are supplied in the kit and what you're gonna do is use some kind of oil or penetrating fluid or something like that. And what we're going to do is we're gonna oil this end of the hose here and the inside of this hose, and we're gonna do the same on the other when we install that. That's just gonna make it slip in and fit better.So, we're going to do that, then we're gonna install our hoses, and then we'll put our engine back together. So, now I'm just gonna take some penetrating oil, spray a little bit on our hose here, spray a little bit on the inside of this one just so we make it so that we can lube everything up here to make it fit. Same as on the inside. And then what you're gonna wanna do is fish your hose down underneath here, behind your radiator hose here. And we're gonna install this into our plastic piece up here, just like that. Run it down underneath. We're gonna bring it over. And then this hose here, the longer one's gonna go on the outside. That is the one that has the inlet to the filter. So, we're gonna slide this one over top of this, just like that.We're gonna do the same on our secondary one here. We're gonna spray some lube inside here, make it easier for it to go on, same here. Spray some lube right here just a little bit and just rub it with my fingers. Once we do that, we're gonna fish it the same way down underneath here, and we're going to hook it up to our hose here at the other end of the PCV hose that we took off right there.We're gonna bring this one around and hook it up to the other end. And we'll hook our hose up to the opposite end over here on the other side of our catch can, and that hooks up our oil separator. Now we'll reinstall our cover and our air intake tube. So, now we'll reinstall our engine cover. Just gonna take it, line it up in the back through our hose here, slide it down. Just like that.Now, we'll reinstall our air intake tube. I'm gonna put it back on our airbox here just like that. Slide it over the top of that. Once I got that in, we'll hook up our electrical connector there, and now we'll tighten up our two clamps. So, I'm gonna take my 5/16 with my 1/4-inch drive ratchet, and I'm gonna tighten up our hose clamp right here. Next, we'll tighten up the one by the airbox. Again, I'm gonna take my 5/16 on my 1/4-inch drive ratchet, get on this clamp right here.       Description

      Superior Oil Separation. The positive crankcase ventilator or PCV valving system has been an important component in reducing blow-by gases for decades. However, it's not without its issues; the most notable one is the fact that vaporized oil can sometimes be inadvertently vented back into your intake. This oil can accumulate over time into engine sludge. The J&L 3.0 Black Oil Separator; Passenger Side is the component you need to trap this vaporized oil, preventing it from entering your engine where it can dilute gasoline, ultimately robbing your truck of performance.

      High-Tech Design. The J&L 3.0 Black Passenger Side Oil Separator uses an advanced filtration system consisting of a fine stainless steel mesh and an aluminum honeycomb filter. This system works by catching the oil vapors and condensing it into liquid. The liquid oil then accumulates in a 3-ounce catch can where it stays till it’s time to be emptied. The catch-can’s 3-ounce capacity is good for about 3,000 miles.

      Resilient Aluminum Build Quality. The J&L 3.0 Oil Separator features a billet aluminum construction for excellent strength, minus the weight. This oil separator can is CNC-milled for superior durability.
