So, if you own an '09 to '18 Ram 1500 and you're looking for one of the more affordable rear armor bumper upgrades, then you should be checking out the Barricade Extreme HD Rear Bumper with this nice textured finish. At around the $700 price point, this is a lot less expensive than some of the other options, and that's for a pretty simple reason. It's just a little bit more understated and minimalist in its design compared to those larger, bulkier, and more expensive bumpers. I'm actually a fan of this because, in my opinion, it kind of matches the overall contour and shape of the factory bumper and therefore, I think it flows with the overall design of the truck quite nicely. Now, in terms of build quality, I'm also happy to say that this bumper is pretty much on par with those more expensive ones. It's actually made out of a really nice 3-millimeter thick plate steel, which is about twice as thick as the factory bumper, and it's welded really nicely as one piece. On top of that, you're getting a really nice two-stage black powder coat finish, so it's safe to say that this bumper can stand up to debris, off-road stuff, and light strikes a lot better than the factory bumper and it will continue to look good for years to come. You also won't have to really worry about rust or corrosion because it is sealed up quite nicely. Besides all those goodies, you do get a couple of other features. I really like the auxiliary lighting ports in here. You've got some mesh inserts that you can remove quite easily and throw some light cubes in there if you wanted to. And if you're not a fan of climbing in and out of the bed because of the factory bumper, well, it's a lot easier to do so now because you have these nice perforated plates right here, certainly a nice touch, especially if you've got muddy boots or things are wet outside. Besides that, this bumper installs quite easily. It actually uses the factory bumper mounting locations, so it's a pretty simple bolt-on job. You can honestly get it done with a couple of sockets. However, it is a pretty heavy bumper obviously, so I'm going to give the install a pretty modest two out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter. So, again, if you want a really affordable and really sleek-looking rear armor bumper upgrade, go ahead and stick around. I'm gonna show you guys how to get this installed step by step. To install your new rear bumper, you will need the following tools, standard drive ratchet, a 15-millimeter socket, and an 18-millimeter socket. Optional, but helpful tools include an impact swivel and a cordless impact. So, removing your factory bumper is pretty simple. In case you haven't noticed, you've got to remove your license plate, go ahead and use a flat head screwdriver for that. Once you've done so, you're going to pull the two bolts down here using a 15-millimeter socket. All right, now that we've got those two bolts pulled, we're going to crawl underneath. I'm gonna show you guys how to pull some wiring harnesses and remove the factory bumper from the vehicle. So, we threw our truck up on the lift. Obviously, you can do this on the ground, but I wanted to show you guys a good shot of what you have to unplug in here. You have to unplug your wiring harness for your trailer hitch. You also have to unplug the wiring harness for both of the lights for your license plate. You don't need any tools for this, just pop them out.All right, to unplug the trailer hitch, there's a little tab you have to press. It's hard to see so you just have to feel for it, give it a good squeeze and it should remove itself. You're going to need that same 15-millimeter socket, and it is a bit of a squeeze, especially if you have that dual exhaust, so it's helpful to have an impact swivel if you're using a cordless impact like myself. Obviously, you're removing a piece of steel so you want to have a friend with you. You don't want this thing coming down and bonking you on the head. All right, so now that we have our factory bumper off our truck, you can see just how similar the new Barricade bumper is to the original in terms of shape, and personally, I'm actually a big fan of that. I've worked with a lot of armor bumpers, both front and rear, and a lot of times they kind of get crazy with their designs, right? They get pretty big and bulky and they look cool, but if you're someone who likes an understated look, you're more minimalist like myself, you'll appreciate just how much this really follows the original contours and body lines of the truck. It really makes it look like it belongs, I'm a huge fan of that. And that's where the similarities end. Obviously, you're getting that really cool two-stage black powder coat finish. You can see that this thing stands up a lot better to abuse. Our painted factory bumper has a couple of chips in it, so if you take your truck off-road, this will be a lot better suited for that. Now there's a couple of things we have to do to the new bumper before we throw it on. They're really easy steps here. I'm going to show you guys how to take the plug out for your trailer hitch, throw it on the new bumper. I'm also going to show you how to throw on the new license plate light as well as the little plastic brackets for the license plate. All right, so we've got to pull up this trailer hitch plug here. Really easy, all you gotta do is squeeze these metal tabs. Make sure you won't pinch yourself. All right, pretty easy. Go ahead and flip it upside down and pop it into place. All right, with your trailer hitch plug in place, you can go ahead and pop in both of the tabs for your license plate. All right, now we have our bumper ready for install. It might seem a little bit difficult trying to get the bumper in place and lining up these brackets and all the bolts and everything, but it's actually really easy and you can even do it by yourself as long as you're careful. What you want to do is lift the bumper up, either by hand or with a jack stand, go ahead and throw it on top of this plate right here. A good frame of reference is to line up the plastic cover we just threw on a moment ago with this little cutout right here for the trailer hitch itself. Once your bumper is supported on this plate right here, you can line up the mounting points themselves with the little nibs right here on the frame rails where you're actually going to tighten all your hardware down. The bumper should stay in place. Again, you want to make sure you have this thing supported so it's not going to fall off, and you can crawl underneath, you can slide the plates in between there and you can tighten down the bolts as well. All right, so we got the hardest part out of the way and that's actually getting the bumper installed, probably a lot easier than you might've thought. Well, there's really one more small step that we have to do and that's snugging up the bumper so we can close that gap there. Have a friend hold it in place for you. You can use a pole jack like I got here. At any rate, go ahead and make sure it's nice and snug, then you can tighten everything down. You'll need an 18-millimeter socket for these new bolts. All right, so once you got your bumper tightened down, that pretty much wraps up the install of the bumper itself. You want to make sure you plug in your trailer plug, obviously, and it's pretty easy to splice in this new light to the existing wiring harness for your license plate. Other than that, that should wrap up the install in general. That also wraps up my review of the Barricade Extreme HD Rear Bumper, fitting your own '09 to '18 Ram 1500.
