Hey guys. Sara, with americantrucks.com, and today we have a review and install of the Carven Exhaust Competitor Series Direct Replacement Muffler with 5-inch Black Ceramic Tips. This fits your '09 through '18 5.7 liter RAM 1500 with a factory dual exhaust. This muffler replacement features TIG-welded 304 stainless steel piping and 5-inch black ceramic tips. I'm giving this exhaust a four out of five on the loudness meter. This is one of the most aggressive options that Carven does offer. However, it does have a small muffler on there so it's not quite a straight pipe, but it will give you that aftermarket growl that you are looking for. Coming in at around $500 this is definitely one of the most budget-friendly options for your RAM. Keep in mind Carven does sell the muffler replacement as well as the tips separately. So, if you're just looking for the sound or just looking for the appearance, you can cut costs a little bit there as well. I'm giving this install one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It can be done in approximately two hours, and I think the hardest part of this install is removing the stock muffler. This muffler replacement is direct fit and the tips are incredibly adjustable to get that perfect fit on your rear bumper. Tools required for this install are, a rubber hanger removal tool, an impact driver, a 15-millimeter socket, 13-millimeter socket, and some optional but helpful tools include a larger impact driver, a rubber mallet, and a pry bar. Once we have our truck on the lift or on the jack stands if you're working in your driveway, we're gonna remove our muffler by loosening this clamp at the front using our 16-millimeter socket. Now we're gonna loosen both the clamps at the back of the muffler that attach to the tailpipe. These can be a little bit difficult to get to. Using our exhaust hanger removal tool, we're gonna take off this hanger at the back of the muffler. The one at the front of the muffler is going to stay on. Now that we have all of our clamps loose and our hanger removed from the back of the muffler, we can pry back on our muffler so that it goes off in the reverse direction.Once we have our pipe off the front of the muffler, we can wiggle and loosen the two pipes at the back and then remove the whole muffler. To remove our tips, we're gonna loosen this clamp here. This is a 13-millimeter. So, we have that socket on our impact and we're gonna go ahead and take it off. Now that the exhaust is loose it may take a little finagling, but we will get it. Onto the final step of our uninstall which is to remove this last bolt holding on our last tip.Now that we have our stock exhaust removed from the truck, we can put it side by side with our Carven exhaust and really check out some of the similarities and differences. Right off the bat, we can see how large the stock muffler is and how small the Carven muffler is in comparison. This is going to translate to a lot more sound too. If that's not something you're looking for, you may wanna consider one of Carven's quieter options. Moving on to our tips, now that we have them side by side we can take a look at the stock versus the Carven tips. As you can see, these 5-inch black tips from Carven are completely opposite from your stock tips and these are gonna give your truck a completely different look as well as last quite a bit longer. Now let's grab our new exhaust and install it on our truck. If we're going to reuse the hangers for our new exhaust, we wanna remove them from the stock exhaust. You can also feel free to buy new ones if yours are worn out or if you just don't wanna reuse the old ones.Reinstall the exhaust hangers on your new exhaust. With our clamp on the front of our pipe and clocked in the position of our liking, let's put the exhaust up and slide it over the front pipe. You may want a pole jack or a jack stand just to hold it up so it makes positioning a little bit easier. Once we have our exhaust positioned, grab the exhaust hanger and slide it over the post on the truck. With the nook side of the clamp clocked down, slide them both over the ends of your pipes. Now we can slide the back portion of tailpipe into the new exhaust. We've taken it out of the hangar in the back. Sometimes if it doesn't line up perfectly, it may be easier to do it that way. Finally, we can install our tips. First, putting the clamp over the stock pipe oriented with the bolt side down, and then putting our tip over top. We're going to tighten this clamp down now, loosely so we can adjust it later, but this will not say on the truck unless we tighten it a little bit. Now, we can do the same thing on the other side, remembering to orient the bold side of our clamp down, and tighten it loosely because we will have to adjust the fit of these tips a little bit later. Now that our exhaust is in place on our truck, we're gonna go back and tighten down all of our clamps. Using our 15-millimeter socket, we're gonna tighten down the frontmost clamp. Using our 15-millimeter socket, we're gonna tighten down the two clamps at the back of our new muffler. With our tip properly positioned we can tighten down the clamps. All right. So that is gonna do it for the review and install of our Carven exhaust. Remember, for all things RAM, keep it at americantrucks.com.

Awesome deep sound, looks really sharp with the 5” tips. Super easy installation, but if you don’t want drone in the cab this isn’t for you. Personally I like the loud in cab rumble. Very satisfied with the product and definitely worth the extra money for the tips.Helpful (2)

This muffler is loud and the Drone is insane
I've had this muffler on my truck since August 2018. If you want something loud, then this is a 5 star product and I'll give it that rating because it does what it says it'll do, soundwise. My favorite part is how it sounds after it's warmed up and idling. My truck does feel more responsive as well. Here's where I don't like about it. Cold starts are obnoxious. Acceleration is obnoxious. The drone is insane. I don't believe anyone who says this isn't bad in the cab. I can certainly hear and feel the resonance inside the cab and I don't really it at all. Youtube is not doing justice for what this sounds like. I wish I started with the progressive model first. This is all subjective but pay attention to the other reviews and mine when we say it's louder than I thought it would be. As for the black tips...Well, they're sweet! My truck is white and with black tips, it just looks great! After running my truck with this exhaust for 2 months I'm considering other options. I sometimes wonder how my stock exhaust would sound with 5 inch tips. Maybe that's the sound I'd like. Maybe one of these days I'll put my factory exhaust on and maybe I'll leave it on. In conclusion, I'll probably sell this exhaust, keep the tips and go back to stock exhaust or try the progressive.Helpful (12)

Great Product. Sounds great during aggressive driving, no drone during highway driving. Sound is subdued when cruising. Highly recommend. Had a shop install because i couldnt get the truck high enough at home and good thing because the existing pipes were stuck and had to be heated to finally get them off.Helpful (7)

This product is top notch! The instal was straight forward and it really sounds amazing!! The black 5” tips look awesome!! I highly recommend this exhaust for those who want an aggressive sounding exhaust with no drone. With the windows up at cruising speed you can hear it, but it’s not annoying or over powering the radio or talking to your passenger.Helpful (17)
