What's going on, guys? Travis from americantrucks.com and today, we're taking a look at one of the most rugged and, from what I've found so far, one of the widest possible running board/side steps that you can throw under a 2019 or newer Crew Cab RAM 1500 to make getting in and out of that cab a little bit easier, especially if you threw a lift on your truck or something like that. These are the RB20 Running Boards. Guys, these are a little bit more expensive than a lot of the other options that you see on the site. They fall in that $500 to $600 price point there, but you're definitely getting what you pay for. Like I said, this is one of the widest steps/running boards that you can throw on your truck. They measure about six and a half inches from the inside lip onto the edge here and that's gonna give you the most real estate for getting in and out of that cab. Any steps that are gonna cost less than these are typically gonna have a little bit less real estate for you to get your foot on there, to get in and out.So, these are one of the easiest and most convenient side steps to make getting in and out of the Cab for you. They're also one of the most rugged and one of the most well-built. Each step comes in at around 42 pounds. These things are pretty beefy, guys. They also use a double wall bracket underneath. Each part of the bracket's about eighth of an inch thick. So, multiply that by two, you got about quarter-inch of solid steel on each of the three mounting points. So, safe to say this thing's gonna take a lot more weight and abuse than any other running board currently available. And it also features a really unique black bed liner coating. Guys, I'll be honest. I'm a huge fan of bed liner coatings. They're perfect for this kind of application. Bed liner is actually a little bit more forgiving over time than something like a powder coat or a painted finish. Powder coat's really nice. Does a great job of sealing up the steel underneath, but powder coat is a baked-on finish, kind of like ceramic. It's incredibly hard.Sometimes they can get a little brittle and over the years they can even crack and peel off. That's not gonna be the case here. Bed liner's kind of malleable, has a really good adhesion to the metal underneath which, by the way, this is galvanized steel underneath too. That's actually really cool. It's a zinc coating. It's not just a basic carbon steel. So, it's safe to say these things are pretty much guaranteed for life to stand up to the elements. That's important if you live on the East Coast or the West Coast, you daily drive your truck, take it off road, whatever, see a lot of rain, snow, mud, things like that. This thing's pretty much gonna look brand new for years to come. So, you're definitely getting what you pay for on that end.And then last thing to consider is the install you think with a big beefy step like this, it'd be kind of difficult throwing it on there, but that's not the case at all. Mopar got some stuff right for 2019, decided to throw some studs underneath the rocker panel in the pinch team area. So, that means we're just throwing the brackets on zipping some nuts and washers in place, and then get the step aligned to end bolted down. It's incredibly straightforward. You could pretty much install these with one socket and one ratchet. So, for that reason, I'm gonna go ahead and give the install a very simple one out of three wrenches on the old difficulty meter. And honestly, guys, shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes to an hour to get both sides done. So, again, if you're looking for one of the most well-built and one of the widest running boards that you can throw on your 2019 RAM, go ahead and take a look at it a little bit more on this site.If you decide to go for these running boards over any of the other ones, you can come back in just a minute and I'm gonna show you guys all the tools that you need to get these things bolted on. And I'm gonna show you how to get it done step by step. All right, all we really need to install are side steps is a standard drive ratchet with a 13-millimeter deep socket. Now, if this is your first time crawling underneath your RAM, which it probably is, then the factory studs might have some paint on them for the nuts that we have to use for our brackets. So, you definitely want some break cleaner, maybe some paint thinner and a wire brush. Clean up those threads that we are not cross threading anything or ruining the studs themselves. And we are working with nylon locking nuts. So, an impact gun will make the job go a little bit quicker. If you do use an impact gun, I'd recommend a swivel socket because it's kind of a tight fit in there. All right. So, once you got your tools out, the first thing you need to do is grab one of those brackets. We're gonna throw it onto the studs here on our rocker panel and our pinch seam. Now, obviously these trucks are brand new guys. There's probably has some paint on these studs here. So, before you actually go to throw the hardware on, you wanna try and clean off some of the paint on the threads because these are pretty fine threads and you don't wanna cross thread anything. So, I recommend just taking some break cleaner, maybe a wire brush and just clean those up. But once you've done that, go ahead and grab the silver flat washers in the kit, put all those on the studs, followed by crush washers. And once you have all your crush washers seated, you wanna top everything off with the silver nuts in the kit and you'll need a 13-millimeter deep socket to tighten all this stuff down. I'd just like to get them hand threaded a little bit first, make sure they're not gonna cross thread with the paint on these studs. We'll do the same thing for the other two.Okay. Once you got all the brackets installed on one side, go ahead and do the same thing for the other side. Make sure that they're nice and tight. Then you can actually grab your step. The step installs very easily. There are some brackets in the kit that kind of sandwich the step to the brackets themselves. I'll show you that in a second. But, basically, we're just gonna throw the step on top of the three brackets, get it generally aligned where we want it to rest when we have passengers getting in and out of the cab, and then I'll show you how to tighten everything down. All right. Once you're happy with where the step is seated, you can go ahead and secure it to the brackets. To do that, we're using these U-shaped brackets. You're gonna slide that U-shaped bracket inside in between the step and the mounting bracket itself. You wanna line up the pre-threaded holes in the U-bracket with the holes that are in the bracket for the truck.Once you've done that, you're gonna be grabbing this black hardware provided in the kit, these black bolts with crush washers and flat washers. Go ahead and get those hand tightened, and then we'll zip those home. And you're gonna do the same thing for the other two mounting locations. You can get away with using these same 13-millimeter socket to tighten this stuff down as well. And that'll also wrap up my quick little review here of RB20 Running Board, featuring that really nice black bed liner coating, fitting your 2019 or newer Crew Cab RAM 1500. Be sure to check this thing out more on the site. And as always, for all things RAM, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
