Show Truck and Trail Truck Ram Interior Upgrades

Show Truck and Trail Truck Ram Interior Upgrades

The Caesar salad, a favorite of many, is tastefully simple and found at most restaurants. A Cobb salad, with upwards of 7 ingredients, is more exotic and is harder to come by – it really is more of a specialty item. Regardless, both salads start with the same base ingredient – romaine lettuce – and are transformed into their own respective identity thereafter. If a Ram pickup were a salad, I would consider a show truck to be a cobb (full of flash and flair) and a trail truck to be a Caesar (hearty and robust). Below are some suggestions on how to dress the interior of your Ram pickup from the perspective of a show truck and a trail truck.

Depending on the trim level of your Ram, you might not have all of the amenities you'd want in your interior. Adding some extra personalization in a space you spend a lot of time in will make work that much easier.

Upholstery Options

Both a trail guy and a show guy will want to keep their interior in tip-top condition. For the former, their interior is likely subject to a lot more wear, tear, stains, and spills due to the unruly terrain they will be traveling over. In this case, a good set of seat covers can be a trail-going Ram’s best line of defense against soiling the interior, and two specific materials come to mind.

Neoprene seat covers are a great choice for trail Rams because they have excellent water-resistant characteristics. They tend to repel water and bead it off as opposed to absorbing it like a conventional fabric cover, and when in an off-road environment there is likely to be lots of moisture and dirt. Their flexible polyester weave gives an exceptionally tight fit over the seats such that the covers won’t bunch up underneath you.

A second solid option for trail going Ram owners would be a classic saddle blanket cover. Using the same dense material that is used to weave equestrian saddle blankets, this type of cover will offer heavy duty protection from physical wear (frequently entering and exiting the truck) and is also moisture resistant.

For show going Rams, it is tough to beat the appearance of a really clean OEM interior. Thus upholstery shampoo and cleaner are your best friend in order to keep the interior of your Ram looking pristine. In the event that you really want some extra upholstery protection, saddle blanket or tweed material covers would make a good option. Both provide great coverage against physical wear and have a similar texture to factory cloth materials. Furthermore, they are less elastic than other options which make them ideal for the drive over to the show where they can be quickly removed once parked.

Floor Mats and Floor Liners

Where some salads need a light vinaigrette, others work best with a heavy dop of mayo. For off-road going Rams, the hands down choice is a raised-edge floor liner. Ram floor liners are measured in 3D using lasers and are then molded and precisely cut to that exact blueprint. The result is a tray-like liner that contours every area of the floor and rises up to the bottom of the door sill. Deep sculpted channels trap dirt and debris and the raised perimeter prevents any of it from spilling over the sides onto the carpet below. Their appearance is a little bulky but the level of coverage these 3D floor liners provide is second to none and thus is the perfect floor protection solution for Rams that play in the mud.

While the level of coverage a floor liner provides is great for any Ram, show trucks may wish for a more streamlined and plush option. The solution here is a conventional carpet mat that matches the interior color. Carpet mats have a thick, rich, and plush appearance that really integrates with the factory interior. These dense mats can be further accentuated with the Ram logo or other custom embroidery and definitely qualify as a show truck classic. A rubber backing, in addition to their hefty construction, keeps these mats from sliding around (retention inserts are also available if your Ram has the appropriate hooks).

Interior Bling or Functionality

Looking at some other interior accessories, another easy way to boost the interior flavor of a show truck and help set it apart is via a custom set of aluminum door sills. Replacing the hard plastic lower door inserts, an aluminum version brings chic style to the interior in a subtle way. On top of the nice metal finish, many aluminum door sill plates incorporate a Ram logo or lettering that illuminates with the dome light or when the door is opened. Installation for this type of interior accessory is straightforward as the aluminum sill snaps into place, and the wiring is accomplished via a splice-in connector.

Outdoorsy type Ram owners might add some interior bling via under seat storage compartments. Really not flashy at all, these storage containers are specially molded to fit right under the rear seat of crew cab and quad cab Ram models. They provide a handy place to store essential trail gear without it being exposed to the weather, taking up seat space or sliding around in the back. Furthermore, some containers even feature a gun rack that is approved as a gun storage compartment in most US states.

LED Interior Lighting

Last but not least, there is one last interior upgrade that would suit both show goers and bug smashers alike – LED lighting. Replacing the factory interior light bulbs with LED variants is super easy to do, inexpensive and pays dividends in terms of light output and clarity. The glove box (T10 wedge), map light (T10 wedge), courtesy light and dome light (44 mm festoon) are some of the places that can benefit from an LED swap. White LEDs are the obvious choice in terms of the best illumination, other colors such as red, blue and yellow are also available if you want to toss things up and change the atmosphere inside the cabin.
