2019 Ram 2500

The 2019 Ram 2500 has a 98.5% high-strength steel frame and aluminum body panels, both of which increase capability while still reducing weight. It also gets minor exterior and tech updates to level with heavy-duty Fords and Chevys. For 2019, there are now only two engine choices. The standard motor is a 6.4-liter V8 with 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The V8 gets an eight-speed automatic gearbox in either an RWD or four-wheel drivetrain. The other engine is a supremely torquey 6.7-liter inline six-cylinder diesel with 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. An upscale, high-output of this Cummins is also offered, which cranks out a massive 1000 lb-ft of torque, and is mated to a reinforced 6-speed AISIN automatic transmission. Available safety features for the 2019 Ram 1500 include blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and many more.

Anchors Away!

Power is nothing without control, and stopping on a quickly and reliably is equally essential as having tons of power and torque. The factory brakes in your Ram truck are suitable for everyday hauling. But the Ram 2500 is built for heavy-duty work and will benefit significantly with stronger brakes. Installing a set of vented, cross-drilled brake rotors will not only offer more potent stopping power, but the design helps cool the brakes and offers better heat dissipation when towing gigantic trailers or carrying heavy loads. Most aftermarket cast iron brakes also feature a zinc-coated finish to resist corrosion, helping to keep them true and free of unnecessary noise. In addition, combining new brake discs with a set of new carbon-fiber ceramic brake pads will provide a consistent braking feel that reliably resist fade under heavy braking action. While not as long lasting as a metallic pad, synthetic blend performance brake pads are designed to bite more aggressively and reduce total braking distance required.

Unleash the Beast

The 2019 Ram 2500 is nothing short of a beast across all trim models. You can give your beast more bite and a louder roar with a custom exhaust system. There are two main types of aftermarket exhausts for a 2019 Ram three-quarter ton truck:

  1. axle-back
  2. cat-back

Axle-back exhaust kits are the less expensive of the two, but they only replace the mufflers and tips. High flow mufflers use a specially engineered chambers to shape and tune the exhaust note as the gas passes through. They are an economical way to get more bass and volume out of the exhaust. Cat-back exhaust systems will replace everything behind the catalytic converter, including the mid-pipe (X-pipe, H-pipe, or Y-pipe), muffler, and tailpipes. These complete systems usually up the diameter of the pipe, which will improve flow capacity and create a deeper exhaust note. The amount of resonators and the muffler type (baffled or straight through) will dictate just how powerful the sound will be. Given the complete nature of a cat-back system, owners can also expect a small bump in horsepower and torque alongside the revitalized exhaust note.

Shock and Awe

If you do a lot of off-roading or heavy towing in your 2019 Ram 1500, upgrading the suspension is a surefire way to improve the go-anywhere looks and all-conquering abilities of your rig. The most basic suspension upgrades are lift kits and new shock absorbers. Mild to moderate lift kits that raise your truck from one to two inches typically consist of spacers to improve the ground clearance. However, higher lift kits could come with nifty suspension upgrades. Most four to eight-inch lift kits will come with new coil springs, shock absorbers, relocation brackets, extended bump stops, upgraded radius arms, sway bar links, and more to keep your rig’s suspension geometry in check. But if heavy towing is your truck’s forte, installing coilover suspension will offer better stability and control with adjustable ride height capabilities.
