      Video Review & Installation

Justin: You should be checking out the passenger-side J&L Oil Separator for your 2019 and/or 5.7 RAM at home if you're looking to help capture the oily vapors produced during combustion from being reintroduced back into your intake manifold and basically dirtying up your HEMI in the process. Now, construction is going to consist of that black billet aluminum canister, three-ounce capacity, and factory-style hoses and fittings, all for the high $100 price point. Install's gonna get a pretty soft one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter here, guys, thanks to the simple plug-and-play design. So figure no more than 10 or so minutes to get everything in place from start to finish, as we'll show you later in the video. Now, if you didn't know, your truck has what is called a PCV system, which is short for positive crankcase ventilation. Now, the purpose of this system is to help regulate and ultimately remove the fumes produced during combustion from the engine crankcase and to help alleviate the crankcase pressure that builds up, which if not removed could otherwise lead to oil leaks or seal damage. Now, because laws do mandate the PCV system be sealed, the engine has to use vacuum to draw these vapors out and plumb them back into the intake track, where they are to be burned off during the next combustion cycle. Now, while that all sounds good in theory, a lot of times these oily vapors tend to end up leaving residue in the intake manifold and even on the back side of your intake valves, which can lead to valve coking or deposits over the years. So how does the J&L help improve this situation? Well, what happens is, guys, that oily vapor is gonna pass through the PCV system, in this case, the passenger side, which does most of the heavy lifting, and into the J&L Separator. Now, at that point, the solids present in this vapor, basically little, tiny particles of oil and unburnt fuel or whatever else, get caught up in the aluminum honeycomb and stainless steel mesh material up top here while allowing them to drop down in the canister and, at that point, allowing that fresh, clean air to pass through the PCV system. Now, J&L does claim that maybe emptying this thing every 5,000 to 7,000 miles wouldn't be a bad idea. But, if you're like me and you've had one of these things on your truck, you might be surprised in just how quickly they do fill up. So I tend to check about every 1,000 to 2,000 miles, emptying them responsibly, of course, not pouring them down a drain or anything like that. But ultimately, guys, if you wanna hear from more RAM owners, HEMI owners about just how well this little guy does work, believe me, read up on some of the customer reviews here on the site, as it's always a great way to get some real-world feedback. Now, as far as your construction is concerned, well, as you can see, you're looking at a pretty simply black billet aluminum canister with a knurled bottom here to help you remove or unscrew everything, three-ounce capacity. And, just a quick heads up, if you're not a big fan of that black finish, well, J&L does also make this in a satin silver finish as well, certainly gonna pop a little bit more under the hood. Now, this truck-specific kit does include the factory-style hoses and fittings already cut to length, which will help make for a very simple plug-and-play install and, for the record, is backed by a one-year warranty in case of any issues. But now, let's segue into the installation here, guys. And again, very simple, very straightforward task in the driveway or garage. So one out of three wrenches is pretty much what you're looking at here. Site calls it 10 minutes, maybe a little bit more to get everything mounted up with the included bracket. But regardless, it's gonna be a walk in the park for most wrenchers out there. But to give you a better idea of just how things will go down on your 5.7 at home, feel free to check out our detailed walkthrough and tool breakdown now.Man: Tools required for this install include a ratchet, a Phillips head screwdriver, and a 10-millimeter socket. So our first step's gonna be to remove our engine cover. So we have a 10-millimeter bolt here and a 10-millimeter bolt here that we can use the 10-millimeter socket to remove. And now with both of our bolts removed, we can lift up on our engine cover. So this is the line we're gonna be removing for our oil separator. It runs from back of the engine up until underneath the throttle body. So pull back and disconnect this side. Now, we can disconnect our line on the front side right underneath the throttle body and remove it from the truck. So our next step is to mount our bracket to our oil separator. So we have two Phillips head screws that are included in our kit. So we can line up the bracket. The logo is gonna be facing the same way, and then we can start our hardware. Then we can tighten these down with the Phillips head screwdriver. So our next step's gonna be to remove this elbow fitting from our stock line. That will just slide right off, and then we can slide that onto our new line. Now, we're ready to get this installed on the truck. So now, we can slide our oil separator into place. The straight fitting is gonna go towards the front, and the elbow is gonna go in the back. And slide that on, and then we can get our front. Now, we can slide our front line into place right underneath that throttle body. Now, we can replace our engine cover. So we have these two pins on the back. That's gonna align with our two grommets on the back of the engine. So we can slide those in. So now, we can reinstall the bolt holding down our engine cover on the driver's side. And we'll do this about hand-tight just to hold everything into place while we put our other side in.So, like I said before, on this side, we're gonna run a bolt through our engine cover and then through the bracket on our oil separator and then down into this pin. So we can feed our bolt through, line up our bracket, and then get our bolt into place. And then we can come in with the 10-millimeter socket, tighten that down. And then our last step is just to come back to our driver's side and fully tighten down the other bolt on our engine cover. So that'll wrap up this review and install of the J&L 3.0 Oil Separator for the passenger side of your '19 to current RAM 1500. Thank you for watching. And remember for all things RAM, keep it right here at

Reduces Engine Sludge. Prevent engine sludge from impeding the power and performance of your RAM. Installing a J&L Version 3.0 Air/Oil Separator will prevent crankcase exhaust, better known as blow-by (an oily vapor), from re-circulated back through your PCV system and intake. If left unchecked, this oily vapor can solidify becoming engine sludge. This nasty sludge can coat the inside of your throttle body and intake manifold robbing you of power. A J&L 3.0 Separator is an ideal upgrade for all HEMI RAM's that want to reduce engine sludge in order to maintain power and performance.

Version 3.0. J&L improved on the designed of its old Oil Separator with the introduction of its new and improved Version 3.0. The first big change you will notice is that the Version 3.0 Separator has a larger 3-ounce capacity, that is almost double that of its previous model. Another important difference is the filter media. Older J&L Separators used a Ford Motorcraft pre-filter, but now J&L uses a 1/2-inch thick 1/16th-inch aluminum honeycomb filter with a mesh stainless steel screen to trap even more fine oil vapors than before to prevent them from gumming up your engine.

Superior Quality. This J&L Oil Separator Company Air/Oil Separator is proudly manufactured right here in the USA. J&L CNC-machines its Air/Oil Separator from a solid block of billet aluminum for superior strength. Designed with a rubber o-ring, this Separator will maintain a tight leak-free seal. The base features a knurled texture, so that it can easily be gripped for removal during routine oil changes. J&L then completes its Catch Can in a durable, black anodized finish for aggressive good looks and long-lasting corrosion resistance.

Easy Installation. J&L Oil Separator Company engineered its Separator to be installed in under 10 minutes with just basic hand tools. This kit comes complete and includes 2 PCV lines with stock-style quick-disconnect fittings that allow for an easy plug-and-play installation. All the necessary parts are included, with no cutting or extra modifications required.

Application. This J&L Oil Separator Company Version 3.0 Black Passenger Side Air/Oil Separator is designed for use on 2019-2021 RAM 1500 models equipped with the 5.7L HEMI V8 engine. Installs on the passenger side, same side as the PCV valve.

Technical Note. This J&L Air/Oil Separator is not CARB certified, therefore it is not legal for use in California or other states adopting California emission standards. Not intended for highway use.
