Jake: Jake here for AmericanTrucks, and today, I'm taking a look at these LED daytime running light headlights with amber corner lights, smoked housings, and clear lenses, fitting 2014 and 2015 Silverado 1500s. If you're looking for a subtle but meaningful update to your Silverado's looks, these headlights might just be the ticket. Featuring some cool LED accents and OEM+ style, these are going to change up the look of your truck's front end without going overboard on lighting, style, or on price. As I like to say, it's really easy to go nuts on style and extra stuff when it comes to aftermarket headlights, but sometimes you just want to keep it a little more subdued. And these do exactly that. They stick more to an OEM type of style, albeit with a few key differences. Now, stylistically, these are going to be the same type of layout as your factory headlights, with the split high and low beams, and they even keep the chrome surrounds on the outside. Where these differ, however, lies inside. Now, between these high and low beams, you're going to find a set of LED daytime running lights. This is just a strip of white LEDs in the center here that casts a nice glow out whenever the truck is on, again, functioning as your daytime running lights. It is more of a subtle upgrade but one that will still bring a noticeably different look to the front end for those who care to watch for it. Inside, though, is perhaps the biggest difference, as these keep the amber corner lights and clear lenses like your stock lights, but the inner housings are this nice smoked color. So it gives these more of a stealthy and kind of interesting look overall. Now, a benefit to the smoke housing versus a smoked lens is that your lighting output is going to remain the same as your stock units, but you're still going to get that cool, more sinister appearance. Now, speaking of lighting output, these are going to utilize the same H1 and 9005 bulbs for your low and high beams, respectively. And that means a couple of things.First, light output is going to be the same as your stock lights, but that also means that running and replacement costs are going to stay low as these bulbs are inexpensive and they're readily available. So should you need to replace one along the way somewhere, it's going to be easy to do and it's not going to hurt your wallet. Not having LEDs or projectors or any kind of fancy bulbs in this also keeps the overall buy-in price low, but we'll talk more about that in a moment. Now, these are also DOT and SAE approved, making them fully street-legal, which means they've got integrated adjusters on the back. Now, the outer housings here are made from ABS plastic, and you've got polycarbonate clear lenses over top. So these are strong, they're lightweight, and they're made very similarly to your factory headlights. Now, they also come with all the bulbs included and ready to go, so you don't even need to transfer anything. You've got them all set up right here. Now these do, for the most part, come pre-wired. However, there is power and ground that you're gonna need to run for those daytime running lights we were talking about earlier, but we'll talk more about that in a moment. Overall though, installation is a cinch, and like I mentioned earlier, because these are DOT and SAE approved, you've got these integrated adjusters at the top too, so you can get them aimed properly and make sure that they are in full compliance and street legal.Coming in at about $350, these are actually pretty inexpensive when it comes to headlights for this gen of truck. Now, while these don't have all the fancy features or all the LED lights, they're not gonna carry the cost of those either. So if you're not trying to deviate too much from the stock look but still wanna get something that's a little different, while also making sure that your budget stays intact, these are definitely gonna get the job done for you.Installation is going to get a two out of three on our difficulty meter. It should take you about two hours to complete the job. Now, like I was talking about a few moments ago, these are pretty much a plug-and-play install. They're going to bolt right in place your factory headlights, and they're just going to plug right in to your main harness here. However, you are going to have to run power and ground for the daytime running lights to get them working. You're going to have to do that for both sides, but everything is set right here for you. You just got to run, again, power and ground and get them wired in. Hence, that two out of three and that extra little bit of time that we're building in for you. So with that, let's go ahead and jump on out to the shop where we'll walk you through the entire process.Man 1: Tools required for this install include a ratchet, a clip remover tool, wire strippers and crimpers, a test light, Phillips head screwdriver, 10-millimeter ratcheting wrench, an extension, 10-millimeter socket, some T-taps, male spades, and a couple of microfiber towels. What's up, guys? Today, we're installing a set of headlights on our Silverado. First, we're gonna watch a quick uninstall video showing you how to remove your factory headlights, and then I'll meet you right back here for the install.Man 2: All right. First step here, we have to uninstall our factory headlights. To do that, pop your hood, we're gonna remove the radiator shroud. Now, there's a bunch of these plastic black push pin clips here. What you're gonna do is take a panel removal tool, I'm gonna start with this guy here, you're just gonna pry up on the middle section. Once that's up, you don't necessarily need to take it off in two pieces, but once that's up, you can pull it off altogether just like that. Do that for each one along the entire shroud. Now that all those clips are off, let's just lift up on the shroud and set it aside.Next up, we have to head over to the wheel well to remove this one Phillips head screw. Now, the reason we're doing that is because this entire trim piece that goes along all underneath the headlights and grille has to come off. So grab a Phillips head, we're just gonna take this one screw off in each wheel well. So once you have one taken care of, repeat on the other side. Once that's off, you can start cracking that guy loose. All right. Next step here, just pull that trim piece all the way off and set it aside. All right. Next up, let's get our grille out of the way. Now, there's four 10-millimeter bolts at the top, so I'm switching over to an impact gun and a deep socket. So let's get those off.All right. Now, on the bottom left and bottom right corners, you're gonna find another 10-millimeter for the grille. I'm switching over to an extension on my 10-mil. All right. Same thing on the other side. All right. So now, we can just pull the grille off in one piece. All right. Next step, let's unbolt our headlight. Now, I'm working on our passenger side here. There's two 10-millimeter bolts up top we're gonna start with. All right. Next up, behind where our grille was here, there's one more bolt at the bottom down there. All right. We have one more down here in the corner, right behind where the trim was underneath the headlight. I'm gonna use a 10-millimeter ratcheting wrench for this guy just because it's at a tough angle. All right. So now, we can just pull that straight back, and you just pinch and disconnect the harness, just like that. Set your factory light aside.Man 1: Now, before we install our new headlights onto the truck, we need to swap over our turn signal bulbs from our stock one to our aftermarket. We also have to situate our wiring, which we'll do with T-taps and male spades. Now, we can come to our bulb sockets on our stock headlight and twist to the left to unlock it, remove our bulb, and then slide it into our new headlight. Turn it to the right to lock it into place.Next, we can get our wiring sorted. The way we're gonna be doing this is with a male spade connector and a T-tap. The male spade is gonna go on the end of our wire here. Now, the T-tap is gonna be going on the body harness side. This metal fork is gonna wrap around the wire, and then you'll close this up with a pair of pliers. It'll cut into the wire to make that connection. And then we'll take our male spade and slide it into the other side. So now, we'll grab a pair of wire strippers to strip back some lead on our two wires. And then we can twist that lead up and slide our connector on. And then take wire crimpers, crimp that down, and then do the same thing for our other wire. And now, we can repeat that same process for our other headlight. So now, we're ready to install our T-taps. First, we need to figure out which wire controls our daytime running lights. So to do that, I have a test light. I've got the one side hooked up to a ground. I've got the daytime running lights turned on inside the truck. And now, we can take our test light and probe our connector. Whichever one lights up our test light is gonna be our DRL light. So we have our light there, which is this gray wire. Now, we already have a T-tap installed on our wire from a previous install. However, since you'd be doing this for the first time, you can just follow the steps I laid out on the table. Now, to find your ground, you would just hook up the opposite end of your test light to the positive battery terminal and then probe inside the connector until you get the light. In our case, this is gonna be this thick black wire, which we already have our T-tap installed onto.So now, we're ready to make our connections. We have our red wire going to our gray wire and then our black wire going to our black wire. And then we'll get our connector, and then we'll just tuck all of our wires and get our headlight into place. And now, we can reinstall our two bolts up top as well as our one bolt on the inside. And then we'll grab our 10-millimeter socket and tighten these down. And now, we can come down to our outside corner of the headlight and reinstall our final bolt. And then we'll grab a 10-millimeter ratcheting wrench to tighten that down. And now we can repeat that same process on the other side.Next, we can line up and reinstall our grille. Next, we can reinstall our four upper grille bolts. Then we'll take our 10-millimeter socket to tighten these down.Next, we can reinstall our four lower grille bolts. Now, these are gonna be impossible to see on camera, but everywhere that we have one of these rectangular cutouts at the bottom, there's a U-clip deep in there. So I've got an extension and a 10-millimeter socket to get my bolts started, and I'll grab a ratchet, put it on the other end to tighten those down.Next, we can line up our tabs and reinstall our lower trim. Now, we can come back to our wheel well. Take a Phillips head screwdriver to reinstall our screw. And then we'll do that same thing on the other side. Now, the last thing we need to do is reinstall our radiator cover and all of our push clips. We have these two tabs that are going into these two slots first, and then we'll just lay that down.So that'll wrap up this review and install of the LED DRL headlights with amber corner lights, smoked housing, and clear lens for your 2014 to '15 Silverado 1500. Thank you for watching. And for all things Silverado, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
